the funny thing is most jazz drummers were not only jazz drummers through all of high school but also marching band drummers haha so you have such a funny point there.

Do yourself a favor and watch Drumeo's video called Larnell Lewis Hears a Song for the First Time and Plays it Perfectly. Same format as this, but it's the very first one they did. They throw a jazz fusion song at him and what he does with it is stunning. He goes really in depth about his listening and writing process, too, and there are so many great nuggets of wisdom. Just in how you watch and analyze drummers, I can tell it would be right up your alley.

Love these reactions to these Drumeo series! You actually break things down that others don’t. Much appreciated, definitely need to check out Nandi Bushell and her playing Twisted Sister.

I just love it. Please keep breaking it down to the Barney level for me. I love that you do that. I love listening to you "drum nerd out"

I loved listening to you drilling down on this. Such enthusiasm, and insight on the nuances of drumming which is fascinating to me as a string player.
Instant follow. Go well, my friend.

Jazz bass drums usually are tuned higher and have more of a pitch to them. Little to no muffling. Since they don't have to project they tend to be smaller sizes like 20", 18" and even 16" sometimes (like the one in the video). There's usually no venting on the resonant head as well, which makes you produce weird flams if you try burying the beater when you play. Preferred beaters are usually felt or fleece.

More Drumeo First Times please, your analysis is great! Like the way you're honest about the occasional errors too. Please do Mike Portnoy doing Nickleback next!

Man, have you seen live drum cam recordings of Kai Hahto from Nightwish? Check it out, it would be interesting to see your reaction(if you are not familiar with songs - watch live songs before drum cam).

Love your reactions. Also i think you should check out doujin musical group called Undead Corporation. They are really talented at making metalcore and melodic death metal. My personal favourites are "Everything will freeze" (instrumental), "The Empress" and "Kushinada-hime".
    Im sure you'll love it.

I've loved Nirvana since I was an angsty 13 year old in '92, and I can categorically state that Kurt would've fkd with that version
