To all you kids out there who want to be musicians, pay attention to this episode. The better the artist, the broader the styles of music “in the bag”. Listen to everything even if it’s not the genre you play. Especially classical. That music just gets your mind moving and what you play will just expand.
This is not just a demonstration of a person's musical taste. This is a MUSIC CLASS by Mr. Booker T. Jones. All my respect.
Man looks like he's about 40 years old. Legend
Was thinking the same thing
It's so surreal to have a legend like him on this show.
yeah i was scrolling past all their uploads looking for someone id recognize. had to do a triple take when i saw this and then clicked right away. the man just casually tells a story about hanging out with bob dylan.
In February 2020 he did an instore book reading and signing at Amoeba in San Francisco. Those events tend to be very superficial but he took the time to converse with everyone who attended in a thoughtful and humble manner. The man is giant in every way imaginable.
He looks 20 years younger than he is! What a musician.
Most guests never get this wide and deep at musically taste.
a living legend. Impossible to understate his influence on Blues, Funk and Soul
76 years old. Looks 35. Good music keeps you young.
Give Booker T. a radio show and I'll listen all day. This is fantastic!
Booker t is a legend
Love that he picked Steve Cropper first.
Booker T and the MGs, one of the greatest bands ever. My appreciation for their grooves grows with every listen. Booker, Crops. Al and Duck Dunn. Massive
Booker T. looks like he is 40 years old.
Indeed! Of course he locks a health elixir in your secret pocket, and maybe in 2 years we wil met him with 20 year old!
Black don't crack
That's because of the Green Onions
Until he actually said "...my band Booker T and the MG's", I simply could not believe I was watching THE Booker T.
Sure looks better than anyone else from the sixties that is still around.
Perhaps like Nicolas Cage he is a time-traveling vampire ?
It's really unreal.
Booker T Jones is a bonafide legend who influenced all the 60s rnb groups and rock bands which in turn influenced all popular music thereafter. LEGEND.
Everyone is complaining about a wrestler not realizing what a legend Booker T Jones is! Booker T and the MGs! Iconic
When I saw Booker T, I thought of Booker T Jones because I've been listening to Bill Wither's album "Just As I Am" where he mentions Booker T 😁👍
@@DonovanPresents I think he also mentions Booker T in the song ‘Do it Good’ as well.
@@williamlavagna1096 lol that's the song on the album I was mentioning 😁👍
From all the hits with the MG’s, backing so many legendary Stax artists (Otis being one), producing great albums such as Bill Withers’ debut, and all of his solo work.. Booker T. Jones should be respected as one of the best musicians to ever do it. Ultimate respect and awesome video
The best episodes are the ones with older musicians or DJs
If anyone has been listening to the "What's In My Bag?" series , no matter what kind of music you favor, and your mind is not opening wide, then Jack, you dead. And Booker T. Jones , we salute you! The best of the best!
Truly was a special "What's In My Bag with Booker T. Jones"!!! So great to see what he digs!
Yes! Albert King, Gil Scott-Heron, Ray Charles and John Coltrane! So good! Good music good people. Thanks.
A living legend. The best bag yet.
Just brilliant!!! The breadth and scope of his love of music is truly inspiring.
Loved his story about Albert King. A true living legend!
This is a fantastic list from a fantastic musician. And all you comment people who have not heard his work: use that device in front of you to listen to some real music for once.
A true and great American treasure, had no idea Booker was into classical though.
Thanks Amoeba, for getting my 2024 playlist off to a great start! Between Booker T and Black Country, New Road, I’m set for Q1!
Booker T. Is a living legend.
I could listen to him talking about music for days and days...
Saw him and the M.Gs backing Neil Young back in 93(?) At the old Exhibition stadium in Toronto. Great band, great show with Pearl Jam,Soundgarden and Blues Traveler opening for them.
I saw Booker T. Jones live at the Edmonton Blues Festival and met him. Cheers!
Memphis legend baby!!!!
Hero ... Booker looks so good and healthy ... wow ... much love from across the Atlantic
Booker T! Legend.
Albert King; hell yeah.
Booker T is THE man!!!
Other than his genius and fantastic attitude, I must express joy over his descriptions of Hammonds in so many things I've seen featuring him. Excellent evangelist for the instrument, ~as if his playing wasn't enough.
Sweet little video. Saw Booker T and the MGs at Wolftrap in VA in the 90's. Did a cross country drive a couple years ago and took the kids through Memphis to hit Stax as well. Rock on Booker T. Jones. Legend!
My man looks 50 years old, at the max. Dang.
This is my favorite episode
Class act
From my childhood till now, Booker T. has always been there and ever will be. Great man !

What an absolute living legend! So cool, yet down to earth and with a wide taste of excellent music.
He has not aged!
LEGEND
I was fortunate to meet Booker 1/20/17. He is so down to earth and a very talented musician!!! He is an awesome Hammond organist!!
George Shearing was from the U.K. - he emigrated to the U.S. in his late twenties
Wow. Just wow! What an eclectic collection of picks. You can just tell Booker not only knows music but feels it deep down.
Thank you Ameoba and Happy New Year 🎊
Happy New Year!! Thanks for watching! ❤️💛
Brooker T. has the best smile
Legendary and so influential and informative
Thank you for this, Booker T. And Amoeba! A masterclass in music.
WOW! Booker T looks wonderful. And what a musical education w/ that selection. Much respect.
Damn, I have almost all these records. I knew there's a reason I've always loved Booker T and the MGs.
This is one of my favorite episodes. Thank you.
Booker, What a beautiful man x
Damn, he looks basically no different than he did 10 years ago at his NPR Tiny Desk concert. Class act.
Black don’t crack! Looks amazing
Watched lots of these, but this is my favorite episode! What a legend & what an amazing music lesson we all just got from listening to him! ❤
#BookerTJones extraordinary great artist
Awesome! Love to see what's in Booker T's bag!
Melting pop and green onions classics
I could listen to Booker talk for hours! He's a true musician.
Legend
Wow. What an amazing guest. Kudos.
Thanks Mr Jones. For everything.
Seen Booker T & The MG's live back in 1993 when they toured as Neil Young's back up band. It was during Young's co-headlining tour with Pearl Jam (w/ Blind Melon as the opening act)
I saw it at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto with Pearl Jam,Soundgarden and Blues Traveler opening. Doesn't feel like 28 year ago.
@@fintanoclery2698 - Lucky to see the Bay Area show at Shoreline Ampitheater with Social Distortion and Blind Melon opening!
Love this man. A true legend along with the other MGs…
loved seeing one of my idols here!
Al Kooper, session guitarist, played keys on like a Rolling Stone. He kind of got "self-assigned" the role. Al put the church into that song, and he started a whole new sound for rock/pop.
"After Paul Griffin moved from playing organ on the song to playing piano, Kooper tried to get Wilson to let him play an organ part. Wilson rejected the idea. But when Wilson left the room, Kooper went into the session and took over the Hammond organ. Wilson let Kooper remain, and Kooper added the now famous organ riff to the song. When Dylan heard the playback, he reportedly asked for more organ."
He's playing 10 min walk from me in January awesome. Cheap tickets too. One of my favorites
I love how the youngsters on this programme are so obsessed with just buying vinyl because it sounds so and so, and then you get legends like Booket T. who just don't give a damn and buy CDs because it's all about the music!
wow! so dope! even at the end it was great to see him appreciate the store and being on WIMB!
Great and talented man
Hasn’t anyone in the chat heard Green Onions?
I have. Great tune.
It's a real underground tune.
Everyone had heard the song but nobody knows the face behind it
Green Onions by Vivaldi ? Yes I've heard it.
Yep my grand mother use to have the album also you can hear it in movies!
More like this please!!
Total class.
Legend. Awesome.
Great varied choices. Thanks for the knowledge sir!
Legend!!! This is awesome! Thanks AMOEBA!!!
That was great!
Wow! great man! great musician! great bag!
Great man, thank you
Anything this man recommends immediately goes on my playlist.
Part of one of the best bands of all time- not just because of the great music but how great a band they truly were- I would vote for Muddy Waters Band, Elvis Presley's first band, Little Richard and Fats Domino's band and Booker T and The M'G's.
If not your favorites, that's fine. But as a musician how these bands played together can and could not be beat. Oh, and please add James Brown's rhythm section and Motown's to this list.
Beautiful stuff Booker! Thank you for your insight here. You will never now how much your music means to so many people! Thank you man!!! Saying I wish you a great 2021 from here in NOLA!!!
That is a thoughtful person. Great insights.
Love it
Nice bag. Enjoyed this one.
added to spotify, just thrilled to her from him.
Little known fact- Booker T owned a ranch (down the street from me) with a guitar shaped fireplace. And next door lived Rita Coolidge's parents.
Booker was married to Rita's sister
Impeccable taste.
Now that’s variety :D
Bookers sense of understated clothing is spot on.
This guy is a gentleman.
What a legend! Love how he pronounces Sibelius' first name the French way, and also how wonderful was it back then to be able to go to the library/music library any time as it was open 24/7, most kids today have no idea most of us never had anything at our fingertips at any time of the day :)
Amoeba, can you please try to even volume out between interview segments and music ones? It was tough on the ears. TY and Happy New Year.
Booker got them good genes for sure!
Amoeba keep it up with these "What's In My Bag" pieces! Can't get enough!
Great guy.
Booker T looks great! Great list too!
Legend! Met him after a gig and he's the nicest guy there is....
The episode that finally persuaded me to subscribe.
