Probably my favorite book in the series. As memorable as the madness of the second half of the book is, the first half is where the big medicine is. Later on, you've got Reece working to make his place in the world, but the time in Mozambique he just WAS part of the world.
One of the best quotes from the book. "We fought hard but in the end it came down to politics". Thanks mate, look forward to the next iteration.
True believer has been my favorite book so far. The opening of the book blew my mind and set up one hell of a wild ride.
This, in my opinion, is the best book in the series.
I actually felt a true sense of loss when Freddy died..... probably from my own experience as a parent of a special needs son.... anyways, really looking forward to Red Sky Mourning!
I loved this book. The first part in Africa was great. I’ve been wanting to go on a safari ever since I read it. I cannot wait to see how they adapt this into the show.

Eric Hoffer (1902-1983), the Longshoreman Philosopher, wrote The True Believer in 1951.
The only quibble I have with True Believer is that it takes 160 pages to really get going. I understand it’s about Redemption and Reece regaining something to live for, but I feel the first third could’ve moved along faster. Other than that, amazing international thriller which sets the stage for so much of the rest of the series.
Reece’s time in the Atlantic and in Africa might be my favorite part of True Believer. Sometimes a quiet place to recover and reflect is what we all need.
I absolutely loved the slower relaxed pace starting this book. Totally different tone and held my interest
After reading all the books, which I like very much, the scenes in Mozambique depicted in the second novel are still my favourite. I have a strong connection to Africa. My father grew up in Angola and was a combatant in the war, special forces. I myself had the opportunity to travel to many countries in Africa, but unfortunately Mozambique was not one of them. My father in law was born in Mozambique, and was also in the colonial war in the Moçambique theater. The stories he tells me, and the stories my father told me together with my own Africa experiences made the pages jump to life. I've lost count of how many times I've read and reread just the parts that take place in Mozambique. So thank you!
Curious to see how that will be adapted to season 2 of the TV show.

Yeah, I get that sense when I am trying to write something. The story sometimes writes itself and a pet character ends up gone one way or another.

True Believer may be my favorite book of all of them. They are all pure genius though. Own them all in Audiobooks, and travel all over AZ with James Reece stacking bodies in the background! I think I’m currently on the 3rd time through the series (currently In The Blood). Freddie’s death pissed me off! His Son at the funeral….come on.
My question is since the Terminal List and True Believer we have not heard from Marco. Being as Marco was a good friend of Reece will he make an appearance in future books?
Anxious to get to savage son. Hopefully you talk about Louis Lamour’s “Last of the Breed” and its influence.
Maybe there will be a reckoning for our leaders today… probably a historical fiction
@jackcarrusa reading True Believer, just one comment, after all the research you put into the accuracy of your novels, why wouldnt you get the narrator for the audio version to pronounce “Selous Scouts” correctly!!
Its crazy you say you didnt plan on freddy dieing because when i was reading it it kind of felt like that part you changed hard to explain but it was flowing so well than bam the sniper shoots freddy .
Only book in the series I had trouble staying interested in and I wasn't alone on that take with a few friends who are fans.... but "Savage Son" got me happily back into the series. I keep thinking I need to go back and re read True Believer but there are so many books on my list ... it may be some time.
True Believer (with the first) were my favorites! They way it flows from the first is perfect.

I am a big Jack Carr James Reece/Chris Pratt movie and novels. Looking forward to the next movie with the Chris Pratt/James Reece character but not Taylor Kitsch. With all the other material for the movie have no idea why Carr thinks we want to hear about Taylor Kitsch's character rather than James Reece. I've bought several items from Jack Carr's merchandise but all his stuff is way over priced. No way I'd pay $150 for some shirt Carr offers.
You really succeeded in making Oliver Grey unlikable. He has some serious Cambridge Five energy.
