When i see people that can't function or have serious brain damage. Or have friends that died because of keto. And i have yet to see even 1 pearson on keto that can physically exert themselves.
Keto is not only silly and groundless.

My LDL cholesterol went up and the doctor wanted to put me on statins. But then I asked him isn't there different kinds of LDL ( I knew there was so I was trying to respect the doctor by just asking him). So then he said we can do a coronary artery test it will cost out of pocket. I said that was fine. When the results came back with 0 absolute no calcium plaque. So next visit he did not saying anything more. Thanks Dr Westman for you humble attitude but also your boldness to speak the truth! You are breath of fresh air!!!!

My ex-cardiologist told me I needed to be vegan. I said that isn’t going to happen. I am low carb, lean mass hyper responder, and he was panicked by my increased LDL while achieving my best HDL and Trig in my life. I said to him, I can’t be the only low carb patient he has seen and I asked how do they do. He said, “I don’t know they stopped seeing me”. Yep, me too. Heck with low carb I have no symptoms requiring a cardiologist…so there’s that!

You're 100% correct. Most of these cardiologists either have a vegan agenda or too plain ignorant about nutrition. My HDL was 59. My LDL was 196. When I was on the Standard Cardiologist Diet my HDL was 39 and LDL 198. I was also having heart pangs and joint pain. Now on keto I haven't any of those ailments. I will never go back to the SAD.

You realize how disingenuous these two are when the host sets up how keto is bad (before the conversation even begins) and then the doctor sells it as a starvation diet. I've never been hungry one day after 5+ years on low carb! Amazing--I eat everday and still went from 250 to 175 pounds. And hospitals are nuts too. My spouse is in the hospital recovering from surgery. (A diabetic in remission now for 5 years--off all meds). We talked to the dietician before the first meal arrived emphasizing we didn't want anything with sugar and to keep things low carb. What did they bring in for breakfast this AM? Apple juice, applesauce and cream of wheat with brown sugar and apples. Maddening!

When your body uses fat for fuel, the end-products of fat metabolism include carbon dioxide which we exhale and water, which we lose through urine, feces, sweating, and respiration. How do you know that the initial water loss seen isn't just that? We don't poop out lumps of fat.

If you do your homework and actual research, you will find many doctors who've reversed Type II diabetes in their patients (as well as high blood pressure, heart disease, etc.), and all for LONG-TERM health. And all of these doctors and their patients have done it with a whole-food, plant-based diet, not with keto diets. You have to be your own health advocate and do your own research."

That initial water weight is from lower inflammation and is an indication of a prior bad diet. I can eat some food with Sodium Nitrite and I get very thirsty and put on 4kg, it takes 4 days of fasting to lose it again, this shows that the sodium nitrite is not very good and now I try to stay away. I did a week test where I ate standard diet crap and a few days of fasting showed that I had gained water weight from inflammation. Eating only meat for a week put on an almost insignificant amount of water weight so I stick to a carnivore diet :)

Yes, carbs are like a sponge to water. That's why marathon runners carbload , and with a healthy metabolism it serves them during their race. But the one with a wonky metabolism sure can do without the water balloons that often attach to their ankles and/or knees so I don't get why he's kind of mocking that, initially "just losing water" when it is a relief to a lot of people who may have been somewhat limited to their ability to excercise etc for just that?

I love how supposedly educated people who have to know that humans store a good amount of fat, even when fairly lean, and yet cannot understand that the body works just fine on fat and is not 'in starvation mode' until that reserve is used up. I still cannot understand why we think glucose is the 'preferred' energy of the body. I get it that some cells need glucose, thus the body make it for those cells, but it makes it just fine even when living off primarily fat with no problem.

I remember 15 years ago in school majoring in bio and health they told us evryone would go into keto acidosis and your brain can only use carbs etc. But then the first admission was that keto was the best way to get people to lose weight beyond 6 months which is basically the biggest hump to get over with weight loss. There's so much more data now and anyone who actually understands keto can see through the poor studies saying keto is bad. Usually they don't even describe keto diets correctly in the studies and forget net carbs are what you count. Also as a bigger guy who works out, i go as high as 50g net carbs and stay keto eating lots of non starchy veggies. I eat more plant based on keto than off. You don't have to just eat meat and cheese

Yes, unfortunately, many doctors act in the medical field as people in sports and politics do. Not only rooting for their team but also attacking people who are "on the other side". I have 40 years of medical practice (my photo in the profile is 15 y/o) and I changed and adapted my practice many times, accordingly to the new information/knowledge available. It's not easy to change old paradigms.

Any diet that avoids sugar and alcohol is beneficial.
And since you're own body can create all the glucose it needs, then only protein and fat are actual dietary requirements.
Carbs can help competitive athletes but they're not necessary for regular life.
The simplest explanation for a healthy diet is that you eat enough protein and fat while avoiding sugar and alcohol.

Is this cardiologist an actual doctor? I mean, when he compares the keto diet to smoking or doing cocaine, he says that these will also improve diabetes and high blood pressure… I don’t know about blood sugar, but I don’t need to be a doctor to know that smoking and cocaine both worsen high blood pressure!

Keto is mostly accepted as a legitimate diet anymore. The trouble is, it is just another diet that most people fail at. It's not really a life choice. A life choice is eating healthier and getting more exercise. You can do it on keto, Mediterranean, vegan, whatever.

My first comments since my CAC Score was done this Friday. Bad news for you all. I have had 4 CAC Scans now. First two were before Keto. My current age is 55. Age 42 score was 0. Age 51 score was 62. I started Keto in 2019. Been strictly Keto/carnivore now for over 3 years. Triglycerides were 500 now they are 90. A1C was 5.9 now its 5.2.....labs are good.....Age 53 (2021) had another CAC Scan score was 108. This Friday was 2 years so I had my CAC Score done.....it was 226. That is a 45% annual increase on keto. I'm getting my APOE Gene test this Friday. Eating saturated fat is killing me. Sorry to burst your bubble but I have been totally on board...I listen to Ken Berry, Ivor Cummins, Eat Mostly Fat guy..... I also been taking double dose Vitamin K2 every day for 3 years! Didn't work for me. So I'm going low fat, complex carbs, Fish, skinless chicken breasts, lean protein with daily exercise. Be very careful eating all this saturated fat. Some people absolutely can't handle it. I'm apparently one of them. 3 years I have been eating pork rinds, fatty meat, bacon eggs.....it was killing me.

Hi Kevin, it’s really a pity you didn’t learn Dr. Westmans method. He specifically does NOT advocate high fat on his program. I know this is not what you learn about Keto on the internet, but this is one area so many get it wrong. Fact is, the “High Fat” comes from your OWN body fat stores.

My understanding from Prof. Bark Kay is that atherosclerosis is caused by systemic inflammation. How does high fat cause inflammation to cause plaque build up? I’m sure activity level would play a role too. So many variables.
Is eating the same amount of fat and protein in grams considered too high fat? Like 130 grams of protein and 130 grams of fat.

I am 5 weeks into the keto diet and I think I've reached Fat Adaption because this morning my ketones were 4.2 ,after some recent days of Time Restricted Eating (skipping breakfast). However , despite having no symptoms of low blood sugar , my glucose was only 1.1 !, on wakening this morning .Is this normal ?. According to google, I should be in a coma with blood sugar of just 1.1 .

Or ketones? Unless you are on medication for hypertension or something else. In that case be careful because that will influence what happens.

wondering if he gets funding by someone? I’m from the 80’s with low fat. That’s when I started having problems & started seeing Drs. All tests came back negative. Celiac, lactose etc. I was always thin & muscular. I exercised all the time. Decades later, I can drink only full fat dairy or you hurt. Can’t eat soya, use to drink soya milk. Don’t eat bread, sensitivity. I kept saying to Drs I think your tests are wrong. Then took lyrica, & carbs killed me. 10 yrs couldn’t get rid of the fat. Only Keto worked. I’m still not at my BMI at the high range. So I have more to go. This cardiologist is probably being funded by some lobbyist group. He’s off the mark.

Ignorance is bliss… or better yet, the greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, but it is the illusion of knowledge. I do not pay attention to the condescending elitism when there is an abundance of clinical and evidence based data on Keto. God forbid you learn something beyond your medical training which begins obsolescence the year after graduation.
