Christmas came twice for me. This video was exactly what I was looking for. I’m changing out my drum brakes tomorrow in my 2014 Nissan Sentra and with the help of your video I’ll be fine. Well appreciated and well explained.
Niceee and happy new year
@@RBTheMechanicno se mucho inglés pero una imagen dice más que mil palabras muy útil tus instrucciones directo al grano sin tanto bla bla

Dude If I could shake your damn hand through youtube I would. I was struggling for 4 fucking days looking up other tutorials on drums and they were nothing like the Nissan Sentras. Thank god for you sir, you deserve a certification. Certified Hood Classic right here.
Thank bro!! Good comment is much appreciated and this video will defiantly help millions!!!
I love your video. You hit the number 1 problem amateurs have, which is once you take the part out, you forget how it goes when you put it back. I like how you explain to leave everything intact on the floor to check as you match. Wish I'd watched your video before I let my kid work on my brakes. After a couple years I heard banging and thought it was a shock. Disassembled the brakes and the adjuster was smashed sitting at the bottom of the drum along with the springs. Thank God I didn't ignore it and will be checking your video as I reassemble to make sure I do it right. Keep it up man!
Oh darn I seen some mechanic shop do that and then customer bring car to me. It’s experience that’s how you learn!!!
@@RBTheMechanic 👍
I build gaming computers for a living and have no mechanic experience and just did this in under 2 hours on my wife's 2014 nissan sentra. Very detailed instructions and straight to the point. You just earned a new sub.
Thank you.
Thank you!! Good job!!!
Saved me Thousands of dollars!! I greatly appreciate this video. Peace and blessings
Glad video helped u!!
Great video. I’m so glad you posted this video. I was just replacing my drums. My 04 Nissan Frontier 2.4 liter has the reverse hook springs. My vehicle calls for 2 different size shoes. Mine shoes were BB 574. My Emergency brake cable also broke on the passenger side. The cable rubbed on my gas tank so much, it broke off at drum. Easy replacement on this one. Brake cable BB BC661457. Thanks for video again. I subscribed for sure.
Nice 👍 I’m glad this video helped u out !!! I don’t like drum brakes tho
That was a GREAT video. You are my kind of mechanic. Clear, complete, easy to follow, and with a bada bing, bada boom. Thanks.
Yup thank you!!!
Hey love this video tutorial. The only problem I have with it is I’ve only had maybe once in my life where a drum came off like that. I usually have to use a weighted hammer to get the drum off.
Yup some times it’s nightmare
Thank you for the time you took to explain how to change brakes.
No problem
Thank you for this video. I have a 2019 Nissan Sentra and the idiots at Nissan don't make a haynes manual for this car. This video was a big help. Every other video showed either rear disc brakes or a model that you could take out the spindle. I'm leaving you a tip on Paypal. I hope you have a great Christmas.
Thank you bro!! Got the tip!! Glad video helped you!!
This video is awesome, Thank You Sir you are a life saver, just replaced mine today.
Good job
thank you I follow all your tips super easy this time. 😊

Great video man i'm gonna try by my self, thanks a lot for sharing...

A pair of pliers works best for the retainers just grab them on the top side of the clip and push in and up.
Yeah I got some special tools I don’t even use old school is the real way lol
Good vídeo You help a Lot many people thank you god bless You..
Awesome explanation and tips.
THANK YOU!
Yup thank you
Thanks for help me

Excellent video. Very friendly and informative 👌 thanks very much appreciated
Thank you!! Future videos going to be more detailed
@@RBTheMechanic would this apply to a 2013 nissan sentra as well?
@@dannyzamudio1252 same thing if u got drums might be diffrent part numbers
@@RBTheMechanic thank u🙏
Just wanna add this in here. Instead of worrying about the springs first you should put on the pads, add your retainer clips, and then use a flat head to put on your springs. Would've made this 10000 times easier
Yeah bro everyone has their ways!!
Thank You for another great video and saving me ton of money,baramim-baraboom :)
Yup no problem

Awesome video. Gained a new follower today I needed this one!
Thank you!!
Honestly even a tech I hate and struggle with brake shoes. I work at a kia dealership so don't see those very often other than working on NON- KIA vehicles.
Yeah I got use to it since I deal with all types of cars I try to avoid them but loyal customers don’t take no for an answer I also have issue with them making banging noise
Great job 👏 👍 👌
Pretty good video thanks helps alot

Creo que perdí mucho tiempo viendo este video por un principiante

Yup glad video was help

Hi, Congratulations on this excellent video. this is was exactly the video I was looking for. I helped me to replace the shoes on my Nissan Sentra 2018.
I have a question: How do you adjust the adjuster after the drum is already installed? I could not find any hole in the back to stick a tool to adjust it.
Also, when I adjusted the drum adjusters, I may have adjusted them too much. I adjusted them with the drums out and it was tight to slide the drum in. I had to use force to slide them in (hand force, not tools). After the drum was in I could not spin the drum with my hand. it was tight. But with the wheels mounted, I can spin the wheel but I have to use a bit force. Is this Ok or should I loosen up the adjuster a bit? Do you think it loosen up once the new shoes adapt to the grooves in the drum. (BTW. I put new shoes but used the same drum because it was in good shape).
Thanks in advance for your help.
Frank
U can’t adjust with drum on just do small steps with drum off on and off
When you put on drum what do you adjust to?
What u mean? U adjust click by click and check the play
Why drums? WHY?
I ask the same question and say this is the last set of drum breaks im doing. Then the next one comes along and i repeat the prosess
They are cheaper and lighter at the cost of not being able to handle high heat and heavy spirited driving.
Seriously!!! I just agreed to go do them for free for my stepmother and after looking up parts I found out it's drums in the rear smh in 2015 people were still putting this garbage on cars
Right
Thank You for the help, a huge help ! Question, do these rear brakes self adjust when in reverse ? Or must they be done manually from time to time ? With no access hole in rear of backing plate is poor design !
I do recommend every 15k miles to clean and adjust
@@RBTheMechanic Thank You RB !....
They are self adjusting.
Is it mandatory to adjust adjuster against drum. Does it not self adjust?
But it’s need cleaning and adjusting
And when u install it brand new u have to do the initial adjustment setting
Thank you, I did it.
Good job!!
Nice video brother
How about using the actual tool that takes those off it's $5 at harbor freight makes life so much
U can do that
So those are break pads??? 🤔 is not like the front ones...
They r called brake shoes since its drums
Thank you for this video
No problem bro!
I put the pads on backwards and it didn’t go well
Oh darn
Do they self adjust when you go to drive it?
No u have to do the final adjustment watch the video till end I will see
Right at the 14:20 mark you see that little rust cloud puffed out . Would hate to be breathing that in .
Yup mask up!!
Dude I am really stumped right now I can't for the life of me remember how to get the drum separated from the hub.... I know there is a set screw or something like that I just can't remember where it is at and I'm having trouble finding it online.
Some of these Nissans have center hub bolt u have to remove the cup
Are these the same for 2018 Nissan s Sentra ?
Yes if u got drum brakes in rear it’s mostly same part number will change tho setup will be very much alike
Great video 👍 can you tell me what type of cleaner to get and grease??
I used parts brake cleaner and grease u can use regular any type of brake grease
He must pay for his own brake cleaner...
Yeah
That was Great, thank you
Sometimes it makes me uncomfortable and scary to watch a mechanic who does not know what he is doing or does not do the job properly. Normally a good mechanic always keeps track of the direction, placement, side of the parts that he takes off. Fumbling later will have a chance to a wrong assembly and with cars, especially with brakes and stuff, could cost the driver dearly.
Yup beat the be organized and keep things in order u can be super skilled and make a silly mistake
Ba Da Bing! Ba Da Boom!

RB, a question Please, a friend & fellow viewer recently installed new rear brake shoes on his Sentra. Before doing so his parking / E-brake worked just fine. After installation it barely engages. He ordered / installed new cable set ($450 !) but has same issue. My first thought is cable is not correctly installed into backing plate, Kyle says their both seated in correctly. Any suggestions as to what to check or do ? Thank You So Much ! Dave, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Somthing like this I would need to physically see it how ever he might have to adjust the ebrake
Did he put on new drums, too? New drums have an oil protectant on the metal that needs to be cleaned off before installation. Oil is slick. It could be that his shoes can't get a grip.
@@joshuaewalker yup u need to clean the drums just like rotors they have preotection oil
Can you change shoes to break pads if you change caliper?
Yes that can be done but it is big process the rear end need to be changed
BRAKE
how many miles were on this car? I remember when rear drums were done when the car had 100k miles and up on it.
Not sure but it had prolly over 80k usually rear drum brake last good 100k they need clean and adjust often
How much does a break job like this cost?
Done correct and solid job with good parts $290-330 read both wheels
@@RBTheMechanic thanks for replying so quickly! It was a great video, thanks for the cost info that way we know what is a good price👍 you got a new subscriber!
@@williec4190 no problem always here to help!!
Wer can I order these brakes
From local part store would be best Autozone or pep boys
Gret video, you didn't miss anything. Wish I put the big spring on the top on the way you did. Lots of swear words with that one. I also hate the adjuster nissan used.
Curious question. I have the same car and did this about 3 months ago. Ever since my handbrake has been trash. I adjusted it as far as it can go to try and get it to hold the car, but still nothing. It barely provides resistance. I have to park in gear.
I took the drum off and had my fiancee pull the handbrake and was surprised by how little everything moved.
I'm thinking stretched cables, but it worked just fine before I changed the shoes which were almost down to the metal.
P.s. the brakes themselves are tight and work very well. It's just the handbrake.
Yeah I hate doing drum brakes one time I got hit by the retainer in the eye it just bounced off
@@RBTheMechanic yup me too. Safety glasses from now on. Which sucks because I wear regular glasses👓 lol. I might convert to rear discs. The 16-19s that I've looked at all seem to be rear disc's. Should be a fun project
It is Dire the E brake cable is reset into its guide slot in backing plate. I'd bet yours isn't. It can come out of place when removing cable from shoe. You must pull hard on wire spring to seat it in place.
@@DavidDavid-ch4zh Hi David. I know what you mean. It actually is set in there on both sides. I did my front brakes just yesterday funny enough so I did a cleanup around back as I bled the system as well.
I went with napa shoes and hardware (which I found was looser than the old stock springs) when I did the rear brakes last year. I'm going to order oem nissan shoes/ hardware and new drums too and see if that makes a difference.
The adjustment on the handbrake itself is as tight as I can get it.
@@kyleb9 Hello Kyle ! A pleasure to talk with you ! Oh those rears & springs are a nightmare ! I still don't understand your E-brake issue if wire spring is properly seated in the backing plate, especially if it worked fine before the brake job ? It's tricky to adjust those damn things too. I had to readjust tighter to get my hand brake to function properly. The front calipers are a much easier job. Best of luck Kyle to You and Yours ! Dave D. Pittsburgh, Pa. area
good but not confident it is look like this is his first time do the rear brake
I did so many of those past in the years
What in the world are doing brother. Thats not the right way broooo
Ok
I accidently pushed the cylinder all the way through
Uh ohh now u gonna have to do bleeding
@@RBTheMechanic Dang
I bleed it. Once you do one side the other side is significantly easier to do
@@warhammer48 yup
Why would a 2000 anything have drumm brakes 😪
They still got them on many cars
🙏🏽👌🏽
Let my mechanic do hahaha yeah sure for six hundred dollars. No thanks.
Lol yeah and job will go wrong do it urself and double triple check ur work
@@RBTheMechanic the first time I did my own front disc brakes it cost me a grand total of like sixty dollars. And I had paid like $400 to the mechanic. I don't think theres really a word to describe that feeling. There isn't a word to describe what it feels like to be freed from constant fear, and horrifically enraged at the same time. If anyone has a good word for it, please let me know.
Additionally, the last time I had my brakes professionally done, I happened to see the store receipt for the parts on his countertop. He had a mechanic discount from the parts shop, and he doubled that cost, and then he charged me $300 for labor. When I learned what pads and rotors cost, and how easy it is to do, I cried. I'm not even kidding. Never again. This weekend Im doing front disc and rear drum on both of our cars and mounting four new tires on my husband's car. I will never be afraid to do anything ever again.
@@FatNebraskaMom sorry to hear that!! But it’s best done urself. Now days they charge lot and rush the job and customer has to pay for ba ebrake job
@@RBTheMechanic I was in an Uner the other day after my husbands Hyundai finally died. This poor kid who was driving told me that he paid $600 to get his brakes done, then they completely screwed it up, would not redo it, and he paid another $600 for someone else to do it. I wrote down RockAuto for him and explained how easy it is to do all of it. He asked me how I got started doing my own stuff, and I said, "I got angry, dude."
I'm going to come off of RUclips because of commercials
Sorry
