Actually 50$ seems fair considering 1/3 is cost of production, then you have to factor packaging, shipping, distribution taxes etc

but now they use vegan leather.. the quality of the bag declined too. I have a crossbody bag bought in 2019. didn't use much but they peel?? which is strange. leather don't peel. although I'm completely aware they use genuine leather; the lowest grade. yet I had the same material bought in 2014, works just fine
I found a Fossil brand new wallet at a second-hand store. I paid $10 for it and gave it to my son.
This is great advertising for them! I love my Fossil bags.
Be careful of fossil watche though. They are ridiculously marked up shitty watches

Rose anvil does this style with leather boots. I've learned so much and bought several boys based on his breakdowns. Highly recommended!

@@jordanjones7985 the antique WW2 boots hurt. they were vintage, built better then almost anything on the market now, and were totally up my alley style wise.
The rest are all exploration of what makes the style/brand good or bad.
it just goes to show, you’re just paying for the name not the craftsmanship/material.
I bought a fossil wallet 10 years ago, only the zipper is faulty now but still using it. Definitely worth it imo. Great video!
If this ever happens again and you bought it at one of their stores, take it back and see if they will send it in for repair. My mother in law did this for a wallet she loved and the store did this for her. I don't know if you need a receipt but it never hurts to try!
You can also go to a shoe repair shop. They usually work in all kinds of leather goods, or have contacts who do special items. I've had jackets repaired, purses cleaned and hardware changed to look new, soles on suede boots replaced. When you invest in leather, it can absolutely last a lifetime and be heirloom if kept in good condition!😀
They should fix it for free. I believe all their items have a lifetime guarantee.

I have had my Fossil wallet for over 20 years. It's still kicking.
Their billfold comes in various colours and patterns all year round and they always go on sale $19-25 depending on the month/holiday. I got one for free when my sis bought a bag~ I have 3 now 😂

I’ve had a Fossil wallet for years and the finish is slowly wearing down, as he noted in the video, but it’s a good looking sort of soft wear - no chunks of color coming off or rough patches. I love their stuff and it’s pretty much the only place I buy leather bags and wallets!
I think Fossil brand leather is SUPPOSED to show wear. I had a Fossil brand leather watchband and it started looking like it was a family heirloom! Wore that watch for years until it was stolen 😕
It is likely supposed to wear over time, for that vintage look.

Not exactly superficial dyes rather they sometimes don't want to cover the quality leather too much. In that case it still feels like that leather is supposed to feel.

I wonder if you could look at bags by Le Tanneur? They seem to use high quality leather but I'm not certain that's true.

In the industry yes. They have to keep up w production tempo there’s no time to hand stitch every single item and it’s not a lot of work to just step on a sewing pedal for a few seconds per item.

It's literally a full scale production line... there isn't one person sitting there being paid only $10 to make it. So the amount of wallets that come out of that factory divided by wages and production costs? Yeah probably comes out to $10 per wallet.

Haven't been able to find a similar wallet since. Makes me so mad. They got away with my daughters' Status cards as well. We're finally getting replacement ones after two years.
The most expensive purse I own is a Fossil bag. It was around 300 bucks. Probably not surprising but I really haven't ever been impressed by expensive, luxury brand purses (or other products).

When you compute the cost, you should include other costs like taxes, marketing, logistic, profit margin, recovery of investment in properties and equipments, etc. Not just material and labor costs.

This guy says 10 for labor for everything. So makes me wonder how accurate he is. I don't think he is considering the cutting, selecting, etc of the leather.

If it's decent or good value even "just" in terms of raw materials (and avg labor), I'd suggest its good value in pretty much any other aspect too.

Liar! It took you longer than 10 minutes to deconstruct the wallet, it would take longer to assemble. You always under estimate the labor cost 👎👎👎

How would you know if it is genuine leather without using acetone…i have small wallet leather it says genuine leather I use it for more than 7 years and it doesnt have any chips/tear …ps it doesnt smell like plastic but it has a smell that is faint woody odor

The leather is horrible quality what are you talking about. It’s refinished split leather. Really bad quality and mediocre craftsmanship. You can get better for 50$ or a bit more.
I have a fossil cross body handbag and it’s very heavy bag, you can tell it’s a good leather.

I had one for 15 years until it finally did a George Constanza and blew up on me!
