The Incredible String Band, like breathing, offers evidence of magic. Wonderful! Thanks for posting this lovely music by this precious and delightful group. And my Gawd the photos you have posted on this are... dare I say it? INCREDIBLE!
Oh wow, I'm amazed that this was recorded. I was a stage-hand at the festival that year (ahem, basically a gopher) and was sitting right behind the stage during this performance. Now it makes me sad thinking of my best friend Glenn who was with me, and now he's gone.
Thanks for posting this. I was there at the festival. I drove from Chicago at 40 miles hour form Chicago, with a broken down 1959 Rambler station wagon. It was a great festival, the ISB being a big highlight.
Me too, from State College.I gave Robin a soprano recorder and talked to him and Mike for awhile after the concert.. This started a lifelong attendance at most of their East coast concerts, and robin's workshop at the Omega center in New York State when his son and my daughter were both 4-5 years old.
MANY THANKS FOR POSTING /IVE LOVED THE INCREDIBLE STRING BAND SINCE WAY BACK IN THE 60S, / I LOVE THE LINE UP ,ROBIN, MIKE, WITH BEAUTIFUL LICORICE, ROSE , ;MY FAVE LINE UP, ;THIS IS MAGICAL ;A MAGICAL TIME
Fantastic !!!! Every time I think iv'e heard it all from The ISB , some other hidden delight reveals itself...and in such amazing quality too .Thank you so much for posting :-)
I was at the festival and I remember the crowd kept yelling for their well know old songs and they refused to play their old songs. They argued with the audience that they get tired of the same songs over and over. They stuck to their guns. You have to respect that
Yeah they had moved on, it wouldn't have been as authentic for them to continue playing the most of the older material. Though they obviously could have, and it wouldve been nice in way as there are very few live recordings of the tunes from 66-68.
Many years ago, I was having a lot of trouble falling asleep. I turned on the radio, and, of course, what was playing? "No Sleep Blues." It didn't help, but it introduced me to an amazing band.
@@SpeegBJ Reread what I wrote up there... :) That sleepless night was in the 70's. I forgot to mention that of course I had to find the album it came from, which is called "The 5000 Spirits Or The Layers Of The Onion." I still have it, and I highly recommend it.
I'm wondering the same thing. Where did you find this PFF 69 Sonic Gem? Lol But it doesn't matter you found you Generously Shared it and Everybody here THANKS YOU SO SO MUCH!!!
@117079730876928298957 The ISB of 1969 were really into Scientology and I've heard audio of Rose stating that the music they made around U was almost all influenced or mainly about scientology. The ISB of 1966-68 were really into spirituality, and understood that no one know why we are or how. I identify with the mindset they had before they were into an organized religion. Which was in this case, scientology.
CHANCHOFACE Rubbish. Their music hardly changed at all after the conversion, except that it went downhill - they having burnt their best material on the 2nd and 3rd albums. Rose Simpson was never much into Scientology and left the band, citing this as one of the reasons - the other being that her and Licorice were not getting along, and the relationship with Heron was over.

@@martinkent333That's exactly what I was referring to in my reply: "unevenness of performance", and why we were so tolerant of that. As Robin once said, initially it was friends sitting round at home, listening to them play, but the numbers outgrew the venue, and they had to go on a stage. Fans felt like friends of the band, and you don't mind if friends don't hit all the notes when you are so into what they are singing ABOUT! Folk has different standards compared with this age of "autotune", and true beauty transcends surface blemishes. If you're not bothered by them, you will enjoy the beauty in a lot of the words and music, so I guess it's always in the "ear" of the beholder 😊
In this age of "autotune"? Sadly not! Though their performances could be very uneven, people were more open to what folk performers were saying, rather than wanting 100% surface perfection in how they were saying it. But this is probably not their best 😊
