  • It sucks and I can't get Grizzly to come pick it up. Very disappointed with this machine and their customer service.

    As already stated, starting amps and running amps are two different things and that’s not how you measure decibels for anything.

    Recently I purchased a Grizzly G0862 3HP Dust Collector and I totally agree with your review. Even with six inch ducting it sounds like a freight train rolling through my shop. If I could fit the toothpaste back into tube I would send it back.

    Starting current can be up to 10 times running current. There's a lot of inertia there trying to get that big impeller going... it's not the fault of the machine.

    I have the same unit. Yes the inrush current exceeds what’s in the manual. However NEC does permit you to account for inrush current within a certain percentage.
    The quality control items you mention are true with mike as well (except the welds). In fact the seal around the collection drum is my only complaint.
    The sound level is high but in my application it is in the next room. And the DB rating is NOT measured that close so I would not say it’s THAT loud.
    In all it is an outstanding unit for the price. No other manufacturer comes close at that price point. And grizzly has very good customer service. I am sure they would send you a new impeller housing if you threaten to return the unit. It’s all about performance and I have no complaints .

    I was apprehensive based on some complaints about vibration. Purchased the 1.5HP version Nov of 2020 and it works great. Decibels are lower than spec'd, no breaker trips, must have fixed the impeller issue I heard several complaints about.

    So he bought the bottom end 3 horse collector. He doesn't understand that amp draw is higher on start up. Probably doesn't have it set up right and is measuring db incorrectly on a completely open system. A very invalid review and really, you should know you aren't going to get a Cadillac at that price.

    What if the book that comes with it says 220 -20 AMP and you hire a electrication to wire your shop then grizzly say that on line it is 30AMP

  • @tekviper9
    @tekviper9 5 лет назад +5

    To address 2 of your complaints Specs call for a 30 AMP breaker its right on their website,. It needs 22 AMP to run 30 AMP min recommended. 2nd your getting more DBs because you have no pipes attached .

  • @easterlake
    @easterlake 3 года назад +2

    Of course it's going to be loud without all of your pipes and hoses not being hooked up. This really isn't that difficult

    I’m sorry, but he comes off as a complainer. Maybe h3 works for the competition? He expects a 3 hp to work on a 20 amp circuit? He’s complaining it’s a bit rough on an inexpensive machine. He wants a Ferrari for the price of a Ford. He’s complaining about a square handle he overtightened.

    Good video. Im looking to buy the g0441 also a 3hp. That one calls for a 40amp breaker. My understanding is the FLA is 22 amps and because of the big heavy impeller starting amps can be much higher. Which is why they recommend heavier gauge wire and breaker that one would expect. It would have been nice to see an amp meter on that to see what is actually pulls after initial start up. As for the noise, I heard it may be turbulence caused by the three nozzle adapter. Would have been interesting to see if removing that would quite things. Even still, 100+ db is crazy loud. Thanks for the review.

  • @stuartmoore5798
    @stuartmoore5798 Год назад

    You have under rated the breaker. Put a 40amp breaker and that might even take care of the vibration of the impeller..

    I was looking at getting a G0441 DC because I have a lot of other Grizzly products (which I have no complaints with). I went with a Clearview cv1800 with the 16 inch impeller upgrade instead. I don't have piping run to it yet and it is loud as crap. Notice some of the comments saying that is because there is no piping hooked up. Hope you guys are right. The main reason I went with a Clearview was because THEIR specs say that it is a 5 hp motor that requires a 30 amp circuit. The Grizzly specs say it is a 3 hp motor and requires a 40 amp circuit, minimum. Thought the Clearview motor was more.....efficient? Also, the Griz used 8 inch pipe. Clearview uses 6 inch stuff.....which aint cheap. I realize I am talking about a different DC than the one in this vid but just thought it may be something to consider. Maybe not though.

  • @stevewestbrook7025

    Per review of the Grizzly manual it clearly shows a 20 amp circuit rating. There is no way this DC should be tripping a 20 amp circuit. I have many 3HP woodworking machines with true 3HP rated Baldor/Leeson motors and all of them work just fine on a 20 amp 230v circuit. This is big concern. A 30 amp circuit would require 10ga wiring per NEC. Agree with other comments, dust collection piping must be piped to machine to reduce dB(A). Suggest you install an amp meter to verify FLA is 15.9 amps which is about right for a 3HP motor. Perhaps the motor control circuit is defective allowing too much amperage draw for too long causing circuit breaker to trip.

      It's pretty naive to expect a powerful dust collector to be quiet as well. They don't exist. Most people will be wearing hearing protection in any case when running any tools that generate dust.

      I ended up purchasing the Laguna C-FLUX 1 before the pricing went up. It's fairly loud too but like you said we all end up wearing hearing protection anyway. I've been pretty happy with the power even after 7 months. The suction is better than anything I've ever had before.

    interesting review.
    1. yeah the drum is not 1/4" stainless steel but then again why does it need to be? It's a fricking dust collection drum. It's lightweight for easy of emptying. As for it being out of round, yeah I'm going to go with no on that one too since the one I just assembled over the weekend is perfectly round and what you fail to tell people about the "square handle" is that where it mounts to drum is actually a curvature fit on the backside of the handle.
    2. the comment about poor quality control and pointing to that upright at 6:02 well that's on you, YOU did not fasten it properly when YOU assembled it. Mind doesn't stick out this way after I assembled it. I'm going to go with the fact that you attached those uprights to the base and TIGHTENED them when the instructions clearly say to finger tighten and for this exact purpose.
    3. suction - yep 100% agree it works great
    4. loud - it's a 3HP dust collector! did you truly expect it to sound like a roomba?
    5. amperage draw - starting amps and running amps are not the same so for you say "its eating up considerably more electricity than they claim" is wrong in and of itself.
    6. your topic says "It sucks and I can't get Grizzly to come pick it up" yet you go on in the video to state they want you to (rightfully so) package it back up and they are sending the freight company to get it. So which is it?
    Not too sure what "Daveability" really means but obviously it doesn't mean you're able to follow instructions and assemble the thing properly but it does seem to mean that you are able to get up here and trash a great product and a great company. I had a similar issue with a smaller dust collector but instead of jumping on youtube for your 2 seconds of fame and misfortune, I simply called them, they had me box it back up, they sent SAIA to pick it up, refunded the monies and then 2 months later I find myself ordering another larger machine, THIS MACHINE.
    You're a moron and this video is utterly useless and not truly factual.

      @Todd-W 4 года назад +2

      @@grantparnes whatever! go peddle your distaste for Grizzly to someone else who might actually believe your line of bullshit! I'm not saying Grizzly is perfect , they're no by any stretch of the imagination and I've had my fair share of issues with Grizzly, but with that said, I've not bought 1 piece of grizzly equipment that is not "any good" and I've got a lot of it. Only issue ever experienced was due to piss-poor packaging on Grizzly's part then exacerbated by the neglect these shipments take by carriers who don't give a crap about anything.
      What exactly would you be referring to in your comment of "Buy US"? Laguna, Powermatic, etc. what specifically please? I can assure you just because it's assembled in the US doesn't mean it's made in the US.

      had to step in and say, that if you can where you live, don't run the suction unit with a filter, but instead run an exhaust port to the outside air of your shop/garage. The filters are a rip off expensive, and would eliminate any fines inside the shop air. adding a exhaust fan into a window opening helps even more!!

    I have been fighting Grizzly for the last week because I bought this piece of crap. I have the same problems. I had a licensed electrician come install all new 100 amp service in my shop a few days ago. I had to put a 30 amp breaker on the 230 v outlet to run this. He put a meter on it and it shoots up to 100 amps when turned on then goes down to 27 amps. The Outlet that this requires is only rated for 20 amps THIS IS A SERIOUS FIRE HAZARD. Grizzly has been trying everything in the book to try to not get this back. I am losing $150 shipping costs and $150 restocking fee. If you are considering buying this......RUN .....RUN.... STAY AWAY. YES AS SAID IN THE VIDEO THIS THING SUCKS!!!! Also, not to mention, the cannister was smashed when I got it and they argued with me on that and didn't want to give me a replacement, that was before realizing the electrical problems
