    In 2000, at the age of 39, I was diagnosed with rectal cancer. I had some unexplained rectal bleeding. At first I just brushed it off as nothing, but a friend of mine insisted I go to the doctor and wouldn't take no for an answer. I was extremely lucky. The only treatment needed was surgery. I have no family history of colorectal cancer, did not smoke, and ate healthy. The best advise I can say is know your body and don't just brush things off. Thank God I had a friend that cared enough for me to push to seed medical advise.

So I advice anyone to go get checked I made the mistake watching online bullcrap that colonoscopy is dangerous and risky , believe me now how much I regret all that crap I wish I rushed to the docs and insist to do it 3 years ago!

    My uncle has this cancer right now. He's been fighting it for almost a year and a half. My biological aunt passed away from colon cancer when she was 45 years old. I'm 38 and scheduled for a colonoscopy in 2 days because of severe abdominal pain, wall thickening, inflammation, etc. I'm not worried about colon cancer with myself, but it has made me more aware of the awful disease that many people are battling. Also, I've made sure to start bugging my older relatives about keeping up with their 5 or 10 year colonoscopies.

    Yes the colonoscopy is paid for (insurance) BUT it is done as an outpatient procedure. It's considered outpatient surgery. Most insurance has a deductible that has to be paid for the out patient procedure. My hospital charges $300 out of pocket. May not sound like much but for a person on a fixed income or low income that is a lot.

    • @MoSec9
      @MoSec9 3 года назад

      It sucks that low income people have to pay that much for what must be a yearly checkup procedure after 50 at least. This should never be an excuse for anyone to not get get it done. Just making sure no one misunderstand your comment and unconsciously use it to no get checked

      @@clno7525 unfortunately my doctors were older at the time and have been retired for the last 4 years. I need a new oncologist myself but don’t like any of the new ones in the old office, they would make me wait to test results for over a week, and you just don’t do that to a cancer patient. So my family doctor once a year will order my test to see if I’m still in the clear and it’s funny how I only have to wait 24 hrs for blood results and generally 2 days for actual tests. I hope you find someone.

    At 48 I did a colonoscopy and the doc said all is clear. I am a non-smoker and I exercise everyday for an hour doing statics or 3km jogs. Now at 56 I went for another colonoscopy and they found a tumor near my appendix. Did a biopsy and cancer marker test and they confirmed I got cancer. Did a CT scan and the doc told me its stage 2 or early stage 3. My symptoms were intermittent minor muscle cramps at my abdomen, constant constipation, mild back ache and a grey strip appeared inside my toe nail. So this coming 22/8/23 the doc is going to cut a small part of my large intestine away and hopefully remove my cancer.

    Last year I was really sick. I would eat then not long after I was sick. I went to the doctor he felt around my stomach by then no pain he put it down to a bug. Well I kept on being sick and I was over it. Working and being sick. I saw another doctor and finally she sent me to have an ultrasound. Results said I had numerous gallstones. So finally I had an answer. I kept on and on at them as I wanted to be seen to get them out. I saw a specialist she said I don’t think it’s gallstones from where you are getting the pain. I said from day 1 the pain is under my belly. Or around it. Cut the story January 1st I go to hospital I had gone in 2 days before this. I was also blocked from going poop. Which I didn’t even know. Back to the hospital I was throwing up and my stomach was bloating and I’m in pain. A lot of pain. They put this awful tube in my nose to my stomach. I was so scared the nurse wasn’t helping I know I wasn’t making it easy but kind words or something I was crying and being sick. I then had a stomach X-ray, ct scan, and a colonoscopy. Well they were unable to go all around. But took a sample. Results came in later I had a tumour cancer 🤭😢😭 I was in shock. I filled in some forms later on. Then I was wheeled away for an operation. And at home was my 16yr old she was all alone :( she has never been left alone at night by herself. So her seeing me after an operation with tubes it wasn’t nice. I did chemo. So next year 2021 I’ll have another ct scan. And in 2023 I’ll have another colonoscopy. I had 1 a few weeks ago and all looked good.
    I’m fine now but 2020 has been a very odd year.

In fact, my brother, for reasons unknown, placed the blame on me becausr my father and I would have a cookout weekely. After thr surgery, the doctor told us that he it had progressed to stage 2 cancer. When my father got this news his response was straight and tk the point: "If this ends up being stage 3, just let me die in peace. F*ck chemo."

    My beautiful wife has been diagnosed with Stage III C colon cancer at the age of 35, 4 weeks ago ??? Symptoms was the same as a bad stomach bug, she was treated for Crohn's disease by a surgeon who did not even recommend a colonoscopy, up until 5 days into the Crohn's treatment and only after I demanded a second opinion. This "surgeon" confirmed that his treatment would have continued for this disease for the next 6 months, if the scope was not done and the cancer not found. By looking at the scope, he even mentioned that "we are lucky that it is only in the early stages", but after removing half of the colon and 31 lymph nodes and starting chemo on 07 July 2020.........how was this "early stage" ? How do we get rid of these so-called surgeons, whom we are trusting with our lives in their hands ???

    DR. SCHECTER said Insurance companies cover the cost of colonoscopy. Uh, sure, but only after the patient has met his deductible. A fairly healthy person with few medical bills during the year and a high deductible plan like $5.000, will pay the entire cost of a colonoscopy, $2500-3500,.and not even exceed his deductible. That's not much of an incentive to get tested.

      The way I see it, a routine colonoscopy is easier than getting one when you are ill; that would not be very pleasant. And also, if they find something then you have time to think, since you are not ill yet.

    • @nbeisg
      @nbeisg 10 лет назад +1

      Blood in your stool is a symptom of colon cancer so you should have it checked out waiting is a bad idea since if you have it the cancer will only get worse. I had blood in my stool and went in to get a colonoscopy. The doctor said my prep was not good so he could not complete it. The next day I had extreme pain and went to the emergency room and they did a CT with IV agent scan and did not find anything. I left and came back the same day and was admitted, they ended up removing a tumer the size of a golf ball, I had stage IIA cancer. I originally thought I did not have cancer since I had not eaten red meat in 20 years, ate huge amounts of fruit and tried to avoid chemical additives .

    Some studies suggest that melatonin is helpful in prevention and adjunct treatment of colorectal cancer. It's helpful to avoid blue wavelength light at night like that from computers and cell phones one to two hours before bedtime. Sleeping in a perfectly dark room using only Amber or dim red night lights were needed for safety will help maximize your endogenous melatonin. Good luck everyone. Wish good health to you all. In addition, 8 hours of sleep is very helpful as well in prevention of colon cancer. But remember, sleep in a dark room and avoid blue light at night at least one hour before bedtime. Consider melatonin supplements, Time released, especially if you are a senior. It is common for calcification of the pineal gland leading to reduced endogenous melatonin, beginning at the age of 45 and getting worse with age.

    I have MediCal and am having a hard time getting a general doctor to give me a referral to a colon expert. I know I need a colonoscopy and have been trying to get one for the last 5 years. I can feel 2 polyps and a huge hard mass. I've been having digestion problems that are just getting worse and now I can feel a third polyp that is bigger and more odd shaped. All the research I have done points that I have colon cancer and I am getting mad and frustrated that I am being misdiagnosed and not given the proper tests and treatment. I could have cancer that is spreading and I could die because of doctors refusing to give me a referral to a doctor that could actually help me and give me a correct diagnosis. I'm 46 and have always been healthy, eaten a very healthy diet, exercise, and I'm not over weight. I take very good care of myself and go to the doctors once a year for a check up. If I feel like something is wrong then there definitely is something wrong. How can I find a colon doctor that takes MediCal and will see my without a referral and I don't have to sit in a clinic all day long only to end up just getting a blood test and sent home?

    Primary care doctors need to do a much better job convincing their patients to go in for a colonoscopy. So many people put it off for so long because they were dreading the procedure. I didn't realize they actually put you to sleep for this. It was totally by chance that the my doctor told me because I half jokingly expressing my reluctance to go through. And boy am I happy I went in when I did. And by the way, it was my first time under anesthesia and I can tell you it was the best nap of my life. I don't think a doctor will be reading thus comment section, but what a pity that doctors themselves don't really realize the importance of colonoscopy.

      Hi, so sorry for your loss. Could you explain the careless treatment your father got?? I just had colon cancer surgery Jan. 21st, 2019. My tumor was the size of a softball. I was told all the cancer was removed with surgery and chemo or radiation was not needed. My tumor was also sent off to California to be tested to make sure all the cancer was removed. My test came back good, a score of 7, which my oncologist told me it wasn't likely to ever return. That was good to hear. About 2 to 3 months later, I started having this slight throbbing pain where that tumor was. I told my primary doctor and he said it was probably adhesions or the colon healing from the surgery. The pain persisted, off and on, and I told my doctor on June 6th, I wanted a CT Scan of this area. A mass was found almost in the same place but not as big as the last one. All the doctors I need to see now are on vacation so I'm just sitting here with this mass and not knowing a dang thing. I don't know if I have to have surgery again (God, that was painful) or chemo or radiation, nothing. At first, I was scared, but today I got angry. I want to find out how this could happen?? I didn't even make it to the 6-month follow-up colonoscopy. I would love to know your opinion, please. PS: If anyone reading this is scared to have a colonoscopy, it is no big deal at all. They give you an IV drug and the next thing you know, it's over. No pain at all.

    How can you be sure if its colon cancer vs fibroids or ovarian cyst, because don't all 3 cause belly pain? How do you tell the difference? Can fibroids & ovarian cyst put you at a greater risk for colon cancer? Can hemrroids turn into cancer in the GI track if their internal or external? Can fibroids & ovarian cyst give you problems in your GI track? or even your lower back? Thanks for the video!

    My sister-in-law is 51, & was diagnosed with this in April, after seeing her doctor about feeling tired. She was found to be severely anemic, & after tests, it was discovered that she was into stage 2 colon cancer. She had surgery in May, & has recovered very well, & there are no indications that it has spread anywhere. She was offered chemo, as an "insurance policy" against the disease, but chose not to have it, as she feels so well now, & the chemo would likely make her feel bad, & it only improved her chances against it returning by a very low percentage.

    I have family history of cancers.Repeated visits to drs in uk to no avail,even though for the last 2 years I’ve had persistent abdominal pain,change in bowel function,excessive flatulence etc.Drs are not sympathetic.I know my own body and know something isn’t right,but they do not want to try to find an explanation.All they have done is sent me for a pelvic ultrasound scan and said that maybe I had a kidney stone,or an ovary cyst had burst,but they just don’t know!! I would have expected further investigation,but instead was asked by the gynaecologist if I could manage the pain!! Useless

      Of course. Especially if you have a gene (lynch syndrome) it increases the risk of getting colon cancer, bowel and two female related cancers by as much as 85%.
