    His Eric Johnson referencing is gratifying. I first encountered Johnson on the inaugural G3 tour and I thought he took Satch and Vai to the cleaners.

    I'm not unhappy about my level of playing. I always feel there is room for improvement. People put themselves out there and upload these video's so that some people can find some inspiration from his playing or learn something.
    I'm 39 so the 14-20 something prediction might be a bit off track. I'm interested to know which guitarists inspire you and what you are unhappy about in your playing. All the best!

    @srvgravesdime Well in all fairness, I honestly think he's earned the right to gel his hair and wear mascara if he wants to, because he's reached a pretty damn insane level of playing as it is.. Seriously, before you criticize him, watch some other videos of his, at the very least. Because from what I've seen, he can play some of the most beautiful and moving pieces ive ever heard, then in contrast, play a terrifyingly fast freak sweeping fiesta at the drop of a hat.

  • @pepachet
    @pepachet 13 лет назад

    I have found that negative comments towards another player usually reverts back to you being unhappy with your own level of playing. I admit that I have been guilty of it myself in the past. Might I suggest that everytime you feel the need to criticise another player, resist and go and practise solidly for an hour. Before you know it you won't be bothered with try and bring other players down to your level!

    @HurricaneTBag Hate is such a strong word. I don't hate any music, I just prefer not to listen to some and that may be my own weakness as a musician. If you can embrace all music then you are truly free and unrestrained by musical borders! I wish you good luck on your musical journey!

  • @HereticHammer01

  • @L33tP1ckL
    @L33tP1ckL 13 лет назад

    Yeah ppl, lighten-up on the hate (comments) for this guy. He not only seems rather pleasant and far from arrogant as someone mentioned, but he definitely shreds. I know his look/attire may be a little peculiar, but it goes with the territory for a lot of these guys and trust me, he gets a hell of a lot more pussy then we do. Keep on rocking Glenn and most importantly, THANX GUITAR WORLD!

    @pepachet I am in no way trying to denigrate this guy, I wish I had half this dude's chops. But, I mean...at the end of the day there gets to be a certain point where increased skill doesn't really allow you to make better music. Devin Townsend said that you should never have more technique than creativity, you should develop your technique only as far as your creativity allows it to be useful.

      That is the difference between ordinary guitarists like me who play for 30 mins-1 hr a day and the real deal, discipline is what you need. Plus time and starting at an early age. I guess I'l'l just stick to watching these guys and respect their zeal and perseverance.

    • @NeilRaouf

      i think you don't need 10 hours of practice every day. 4 hours are perfect. you practice musicality as well as technique. the hours 5 to 10 are many times nonsense. you ear is tired your fingers as well. doesn't particularly improves your playing.
      mostly you're improving your technique during these hours. but doesnt' make you a better musician. just brings you closer to a machine :-)

    • @michaelruggles9441
      @michaelruggles9441 10 лет назад

      Neil Raouf I heard (or read? - can't remember) of guys like Tommy Emmanuel playing upwards of 16 hours a day. I've heard one other very good guitar player say 16 hours, but it seems like the standard for most virtuoso guitar players was more than 10. That's either how much they wanted it or they were just obsessed with getting better. But to say that 10 hours a day isn't "needed"? Needed for what? To be a phenom like these guys it probably is.

    • @garvam
      @garvam 10 лет назад +1

      I am a guitarist too and I busk almost every day for like 7 to 8 hours. If I wasn't busking I won't be playing 8 hours cus I get bored, no one to listen, emotionally, mentally you get tired after 2 to 3 hours. the max I have played inside my room is up to 4 hours and that's once in a blue moon. 16 hours everyday is totally bullshit.
      Little advice is just be musical every now and then. Thats enough.

    • @michaelruggles9441
      @michaelruggles9441 10 лет назад +1

      Garv Bomjan it's not bs man.. both of you are just giving your opinion about how much you think is enough, and all I'm saying is that it wasn't enough for these guys. I'm not even advocating playing that much, I'm just saying they did and that's probably why they're tremendous players.

    • @NeilRaouf
      @NeilRaouf 10 лет назад +1

      and that's absolutely ok, my man.
      i think it depends on if one wants reach sheer technical perfection. but too much mechanics and motorics do overshine the part of an own and personal "storytelling-approach" in music. i come out of jazz. and there that's the essence of playin' cool.

  • @HurricaneTBag
    @HurricaneTBag 12 лет назад

    @pepachet Ehhh, some guys' styles you just hate. Either you find their playing to be facile, think they're just a rip of, or you think they're just a joke and don't really contribute anything to music. This guy kinda seems like MAB for a new day, which is fine if that's what he's going after...but keep in mind that's not everyone's cup of tea. Shred for the sake of shred really gets old really quick.

    while you are still young you need to develop Travis picking because if you don't learn it now you will b stuck in the " look how fast I can play" mode which is sterile and generic...Chordal modality a la Ted Greene...and the HUMBLER...Danny Gatton. for. virtuosity on a stick...

  • @brettlac
    @brettlac 13 лет назад

    He's obviously got a ton of talent and technique but it's really strange that he was that heavily influenced by SRV and EJ and this is the tone he developed? Unless they just has some overly distorted piece of crap amp laying around at guitarworld for him to use?

    Glenn is a nice fella, but hell, he was training 10 hours a day to play licks, not even arpegios? or sweep picking? Hell, every boy on the street can play faster...
    If we give him Paul Gilbert song, he will commit suicide? And for Jeff Loomis parts he will spent rest of his life training?
    Maybe he is more technical in other videos?

    There's not a hint of blues in his playing. It's all just tons of distortion and zillions of notes. Pointless, boring, heard before, no signature sound. I don't hate him, I just don't think he adds anything. But I don't like Bonamassa either -- when I want to listen to Eric Johnson I listen to the man himself.
