    The Lost Dutchman Original Finnigan Full Grain Leather Card Holder

  • @RodvyVideo
    @RodvyVideo 25 дней назад

    The Saddleback front pocket card wallet is the perfect minimalist wallet imo. It’s a very slim vertical wallet and has two pockets on each side that are best for 2-3 cards. What sets it apart from other wallets is the clever stitching that allows it to open in the middle, letting you store cash folded in half or even other cards and receipts. The inside of every pocket is lined with pigskin which is extremely durable and lets the cash and cards glide in and out easily. The outside is full grain leather so it’ll get a beautiful patina over time. I’ve had mine for 5 years and don’t have a single complaint, it has a 100 year warranty as well. I’ve tried using traditional bifolds in that time but I always go back to this one.

    I've been collecting wallets my entire life and for me it comes down to a few things, capacity, minimal, and I gotta like the look. How do you get capacity and minimal? I'm talking current 12 cards and 20 bills but can carry much less. Heres my favorites
    Lucas from JJ leathersmith
    Johnny cash wallet from tempered trail.
    Topsider bifold lt from open sea leather.
    S2 stealth bifold wallet from dango.

    I've been carrying the mitchell leather money clip wallet for 7 years. It has a real slim profile and the reverse shell cordovan has patinaed beautifully. Just switched to an ashland leather money clip wallet (the capone) and its been working out well so far.

    Nice video roundup of what you've tried and what has and hasn't worked for you.
    Maybe not the all in one solution ideal for carrying some cash you're looking for but my edc has been the PeakDesign wallet stand. I've used it for 2 years now and it's able to carry up to 7 cards, has a nice magnetic clasp which doubles as a pull out tab similar to what you liked with the Belroy, a MagSafe compatible back and a hinge which lets me use it as a phone stand and before I picked up a separate money clip (for the larger amount of bills I wanted to carry) I was squeezing 4-5 bills folded in half, clamped between the hinge. Although if your're really only carrying 3 cards you can probably fit those bills inside of the card pocket itself. They also have a non stand version which is what it sounds like.
    Some possible cons:
    It is alittle overpriced on Amazon third party sellers compared to the $60 msrp it launched at and is available direct on their webstie.
    The material is a nylon. (may feel cheap but doesn't show much wear, my charcoal version still looks almost new).

      I love Peak Design bags. I've liked the idea of their wallet for a kickstand/tripod. Thanks for the recommendation. How has it held up over 2 years?

    • @marcusc6588
      @marcusc6588 2 месяца назад

      @@SeanMarsalis Still looks new and I’ve stretched it out to fit another card. Maybe not the best tripod because the phone will always be at an angle ok for a FaceTime call but as a kickstand it works great holding that angle.

    Been a long time ! Very nice to have you back here :)
    Guess you encountered the Tauruscamp Grain wallet ? I absolutely adore mine, aged like fine wine with an awesome patina, very easy to operate. If you go extra fancy you should check out there shell cordovan ones. Chef’s kiss.

      Thanks for having me back! I'm just checking it out for the first time as you mention it. I've seen similar styles but none as elegant(?) as the Tauruscamp. I've always seen models that had more of a rugged outdoorsy look. The Grain looks pretty cool. Do you have the model with or without the snap?

    • @arssul3228
      @arssul3228 2 месяца назад

      @@SeanMarsalis I have the model without the snap but with the back pocket divided to accommodate a key. TBH, never used this feature (for the key) but I appreciate having a less deep pocket there for one or two coins and a bandaid for the kids. If I had to do it all over again I’d think I’d go with the regular size pocket though.
      I gifted these wallets to my brother, a friend of mine and to a cousin and they all really appreciate it. Also, I went for the larger version for bigger bills but I think the smaller version could also be perfect.

    Nice vid mate, glad you're back . Best wallet and the one I still use is the Tasso Elba (Macy's house brand?) slim bifold someone gifted me years ago. Has 4 pockets on each side plus the "hidden" inner pockets under the regular pockets, as well as the traditional cash area. Been wanting a new wallet, but I just can't find anything with that many pockets, not even looking by size, just the card pocket count (7-8 + 2 of the underneath side loaders). with around 10 cards + a keycard (about 2x a card) + 5-6 business cards + a cutting tool + a StandEasy phone stand it's still around 2.5-3cm ( 1in.-1.2in.). No idea how it's achieved this, but I'm frustrated I can't find a regular bifold with the number of individual pockets I want, so I'll be riding this one out until I can't. Quality isn't so great, but it's holding together fairly well still (~10 years)

    • @SeanMarsalis
      @SeanMarsalis  2 месяца назад

      I can't even visualize how that much stuff could fit well in a bifold! Quality can't be too bad if it's lasted you that long!

    I've bought 50+ wallets in the last 4 years from U.S$10 - U.S$100.
    I kept about 45 of them. They all have their advantages and disadvantages but I have found about 5 or 6 that I really like really like and use on a rotation.

    Get a sheet of leather or canvas or cloth or denim and built your own wallet from scratch. Only you yourself know what suit you perfectly. Just use plastic seal bag.

    I have all these or similar and like you can not settle on a perfect wallet. Best suggestion I can make is nivisto from Australia. They make kangaroo leather products that tick all the boxes for quality, look an thinness. I have 3 different models (card holder, bifold and trifold) that are all great options. The other one I use a lot is from open open sea leather ( I think it’s a Nimitz). They have some interesting products. The only consistent for me now is to only buy leather with no dye/colour. The natural leather takes on its own tan colour over time which becomes really beautiful.

    • @SeanMarsalis
      @SeanMarsalis  2 месяца назад

      Never heard of nivisto until now! I appreciate the recommendation! Do you find yourself actually carrying the trifold at all?

    • @njamesthomasl
      @njamesthomasl 2 месяца назад

      @@SeanMarsalis yeah occasionally. In terms of size it’s barely bigger in profile than a credit card. Empty it’s about 12mm thick. It’s not extreme minimalist but with the super thin leather and no lining even fully loaded it will be slimmer than a standard bifold. It’s been in the washing machine and heavily used over the years but still in great shape. There is another company in AUS called tailfeather that make roo leather product. I have had a couple of wallets from them in the past that are also excellent quality. Definitely worth a look.

    I'm currently rocking the Alpaca Zip Card Pouch. It's... fine? I appreciate nothing will fall out of the wallet, although the wallet itself falls out of my pocket. I still am a back pocket person, so thats where it slips out. It's great in the front pocket.
