First pitch to replace Corbyn: Labour hold first hustings

- When Jeremy Corbyn took over the Labour Party, he promised a "kinder, gentler politics". His critics argue that he and some of his supporters didn't quite live up to that promise. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
But the five contenders vying to take over from him seemed to take heed - all calling for unity at their first head-to-head debate in front of Labour members.
The way the party has dealt with anti-semitism within its ranks proved one of the main points of division.

Apparently 'the working class' are now all generally over 65 and live in small northern towns. They don't exist anywhere else
Exactly.
That is how labour has tried to portray it rolling along with the middle class elitists who don't believe anyone aged over 50 should be allowed a vote,
Labour has been under Corby a democracy deniers party the people could see through there Lie's

Apparently not in contemporary Labour circles.
Of course the far right has always pushed the notion that working-class English people are a bunch of racist bigots, they're not. And thank God there are people like Keir Starmer who have come from working-class roots and are challenging the self-centred elite made up of people like Rees-Mogg, Johnson, Farage and the property speculator Tice.
I don’t see how that’s hilarious. But it’ll be ironic i guess
I think Labour has to admit that if their going to win elections again it has to make the cities as red as possible.
You really don't know how elections in the UK work do you?
The cities are already as red as possible..

Identity politics is a loser but Labour doesn't seem ready to learn any lessons right now.

I think Kier Starmer is the smartest guy in the room (read: chamber). I'd give him a go - you never know, it might be 5 years of "doing Boris slowly" - IF he can convert that into parliamentary, news cycle and social media performance. Maybe Kier Starmer plus some Australian political operative? Paul Keating is unemployed at the moment - that could be hilarious, he could re-cycle his old material: "Boris? All tip and no iceberg!".
I want a centrist government and I really can't see labour offering that.
Labour may have become the masters of preaching to the already converted. However, being popular with grass root labour voters increases a candidates chances of being unpopular with the broader electorate.
The leader needs the backing of MPs above all else. I think that it should be Starmer.
@Adam Powell absolutely, but will they go with him? It is a nonsense to have a leader that doesn’t command the support of the parliamentary party regardless of their democracy.
@@creagmac3017 That is for the Labour membership to decide but whoever the leader is they have really got to work at those relationships with MPs, with Labour members and with the general public.

Rebecca Corbyn 2 needs to change the tune. Long Bailey would win the union has spoken
I think the areas where the Cons won in the north will go back to Labour once the Brexit situation is over. The area is largely labor but it is also largely Euro skeptic. Labour will have to have a big tent policy on Brexit. Most support Brexit but it is still nearly 50/50 and I think everyone is ignoring the Stay group except the Scottish NDP and some in Northern Ireland. I don't know how else a party could address that except adopting a big tent policy. Immigration is also a huge issue that many want controlled/limited yet Labour has been very pro immigration. Once the Brexit issue is over and the Conservatives implement too much austerity, social programs worsen, and they support unpopular foreign policies, Labour will gain some power and the Cons will lose. I think the fact the Cons won so largely is a concern. You need balance!
