Congrats on navigating thru the town and the traffic. I wonder if clearing some more trees at the other farm would help with increased land to farm closer to home? Maybe sell the wood for firewood. Good luck.

Wow that's a lot of road travel thru towns and streets. Road travel is a fact of life, we pulled the hay/corn wagons on the roads sometimes behind pickups but mostly tractors. Very different in the 70s and 80s, people passed a little slower, different times :) Music was a fender mounted Tractor Radio usually an AM radio. I being the smart one :) put an FM converter in one about 1982 and boy that was a hit! Good Country and Rock in those days too. My whole 80s HS soundtrack is now an "oldies" station LOL.

Great driving skills and you did not even snag one mailbox or recycling bin. In Europe tractors and combines have to be licensed and everything has to fit in one lane. I grew up on 4 acres of land and hand planted, hilled and harvested 6) 100 foot rows of potatoes so I have a feel for them and what your job is like. I worked for a small farmer with a 1950's potato picker machine part time and that was cool. Keep up the good work.

The videos are great Molly! It's interesting to see the operations and equipment. Different farming has different equipment. I watch Laura Farms on RUclips. Her family farms grain in Nebraska. We sort of farmed when I was growing up, and I used to work in the fields, sometimes driving the tractor. My sister married a dairy farmer from Wisconsin. I used to help out there from time to time.

Good morning! Really enjoy watching your videos! I spent several years here in Montana working as a seed potato inspector for the MT Department of Agriculture. I would guess you guys have a similar program where every load of seed is inspected for size, condition and disease as they come out of storage at the seed farm shipping point and loaded on the truck. Most of Montana’s potato production is for seed with most going to Washington state and Idaho. Working in the potato program here was quite a rewarding experience and is astounding the amount research and safeguards they are in place to ensure the potatoes are healthy and the farmers get the best quality possible. Finally getting to see the cutting process was great can’t wait till you get them in the ground! You are blessed and looks like you guys are doing a great job farming! 👍

That equipment handels a shit load of spuds !! All we used was roughly a 3'×5' metal table with an apron type chain with different size cups( small medium or large) & every potato was laid on by hand. Every time a cup was at a certain location a knife bar which would cut 2,3 or four pieces would slice down in the cup. Yes it was as slow as molasses in January but got the job done !🥔🥔🥔 Hope ya have a great season.

My help was always losing the knives . I solved that by making a bracket with a clamp attached to the sides . No more lost knives and you could use both hands to cut big pieces . Funny the similarities to the cutter and duster . My cutter was a Betterbuilt , they were built in Orem Utah . I am pretty sure those boys in Utah probably copied your model . No real secrets in the world in the potato business . Good video as always .

Yeah Dan the mounted knife sounds like a good idea! And as far as the copy of equipment. You’re right, there’s no real secrets with Agriculture machines. Thank you very much for watching ❤️talk to you later!

Approved by 70s music, I notice that over here we have mini tubers that are sown for seed. Not sure of the process but these were grown under hydroponics. I guess they are new varieties for release. A lot of ours are chipping potatoes so disease free and spot free appearance is important. We don’t want brown spots on our fries do we? With fried, mashed, boiled and baked potatoes the only vegetable available to many Americans, you have your job cut out. thanks for the video.

Wow that looked like a little bit of a drive, at least the traffic wasn’t too bad

It’s not too bad. You have to time it right though! No driving when school busses are out!

Once again, this shows how many tons of potatoes you raise and work with each year. It also shows how much work that has to be done to put them out the door.

Not fun moving equipment through town, my buddy farms mostly solo so he bought a pit bike he could load and ride back as getting back or out to other locations was a challenge
    Great choice in music!

If you think of it, mention to Ray and the others we really appreciate all the wonderful detailed knowledge of the farming that they share. I know it must not be comfortable being on camera, not a natural thing for sure. But I really love hearing all those sage tidits of knowledge. I'm sure others do too. I grew up this way but there is a whole new generation that has no idea where their food comes from, and who grows it. Ray and the others really are the superstars of the videos (you're ok too LOL).

They really are! I’m just learning, I will try and get them on the camera as much as possible! Ray does pretty good.

Gotta love moving equipment that far. Farthest my father moved equipment was 15 miles 1 way but 24 between a couple locations.

I grew up in 50's/60's so, ya. Classic rock. However, give Joe Bonamassa a listen. I saw that he's going to be traveling with the Stones this summer. On another subject, I've never put lime down (maybe I should) but we always dipped fresh cut tators in sulfur before shoving them into the ground. A side note: I know it's not the primary reason you do these videos nor why we watch them, however.... it sure is nice to see you with your hair down. ;-).

Very cool, man that seems like a long drive Molly how long does it take when you move your tractor like that? Why is it I knew you are a classic rock girl. I could just picture you and Shane Cruzn down the hi-way on a chopped out hard tail listening to “Shoot to Thrill” 😉👍🏼oh and by the way if you mess up backing the skid steer off the trailer you won’t damage the machine they bounce pretty well. 😂 It’s cool to see everyone looks very comfortable with you carrying a camera around. What qualifies a potato to be a “seed” potato. Some hybrid commercial corn is specifically engineered to qualify as seed corn, but I’m assuming its not the same as what you guys are doing? Great video Molly! Ray is a great addition to the videos!

    • @BellsFarming
      @BellsFarming  9 месяцев назад +1

I love it when Ray gets involved! He is the best. The travel in the tractor has to be like 25-40 mins lol I honestly haven’t timed it. The seed potatoes are newer genetics, so we are not planting a clone. Thanks Ed!
