- The Huberman Festival. Tchaikovsky violin concerto in D major for violin and orchestra Op. 35. Henryk Szeryng, violin. Zubin Metha, conductor. Israel Philarmonic Orchestra
Ask violinists who their favorite violinist is. This guy. Perfect intonation.
Szeryng is Legend of Legends
Flawless technique and intonation. Even amongst the creme de la creme of great 20th century violinists, Szeryng was a standout.
RUclips is a blessing to all musicians because of videos like this, which would have otherwise been lost in time, locked away in some studio's vault.
I couldn't agree with you more. Besides it is a blessing to all listners as well!
Szeryng and Heifetz were just incredible.
Historic and magnificent performance. Szeryng was a giant. No bull just great music making.
My all time favorite and best violinist ever!!
My favorite violinist and idol ever!
Gorgeous tone, perfection!
❤ 🎻
The greatest of violinists!
Dunno if you guys gives a damn but if you are bored like me during the covid times then you can watch all of the new movies on instaflixxer. Have been streaming with my gf recently =)
@Jadiel Rhys yea, been using instaflixxer for since december myself :D
Yes. Underrated too.
Wow first time I ever heard the orchestra so on the beat with the soloist.
I was trying to find this for a very long time! I’m glad I found it.
Zubin, the orchestral balance is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
💯 agreed
Hahn blows away all violinists save fir Heifetz and Oistrak.
Szeryng il meraviglioso .
Szeryng has always been this here ex-violist's favorite violinist. There are, fortunately, MANY extremely talented violinists out there now (and I'm sure there have been in the past) and great classical music, such as this concerto, is, IMHO, doing well.
Two other violinists high on my list are Rachel Barton Pine and, of course, Perlman. But to me, Szeryng is the best.
We all have our favorites, and I think playing the violin (or especially the VIOLA:) ) is a very noble way to spend your time.
Master is Mastet ! Talent fleeting from every note…..🙏🙏👍👍🌹🌹
Ever since I heard Szeryng interpreting Mozart I have sought him out for any new music that I want to listen to. I am not a violinist or expert, but there is something about the tone that he achieves that I really love.
Perlman is a hack. Schmaltzy. Squawky, tries to make up for lack of technique. The greatest violinists of all time are: Heifitz, Menhuin, Oistrach, Chrysler. Hillary Hahn is the greatest living violinist. Heifitz, the greatest musician of all time. The GOAT.
@@georgehahn2979 Kreisler, not Chrysler 🤦♂️
Just watching the elbow elevation and it's power ,weight and control
together with the feet........balance ..exquisite.
Szeryng maravillosa interpretación.👏👏👏👏💓
Uno de los mejores de la historia.
Técnica prodigiosa.
Eminente intérprete sobre todo de Bach.
He is just legend
Violin god !!

Behind Szeryng magnificent violin virtuosity stands also a WWII hero. Every one today thanks to Spielberg knows about Schindler list but only few are aware of Gen. Sikorski and his secretary Henryk Szeryng wonderful action for which Gen. Sikorski was killed and Henryk Szeryng had on Stalin's order death warrant waiting in Poland.
Wow;!!
He is now playing the violin that was used in the past by Eugene Yzaye 💓
What ????
He played the Leduc Guarneri del Gesù , a violin crypted Annibale Fagnola in all its parts, now played by Augustin Hadelich. Stern played the Ysaie del Gesù
Guarneri del Jesu@@billinrio
Awesome...There was a REAL music! Why, why they dont play like this NOW!?
Because too many people have become like androids over the last 30 years and soon it will become even worse unless the WEF is dismantled.
@@mbwilson2625 Haha, sounds nuts but it's true!
😍😍😍🙌🙌
I saw him rehearse in Liverpool once.
This is wonderful and still, only a shadow of what he was in the 50s.
🥰
❤
What year was this? Zubie sure looks different. He watches Szerying like a hawk (which is good); slows down a bit too much at 31:57 (which is bad). The Vivaldi concerto, beginning at 36:57, should have been listed in the video's title.
1983
No, it does not slow down. It is called "rubato" and is a matter of taste, a taste greatly lost and butchered by most of today's 'imitators' particularly playing this concerto. In fact, the ethos he creates in both of the 'meno mosos' is mismenerazing in beauty and almost spiritual intensity - the dialogs between the woodwinds and the Violin - which is what Tchaikovski had in mind in his constant pursuit of that 'lyrical idea' the corner stone of his music writing. Most today don't seem to understand romantic music very well, and the art of the rubato scapes most modern players today...
@@NothosXXI Yeah, OK. no need to be condescending. I know what "rubato" is. Actually, it IS "slowing down", and then catching up again - "robbing" from one measure to put back in another. How nice that you are one of the few who understand romantic music today.

Isaac Stern and Szering are the best Violonist in the 20.Centry to my opinion
So polished...
Which year was this concert?
When artists WERE artists.....they SAID something back in those days...told stories with their instruments, it AINT enough or 'good' enough to just play every note......
Zubin metha looks very different. Is really Metha on the podiam?
Yeah, it's the man, but in the video he has a grown beard
Great! Slow but still great. Compared to Heifetz.

Unbelievable
I met him. Not very personable.
Also observed his habits.
He drinks a lot before he performs.
(Not water). It works for him. Bravo!
Terrible orchestra. Very vulgar sound and Mehta, only power, loudness…very heavy everything.
As good as Szeryng may be Hillary Hahn can blow him away. Hahn is the greatest living violinist.
Analyze her intonation carefully. Not even close.
Yeah, but that's just your opinion.
In terms of artistry, not even close. Hahn is a great violinist but for me, her playing doesn't move me like Szeryng's does.
Opinions, at best, but some more informed than others..
Seryng is at the end of his life in this concert; he would pass 5 years later in 1988.. and his rendition is immaculate like it always was.
I grew up listening to his recording of this concerto with the Concertgebouw and Haitink at the podium - Philips label.
Szerying is unsurpassed by even today's standards. He could play donuts around Hilary Hahn any day of the week, with a 48 hours notice, any concert, any piece, the whole repertoire anywhere in the world; so opinions are opinions, but some are more informed than others. Besides, music is a matter of heart and taste, and there is no comparison between a 21st-century artist from the legends of the past century. In fact, she, Hilary Hahn, is the closest we have to this great Maestro today, sound-wise and execution-wise. Although not even yet has been born a mind like that of Maestro Szeryng.
Your tone and discussion are very negative and disrespectful to a life that Mrs. Hahn yet has to measure against. Only time will tell...
