I mean, he was kinda stuck in his own head and it's not like they could go in that side. Sure Edgeworth wouldn't hurt them, but they couldn't make an exception especially since he was framed for murder. One of those things where the audience knows he's harmless but in the universe they can't take any chances with it.

If you are still confused: the chain screen happens because of that rock (3:31), If anybody is holding information then that screen appears. The rock was given by a kid to Wright in the second game second case.
I personally didn't know he gives it to edgeworth in a later case since I haven't gotten that far.
