Lol. I know. Another astute viewer pointed that out. I had 10, but somehow I skipped one. Sorry about that. I will be posting a video this week on all of my favorite craws. There are obviously duplicates with those in this video, but I have several more craw patterns that I really love.
I fish MIchigan waters and find that the crawcolors work great in rivers, but in lakes, I find that "Natural Perch" outperforms all other color patterns. MIght be the white bill flashing that attracts the bass and walleyes. I hate to use them now because Pike love them as well.
Found a couple of old wiggle warts from my Father's tackle box. The color that he showed in the beginning. A translucent red craw. Just slated em' last fall and winter fishing. The action is totally different than any other crank. Shawn.
You can recreate pre rapala action in a couple of ways: make a two piece mold and resin cast your own imperfect copy, file the lipto be uneven, swivel snap to a new wiggle wart. All create the exaggerated hunting action
Storm used to make a pre Rapala wiggle wart that was metallic gold with a black back (V-104 I think is the part number) and since Rapala acquired Storm they no longer make this color pattern. Storm has since started making the "original" wiggle wart line and they have metallic, red, blue, green but still not the metallic that I mentioned. Have you ever heard why that they stopped making this one particular color pattern? I know that these sell for a lot on Ebay if you can find these and this color pattern is still used on their hot-n-tots. Just curious and any information is really appreciated. Great video and thanks for showing us all of these wiggle warts! Nice collection by the way!!
There is difference. I have a handful of these in their original packaging never opened up, and I'll probably never open them up. Wiggle wart was our main go to lure when I was a kid growing up in the 90s.
@@codybieker4924 I've never used them , so I have no idea. All of the people that have used them say there is a difference. I and several others would like to see an underwater test so we can tell what that difference is.
One thing you might want to do is upgrade your hooks to the short shank models, as much movement as they have they can easily get tangled. The rock crawler is close but theres actually 2 lures that hunt just as good as the ww, the first is an old school lure Mann’s Razorback the second is a new lure made by 13 Fishing called Troll Hunter and they come in several different depths. My favorite wiggle wart that’s not a custom job is the V45. Thanks for the video!
What do you use on your treble hooks, some have tubes, some look wrapped, some have some sort of cover? Hate them all getting tangled, but more important, don't want them getting worn.
@@MrBassTV Thanks. I remember you showed the rubber bands, just didn't know why you used each option, benefit, reason, etc. Appreciate it. Where did you get the caps, do you know a brand?
You do know you pre raps are nuts right. Of course theres times when one lure works better than others. The new warts and deep warts put alot of bass in the boat and outfish rock magnets (crawlers).
I would start with any of the ones I show in this video. If you can only buy one or two, I would start with the phantom colors, but you can't go wrong with any of these in the video.
They started in Oklahoma and created a plant in Mexico. However the plant manager in Oklahoma moved to Mexico and oversaw the entire process so the Mexican assembled Wiggle Warts are just as good as the ones made in Oklahoma.
So the deal when rapala bought storm, they didn't change the mold, they had to change the plastic that the bait was made out of. The plastic from the original was highly carcenoginic and they basically had no choice but to change it. I can't remember the name of the type of plastic. And the original wart was a solid piece and the new ones are two piece that are basically glued together
Hi Chris, thanks for sharing, but that is an urban legend and not true at all. The plastic never was carcinogenic. I am personal friends with David Storm who grew up in the business and actually made the lures in the factory and I confirmed this "legend" with the Storm family because I always thought that was the case too. There are other real reasons why the lures are different that I am going to share on a future video. Thanks again for sharing your comments. It's great to hear from other anglers that love wiggle wart like I do.
@@MrBassTV No one ever seems to talk about the "Made in Mexico" print on the packaging. Maybe if we all ignore it, it'll go away? In Tulsa, Oklahoma some time around 1980, I was at a seminar where Cotton Cordell was a speaker. He was bragging about his huge new factory where he made thousands of lures everyday using this new injection molding process. I asked him why, with cheap labor and increased production ability, the lures cost the same. The room got noticibly quieter and I never got an answer.
That's a good question. The prices really vary depending upon who is bidding at the time. I would check some of the wiggle wart Facebook groups and ask them what they are willing to sell a V86 for. If you are looking for one out of the package to fish with you can get it for less. In a sealed package is much more so if you want it to fish with, don't buy one in the package.
This was a mold issue and a quality control problem also. Before Rapala, the left and right side of the bait were glued together by hand. Depending upon how careful the work was, you can find some really quality problems. A lot of times, that does not matter though. Sometimes the worst looking baits still fish well and vice versa. Not sure about the value or collectibility of a lure with defects.
I've tried fishing these baits without opening the package but, surprising as it may be, they don't seem to work very well. Could I be doing something wrong?
All of the old warts were glued together by hand. This made a lot of them uneven or out of line. Perhaps this had something to do with the action of the bait, but I’m not sure. Rapala assembles the new Warts buy machine now, so there is a difference.
There is an OLD gas station in Basehor, KS that had 3 pre-Rap Warts hanging on the shelf. This was back a couple years or so. Natural Green Craw for 6 bucks each. I bought all three and kept my mouth shut. This gas station isn’t near any lake and is pretty low traffic. I can imagine they’d had them for years and must have just put them out. Also picked up a couple of old Normans
always keep an eye out. I see some little country stores that have maybe a 3 foot section of fishing items. Most of the time it is for worm and cricket fishing but you never know. Wish this could happen to me.
Great video! But that was only 9

Love the v37 and Missouri Craw. Thanks for the video.
For some reason I have 2 Fire Tigers in the package and one out... I just can't resist them when they're under $30. Great video!

v148 is my favorite. The chrome rainbow colors drive the pike and bass crazy.

I would like to see the old vs new in a pool test just to see if there is truly a difference.
There is clearly a difference. I'm going to do that when it's warm.

I dont think he fishes these😂
Randy Bockhead know everything about everything.
I noticed that most of your picks have orange bellies.
Cool vid. Gained a sub. But where did you get that hat? Minor League Baseball?
Yep. The MILB has some of the coolest off the wall team logos out there. Makes for a great hat.
If you live in the Arkansas ozarks have you fished lake fort smith
V181 prism is probably my favorite
I can't argue with that.

Are some pre raps made in Mexico and even older ones made in USA? When did Storm brothers switch to Mexico? That had to affect the action.
They started in Oklahoma and created a plant in Mexico. However the plant manager in Oklahoma moved to Mexico and oversaw the entire process so the Mexican assembled Wiggle Warts are just as good as the ones made in Oklahoma.
what no. is the black back and gray to silver with red gill line

Mr Bass I wouldn’t mind it being out of the package , but I still probably wouldn’t fish with it I’d keep it for my grandchildren
Are pre raps with deformed backs a factory mistake or was it a special type?
Do you think they would work well in Alabama the water gets to 40 degrees here
They catch fish all over the country, so I am sure there are Alabama anglers that use them at times.
Pre raps with split backs ? Was that the mold issues that rapala changed ? And are they even more of a collector item with that flaw?
This was a mold issue and a quality control problem also. Before Rapala, the left and right side of the bait were glued together by hand. Depending upon how careful the work was, you can find some really quality problems. A lot of times, that does not matter though. Sometimes the worst looking baits still fish well and vice versa. What hooks and size do you use on the pre rapala warts? Thanks
If you don't want the hooks to foul, there are several choices. #6 on the front and #8 on the rear.
If you like the hunting action, the mega bass s crank is phenomenal.
Thanks for the info!
Do you have any short warts?
I've tried fishing these baits without opening the package but, surprising as it may be, they don't seem to work very well.
Could I be doing something wrong?
No. I think that’s perfect! Keep trying.
Do you think it's a coincidence that all the crankbaits have their lips out of line. Thin wart, short wart, hot and hot etc
