I’m from Washington state(some of the best steelhead Al salmon fishing) and the wiggle wart is an extremely versatile lure for us. We can catch everything with them. Coho are absolutely nuts for these things.
Both of those V37 Brown Craw you showed were Pre-Rapala. You could tell by the ugly seam down the back. The Pre-Rap V37 came in many different Brown color variations depending on when and where it was made. The newer one have a totally smooth back

What would be a substitute for a sub wart? I haven’t seen anything that looks similar. I just found out my new favorite lure is a sub wart and I was disappointed to find out they no longer make them. Help me out
Don iovino from major craft helped create the original wiggle wart and knows the exact science behind it, so even tho the zoner hunter is different he made it so the action is extremely similar to the wiggle wart

I can't find the WW05 pre-1999-Rap designation no. for a transparent blue back with a faint scale pattern and and a totally clear belly? What are the approx.value on these: Fire Tiger V74, Nat Brb Craw V63, Met blue V142, Blk Back Chrome V103, Yellow Glitter V70?
I can't tell you off the top of my head as the prices change all the time. There are several really good pre-rapala wiggle wart facebook groups you can join and they will give you all the info you ever need. Thanks
The Azuma Boss Hawg is my favorite rendition. The Brad's Wiggler is probably closest to the original, but you have to tune them before using them, and will need to change or tweak the hooks to keep them from getting stuck together. Not a big deal for me because they are so inexpensive.
Hook guards for these small hooks is just too much trouble really. I just use rubber bands to keep the hooks out of the way and prevent tangling. Any hook guards that you might see on my videos came from ebay sellers.
With some crank baits selling for $20 plus. Surprised someone has not laser scanned the original and made a carbon copy of the exterior shape and bill. Maybe they can't use the same type plastic or (I heard lead rattle inside) but should be pretty similar. Copy righted? Maybe. Thinking tungstun rattle. Or thicken the rattle chamber to mimick the sound.
My understanding is that the old plastic had a carcinogen in it. And, you're right, the old ones had a lead BB. With the two in play I think that the new ones probably have a harder clacking sound with the steel BB.
Used blue labels my man. They are Mexican. The red labels. Are from Norman. Oklahoma! The og are made of old plastic no longer available. The originals are prized by fisherman. Because they have a ‘hunting’ swimming action. Very random. 😊
