One of the most tasteful guitarist I ever had the pleasure of seeing live.
Agreed less is more. He is so inventive. He wrote the music for Boys Of Summer too. Not sure really if ego head Henley really has ever stated that. Love Mike's playing.
@@matthewburrows4359 I was fortunate to see Tom on the wild flowers tour and mike was like another frontman
@@yeager1888 Cool mate, Tom was one of the best.
Right on , I saw Mike 3 times I believe. Of course with Tom (RIP)
and the rest of the Heartbreakers.
Man I miss Tom!!!
One of these days I'll catch Mike and the Dirty Knobs. He's just a great musician and influence.
✌💀👍🎸🎼🎵🎶🧠🌌♾🇺🇸
Yep
Howlin' Wolf. A favorite. Early Stones...yes! I was obsessed with the Beatles before they appeared on Ed Sullivan. Seeing Bob Dylan next month at the Pantages. Kinks are so cool.
He’s in a class with all of those people he mentioned. Great musician💯
I'm just such a fan of Mike. Really a huge part of my musical journey. Funny i just picked up a copy of that Dylan record at Main St music in Manyunk a couple weeks ago
I’m so friggin happy!! I just listened to your album!! There’s gonna be music again!! Thank you for living your life of rock & roll!!!
Best rock guitarist all time…ThE Dirty Knobs albums are incredible
Yes they are!
Love the new tracks “It is written” & “Electric Gypsy”
Ageed agreed yes n yup
Great Pics Mike!!!! Love Howlin' Wolfe & of course That album by Dylan....She belongs to Me........❤❤💕🙋🏻♀️💕❤🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶love The Kinks too!!!!
It's funny how much he sounds like Tom Petty.
I was thinking the same thing the whole time! Tom is one of my Mt. Rushmore music artists and have been bummed about his sudden passing for awhile now - Mike was such a huge part of Petty's sound, an incredible musician in his own right, and just seeing and hearing him sounding like Petty does me good!
i guess when you hang around tom for so long, your voice ends up sounding exactly the same
Lol! Exactly.
I love that you always hear chickens in Mike's home videos. I know he rescues animals, I'm hoping those chickens are rescued as well.
Those are turkeys! 🦃🦃
@@Highland804 And it's coming up to Christmas...😉
Those are dinner
Mike is a true audiophile with his vintage Zenith portable suitcase stereo! I used to have one of those; it was my first record player, and it was all I needed! I even toted it off to college with me!
I remember browsing through the old Towers Records store in Woodland Hills, California,, and I glanced at the guy a few feet away from me and it was Mike Campbell. He was holding a James Brown CD - maybe a boxed set. Made me smile to see that his first pick here is JB.
Spot on.
Loved his choices and especially how he closed out 💛
Mike is a national treasure! Wish he was in Amoeba for an actual what’s in my bag.
I agree
A great choosing some greats. I got to see him with Tom Petty and the heartbreakers back about 95 or 96. Unbelievably good.
He's backed Dylan for hundreds of shows, and performed on several Dylan sessions. Even later Dylan albums. Bob loves his versatility, that ability to switch styles into anything. Play a rock song country style, or break it down to the blues level.
Hard to go wrong with those choices. All classics for the ages. Is it me, or is Mike starting to transform Into Tom? Just kidding. Love you, Mike!
Sounds just like him, California steaze...
Mike! Has your speaking voice ALWAYS sounded like Tom Petty's?!
He sounds high as a hippie in this video lol
He's an American Jeff Lynne (ELO). He's legendary at all fronts of the music industry; Musicianship, songwriting, production, and composition. Campbell has also worked with Lynne, so there's that.
Could not agree more.
Mike is my spirit animal!
lol
5:20 "Anytime I treat my guests, they always like my kitchen best..."
He's quoting the reggae artist Dillinger from the song "Cocaine In My Brain."
Good catch! ruclips.net/video/5xVp1mauGnU/видео.html
"Undercurrent of Sneaky Sexuality" is why he prefers Howlin' Wolf. That's Mike all over; no wonder
Very cool. I listened to the Dirty Knobs. My kind of music
He likes so many popular albums of the greatest artists. Loved Mike’s guitar playing, he added so much to Petty’s music.
Enjoyed this. Though I never got a chance to see Howlin' Wolf, I did catch Hubert Sumlin a couple of times. Hopefully his contributions to Howlin' Wolf's sound will always be remembered.
LEGEND.
Good picks
2:00. Your darn right, the great Brian Jones
Mike is a legend.
I think he´s a humble down to earth guy you can talk to about god and the world
Every record Mike held up is gold to mine ears , especially Howlin' Wolf & The KINKS ! Thanky Spanky !
When does rock and roll become a pop record? I suppose when 12 x 5 originally came out, it shocked most parents and totally rocked. Eons later, 12 x 5 has mellowed out.
Would love to see Wand in one of these videos.
I LOVE the Desire album! Not a bad track on that one.
Will be the King
What strain is bub on?
Right on Mike
A legend talking about legends.
Forget what’s in his bag. What’s in his hair?!!
Extra soap
Correct answer is joints
@@davidbalentine2110 you mean no soap? Lol
I was thinking that that record player looks just like the one I had growing up. And I wore that bad boy out.
I like the old record player.
Good stuff
After listening to Mike explain his take on the 60's music scene I needed to take a short walk over to my bag and take a peek at what was waiting for me inside of it.
One well used pipe.
1/4 package of Zig Zag papers
What looks to be an oregano product ?
And , of course, my old High School yearbook. BUT .... those folks are likely not walking around anymore so I'll just toss this into file 13. WAIT A MINUTE ! There were those cheerleader photos that I kind of liked a bit - so - guess I'll kinda hang on to that yearbook again. Scuse me for a minute K ? Yeah - that's better. Had to change my altitude and now I think it's time for me to replay " What's In Mikes Bag ".
See ya.
🙃
One of my favorite guitarists (and a fellow tele player.) Good but predictable picks. Was kinda hoping for his opinion on something current.
Broadcaster is his go to
There is nothing current as great as Beatles, Stones Dylan, and Kinks, not for rock & roll anyway. Bummer but it's true.
@@rockrecordreport7136 I agree 100%! That's why I thought a professional musician might know something we don't about current music.
good taste in music and a great guy
Classic comment…Desire ?.it’s not that old…ummm 45 years. Oh well.
I was expecting a bunch of capos and sun screen and extra car keys …oops.. good choices though. I thought that was a microwave in the back. 😆
Thanks for the insights. What cool is? Mike Campbell.
I remember going over to a friend's house to listen to James Brown when I was a little kid. I'm 76 now. He was the start of it all. I had albums of most of those bands you mentioned. My little sister sold them when I was in the army.... Even my fold up record player, like yours!!! God I was mad!!!
I wouldn’t of grrrrr , not been happy at all. Like to this day.
I was listening to my mom's old copy of December's Children a few weeks ago and couldn't believe how much Tom Petty sounds like Mick.
great collection mike!! just wondering.. did you ever like the animals?
Of course, they covered at least two Animals tracks. "Don't Bring Me Down" was released on a TP 1978 12"
He is one of my big big loves since 1976 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤l
I love that Mike Campbell and I have identical taste.
I had a stereo like that! The speakers ended up on the back deck of my 67 impala, hooked up to the 8 track player. Did a lot of cruisin’ in that car.
Love this guys music but his haircut is awful lol. Maybe im just jealous because he has more hair left than i do
Dulllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll. Chap needs to broaden his earlobes.
I listened to Desire over and over
Of course Mike is the only person on this series that has taste in music
Brillant 👏 Bravo 👏great choice from a great musician 👍✌️
Bless you Mike.
I love that his record player is in his kitchen. 😂
Does he keep his vinyl in his kitchen cabinets?
Amazing guitarist, amazingly bad hair.
Nice guy absolutely amazing player and so cool that he didn't feel the need to namedrop that he'd played with Dylan
Thanks Mike
for sure
freak in awesome ha-ha
👍👍👍👍👍👍
All of them in my jukebox!
Proof that you don't have to be malmsteen to get the work done right.
Yay, the Kinks!!! This is one of my favorite videos of Mike's. Mike reminds me of Dave Davies in many ways....on stage the way he physically plays and holds the guitar.
Love ya mike - but it's pronounced Ray DA-VIS. Someone in the biz ought to know better.
I love that smile at the end when You Really Got Me starts playing. Probably takes him back to when he was a kid.
Great choices!
For me the best part of that was the education on how to listen to your old vinyl in a world of more modern formats, after your old, trusted, fancy record deck has crapped out for the last time. Go find an old Dancette or the like! Many thanks for that very senior advice, Mr Campbell!
Very cool.
Everyone should read the biography "Joey."
Peace on earth.
Mike my man going with bringing it all instead of highway 61 yes!!
Love you Mike Campbell God bless
Nice!
Love his music but dude ain't heard anything since the 60's?
Bob Dylan’s “Desire,” 1976.
@@copwatchImperial yeah OK I must admit that was a pretty avant-garde pick.
Was there any good music after the 60's ?? Just kidding.
Anyone looking for a crash course in 20th century music, start here!
It's like your digging through my album collection

Capo total
👌👌🤪
Mike is freakin' awesome!
✌💀👍🎸🎼🎵🎶🧠🌌♾🇺🇸
I just want to pop in and say I LOVE Mike's playing.
❤️
He kinda reminds me of Robby Kreiger.
I had a tube version of a stereo like it . It cranked wish I still had it
was that a Dillinger quote at the end?
Not a bad record in the bag, hey Mike throw the first heartbreaker album in that sucker, hell , throw a few in there, its all good.
This is THE best record choices ive seen in this series!
His only bad choice was selling the Beach Boys album!
As a huge music lover, I enjoy the “What’s in My Bag? series to find out what many of MY favorite artists listen to. Good choices, Mike! Not to be a nitpicker, but I’ve read and heard in interviews that Ray Davies pronounces his surname ‘DAVIS’
But you’ll go ahead and nitpick anyway….smh
That’s RIGHT!!!
I love this guy !
One of the best of these I've seen.
Ohhhhh... I had that same stereo.
Is it a bag of hammers?
The smile at the end lol
Mike awesome selection
Class act. Respect. One of the all time greats.
100 💯👍💯
