- Project KULEANA was created by three Native Hawaiian men who share the perspective that KULEANA is what makes music Hawaiian. A KULEANA to the ‘āina (land) and our strong ancestral connection to it. Project KULEANA aspires to increase the innate value of Hawaiian music and the performance of it to inspire people to reflect on one’s own KULEANA. Project KULEANA seeks to encourage people to re-discover, re-connect and re-instill what Hawaiian music and performers of Hawaiian music represent. With support from the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and ʻŌiwi TV, Project Kuleana Producers and Makauila, Inc. are proud to have produced Project Kuleana 2. Featuring Ka Naʻi ʻAupuni and Where Are The Brothers.
I moved to Hawaii in 1993 because the Queens Medical Center brought me here to work in the Dept of Radiation Oncology and I never expected to fall in love with Hawaii the way I have. I do not speak/understand the Hawaiian language but being someone that speaks 4 languages, when I hear Hawaiian Music I feel the power and the energy behind it. These Project KULEANA are amazing and they go beyond of the beauty of the Hawaiian Culture and the Hawaiian language. I plan to study Hawaiian. I already have taken courses at UH on Hawaiian culture and find them amazing. We are lucky to live in Hawaii for sure. On July 3, 2023, it will be 30 yrs that I came to these amazing islands, the Islands of Aloha
It is beautiful whenever I hear when a mālihini becomes a kamaʻāina because they love it here. You are just the kind of transplants we love/want. And it is so fitting that you are employed at the Queens Medical Center! If you are here on Oahu, go to Hānaiakamalamalama (Queen Emmaʻs Summer Palace) if you havenʻt already. Kanaʻiaupuni was another name for King Kamehameha I, who Queen Emma was a relative. Kanaʻiaupuni is also my middle name. 😛
Im a Native Hawaiian born&raised, applying for residency this year with aspiration of working in your department in 2 years (Queen’s Rad Onc). I know a few of the medphysicists in your dept; can i connect with you? (Hiki ke kama’ilio ma ka ‘olelo Hawaii, ina makemake ‘oe)
@@kca698 , yes....let me know, how I can help
I'm JEALOUS!!!
Glad you can afford to live there. Unlike many born and raised there. Unable to afgord a home and live on the beach part time in bewteen jobs. Hawaii is the biggest welfare state kin the Unionnext to, California. Many, Many locals born and raised cannot afford a half million dollar 3 bedroom home. And if you want to get a four bedroom expect to pay close to a million or more depending on the location. Then the outrages property Taxes. Then the outrages utlity's along with the overpriced water services. So many homeless on the beach. Sick of it.

Oldies
i love Hawaii and makaha is always in my heart its were my heart is
I watched all the Project Kuleana videos and must say that this one is my favorite. Wonderful work that they all put in, from performing to editing and making it appear as if they are all at the same place and time. Also, I accidentally ran across the project just a couple of days ago and can't stop playing it. A few weeks ago I lost a family member, which has hit me really hard. I lost sleep and appetite, while grieving. This music is the very first that was able to bring me back sunshine and hope; to cheer me up and actually lift me up from some rather dark times. For that, I thank you and will always cherish and respect Hawaiian music and culture in general. Mahalo!
ALOHA Hawaii die Musik von euch ist die beste und ich höre sie jeden Tag ALOHA Mahalo nui!
That opening shot of Poka'i Bay always gets to me. Spent 36 growing up in Makaha, Maili, and Nanakuli. Took my kids for swim there all the time. We just moved out of Hawaii two years ago cause was too expensive to raise six kids. But the ohana is going back to visit this summer. I'm sure they'll love playing in the sand again =) Thanks for this video, I watch it several times a week to keep me in touch with Hawai'i.
I was honored to have sat together in that little church 1:31 on a Sunday in 1997 with Uncle Richard and the Ho`opi`i ohana, the children and children's children in their homestead village at Kahakuloa. we sang hymns from the Hawaiian hymn book. Ho'olono i ka leo ma ka lani ia E Richard E. We listen to your voice from heaven O Richard. Aloha aku iā'oe 1:31
Love this music my cousin lived and died at pearl Harbour about 20years now still think of her to this day
This song and lyrics can’t get out of my head, I’ve led the song when I was in the Kamehameha program in Kona and can never forget this song. I would randomly start singing it when I pronounce Hawaii as Hawai’i if you know what I mean😂❤

The experts have conclusion that lands and seas in between that span Westward to Madagascar, Eastward to Hawaii, Southward to New Zealand, and Northward to Taiwan, they call the huge region "Austronesia" the land and sea in the South. The first fact an expert of French nation found was that the language of that great region have many similarities among others. My island in remote area of Indonesia that we have never been in even a single contact socially with Hawaiian people we call English word "Land" = "Tanah" (sound "tana"). And here in this video the Hawaiian people call their Land "Aina". When you speak Tana and Aina you will create almost similar pronunciation. And to my surprise in a RUclips video a Samoa tourist guide man say that in their language for English word "fire" is "AVI", and in my own language fire is "API". They say a House is "VALE" and in my language a house is "Bale". And in further, Hawaiian language of Number almost similar to number in my language. Why my language in a remote region of Indonesia have many similarities to the numbers in Hawaiian and Samoa even though in fact the three cultures have never have any contact socially for maybe in more than 5000 years? It is the main reason why experts come up with conclusion that our culture may have been in common origin in the past thousand years.
In Hawaiian a house is hale and fire is ahi. In Tahitian a house is fale. Very similar along with the indigenous people of Taiwan/Formosa.
Love it love it!
So beautiful
