This is what I needed to see. I have a 2016 Rubicon unlimited Hard Rock. I am gonna put Yukon rear shafts and RCV’s up front with Dynatrac ball joints. I wanna run 40’s as well. I live in South Carolina near the beach and don’t go off-road mostly flat daily driving. Just wanted to know what you think of that set up since I won’t be crawling or climbing. You will be plenty strong. I beat the crap out of these axles over the last year and a half on 40's doing the toughest trails out there. Holding up great!
I’ve been running 40s on my ultimate dana44s last couple years, definitely plan to run one tons in the future when the budget allows

Lol I'm on 40s on my JKU with a Dana 30 front and 44 rear. These videos are hilarious with gurus saying you can't run Dana 44 on 40s.
Yup it's 100% dependent on how you wheel. The "Crash and Bash" crowd will likely break 44's left and right, but for those of us who actually wheel with some finesse and calculation, 44s can handle 40" tires without any issues.

Same gusseted dana 30 on 40s, 5.13 gears running mostly on sand dunes. No problems.
Great info about running 40s. Did you need to add spacers for any clearance issues while turning the wheel lock to lock?
Yes, I run 1.5" spidertrax spacers. No issues. I also added some spacers on the wheel lock stops.

4.88 but I have a manual so I can get away with not going to 5.13
Thanks for posting this. I've been debating on whether or not to do tons or a junk yard swap just to run 40's. I mostly do off road recoveries and overlanding. I'm not really into heavy crawling but sometimes the trail doesn't care what you want.😅 Going with Dana 44's would save me a bunch of money.
Chromoly axle shafts, truss and gusset. I would also recommend HD ball joints or the Delete kit that I run. Then send it!
@@Blubicon Definitely going with the Dynatrac Ultimate 44. RCV’s , ball joint deletes and a good truss kit is next on the list.

Just beefed up my Dana 44s on my JKU build and am running the 38” Patagonia’s. Only reason I didn’t go larger is because I want to be able to park in the garage 😆
I might have that problem soon, adding another 1.5" lift in a few weeks 😬
@@Blubicon I’m running a 4” Teraflex long arm kit and also have the Teraflex Nebo roof rack. Clears the garage by one inch.

You need MetalCloak Game Changer 4.5" lift. The kit comes with everything you need. Make sure to get the LONG TRAVEL RockSport Shocks included, and add in the exhaust spacer and also the DB3 bracket for rear geometry correction. metalcloak.com/jk-wrangler-4-5-game-changer-suspension.html
Im just a mall crawler and have 38s on my stock Dana 30 and its just 2wd I just use it to ride dirt roads with the family but i have always wanted to put 40s!
Best to get at least a D44 if you are gonna run 40s =)

That's actually coming soon! I am editing a video to review the 40's on 44's after one full year of abuse. Should be up in a few weeks. My axle is a TERA44 model 3544253. RCV shafts, ARB 30 spline locker, American Iron Ball Joint Deletes. Steering is Barnes aluminum 1 ton. Redneck Ram hydro assist. Brakes are Teraflex Big Rotor Kit. Metalcloak track bar, Synergy track bar bracket and sector shaft brace kit. Rear is a stock JK 44 housing, 35 spline ARB locker with Revolution chromoly shafts, Teraflex Big Rotor kit, and Synergy track bar. Still needs a truss lol
They make them more beefy now. I seen someone running 40’s on stock Dana 30’s with stock axles.
Yes ever since 2018.5 when the new M-version axles came out for the JL models. They are definitely a strength upgrade over JK axles.
Lmao I just got five 40s delivered and I was gonna ask my friend to help me because he has a truck. Turns out that I can probably fit three on my JLUR without removing the hard top, and I'll have the wife take the other two in the back of her Cherokee latitude, damn things have a lot of space. Currently running trussed and C gusseted RCV'd front and chromolied trussed rear. Lots of 1 ton guys giving me shit because I am not gonna spend $16k on a one ton swap 😂😂

My man, I've been running 40's on my JKU with Dana 44's for two years now. I wheel pretty hard but respect the skinny pedal. If I can't crawl or bump and obstacle then I just don't do it, common sense (no bouncing) goes a long way. That said, my Dana 44's have been trussed, RCV's and chromoly rears as well as all bracketry had been upgraded to Barnes Off-road 3/16" steel. I think it all depends on if you upgrade the axle when you run 40's. So far so good on my daily driven 40's/44's combo. ruclips.net/video/G8eqs28JY38/видео.html

I have a g2 dana 44 front, 5.38 gears, rcv shafts, psc Hydro assist, and a rubicon 44 rear with rcv shafts 5.38 gears and its been great. Not saying you can't have issues doing it but it doesn't mean it's not possible or practical.

That's my build as well. I have even run 38x15.5r15 tsl for a couple years with no problems. I guess I need lessons on how to break parts so I can upgrade. Keep in jeepjn!
If you convert your axles to full float you can run 42's no problem.
Can't lose with 42's.
Have you done any gearing at all? How does transmission like it?
Running 4.88 gears with a 6 speed manual transmission. Great combo for off-road and daily driver. I might re-gear to 5:13 down the road.

Nice video- yes the same story’s here in Germany- you can’t drive 37s on D44 - they will bend or break… after 8 year on 37s without any problems a buddy of mine infects me with the 40s virus… so shit I really want it.
Yes there are a lot people they say you can’t drive 40s on D44 - but there are a lot people who drive them an it works. So I order 5 pieces of very sexy 40s Toyos an and let look how it works. I think - built - break- repeat- if something breaks, o can tell my wife - sorry - the front axle breaks - I have to order a ProRock or a G2 … it’s my Daily - I need it to drive to work - so what other options I have .. 😅
I am a but believer in "if it isn't broken, why replace it?" So I will keep this experiment going as long as possible =)

Only issue I am seeing so far is the 1-ton tie rod ends are taking a beating. May upgrade to 2.5 ton ends soon.
Just bought a dana spicer 44 front axle assembly for my jk for when my 40s come in. Went with a 4.88 ratio. Wondering what you are running
TERA44 front with 4.88 gears. Upgraded to RCV axle shafts also, and ball joint delete kit from American Iron Off Road.
those arent true 44s either, at least the front isnt, its got a 44 center with 30 axle tubes and 30 outer C's
Not in my case. Front is a TERA44 aftermarket axle. .50 inch thick walls, 3 1/4" tubes, and MASSIVE C's. The TERA44 axle is basically a hybrid 44/60 combo. D60 strength with a D44 diff.
This is cap, wheeled my cj7 with 38 and a Dana 30 and model 20 for years in Tellico and countless others.

You don't need 1 ton axles to run 40" tires 🤷🤷 this applies to 92%of the people whom own jeeps, it's only about 8% of people doing serious hardcore rock crawling. I've had 40s on my 44s God knows how long, and I do heavy deep mudding, trails and street. NEVER any problems. Cause I'm not bouncing off rocks etc, like a majority of people that own jeeps. Marketing tactics, and no knowledge has A LOT of people WASTING money 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣😂😂

@@sethdearden548 first couple 44s absolutely no upgrades 🤷🤷 now though because I like things to look proportional, I just put artec truss kits. Again though the main thing is NOBODY whom is not a Professional Rock crawler/bouncer needs 60 axles. Ive been doing this longer than most have been alive I'm sure. 👍👍Plus my background in certain fields, I know what I'm talking about.

@@sethdearden548 absolutely nothing, I've got a 392 Rubicon, and I'm waiting for my 2023 392 Rubicon Extreme Recon to come in, I've already got the 40s for it, the lift, trust me, I act pretty stupid with my jeeps, deep mudding, running power lines, some crazy trails. You will be fine. Now if your rock crawling to the point where your tires are bouncing off rocks and loosing traction and then just as fast gaining traction, well then you may have problems, I go over rocks yes on trails, and down trees etc, I don't do anything close to what they do out Midwest, and even then, if you know how to work your throttle, your fine, for me on the east coast, it's mud and trails, 🤷🤷 20 yrs, and NEVER a problem. 👍👍you can put an artec truss kit on your axles, and you can upgrade to chromolly shafts, but you don't have to do anything else, I don't know what tires you run or gears, so I can't say about that, but as far as strength of the 44s yeah, I wouldn't worry.

I have 2014 jku rubicon with 35’s I want to run 40’s on it I don’t do no crazy ass off roading like most people but I do take it in the woods sometimes. I have 1 ton steering up grades and teraflex hd upper and lower ball joints. My Jeep is my daily driver but I love how the 40’s looks and I wanted to run them, what’s your opinion?
You can do it but you will need to run at least 4.5" of lift and you are gonna need to do a lot of trimming because you will be rubbing.
@@Blubicon I only have 3” or 3.5” lift not sure it was on Jeep when I got it, but I have the high clearance off road fenders and 2” spacers on already
