As Bruce stood, he heard the quiet raindrops landing on his suit. He turned his head to the city below, an empty husk of what it normally was. It was the city he risked his life for every night for the past... he couldn't even remember when he had started this job. He had dedicated his life to it for so long it felt like a constant in his life. But he knew it was time to pass the torch. As he stood there, alone, he didn't cry. But he felt something well up in his chest. It was a familiar feeling, one he hadn't experienced in a long time. He felt as though he had lost something that was a part of him, something that he couldn't imagine living without. It was like losing his parents all over again.
…now all that’s left is finishing the knightfall protocol, goodbye Gotham, goodbye Jim, goodbye…Batman (tbh, this is how I felt after finishing the game and even coming back to it, it’s breathtaking, and in some spots even made me cry due to how nostalgic it was)
But he knew this was necessary for the protection of Gotham and the security of its citizens. For too long the city was riddled by crime, torturing the innocent and feeding the chaos. Something needed to be done. And like Bruce had told Selina, the Batman wasn’t enough. Something else had to arise from the ashes… of THE Batman. Something… Worse, he told her. Starting and completing the Knightfall Protocol, was something that Bruce envisioned to be the root in finally bringing justice and healing to Gotham and her life. The Dark Knight has began, and now he has risen. He needed to be… More.
