  • I interviewed someone who owns a 2015 Tesla Model S 85D for the last 5 years to see if it's still as good as the honeymoon phase. We find out how the battery has held up and how the reliability is after 80,000 miles.
What are your thoughts on Tesla and EVs? Have you experienced Phantom Breaking? Are you thinking of getting one as your next vehicle?

I have a 2019 Model S Performance and I occasionally get phantom braking. I've found it happens mostly with heat mirage, and occasionally when it thinks someone is encroaching in my lane. I'm always ready to take over in any case.
We love taking the car on long road trips, going camping in it, taking twisty roads, and even getting up into the snow. The vehicle has its quirks but I'm proud to own a piece of history.

Great job both of you. I have the exact car Manufactured in 3/2015 mine is an SP85D and my experience has been the same. I did bring it in for a new cabin filter and wiper blades. Tesla did some other things while it was there (minor but important) and did it out of Goodwill as my powertrain and battery are still in warranty, but the rest of the car is not. My range is 235 miles now on a full charge. Love this car!

Our family own three Model S cars since 2014 and all still work perfectly after around 350.000 km on each. Best Buy ever free SuC and Spotify

I have exactly the same car, I love it I did upgrade mcu2 on March it feel a lot better, I have the same issues on the mcu1 I didn’t do the recall I just go ahead upgrade to mcu2, if u plan to keep it for a couple years more, replace the mcu you won’t regret!! Faster more reliable!!

Thank you for the review. I am on the fence regarding buying a Tesla because I question the fit & finish quality over time.

Good interview as I'm looking at a Tesla S 90D, 2016 model. One thing on maintenance is the cooling system and brake fluid should be flushed and changed every 30,000 km to keep it on good order.

I would reference the owner's manual as the maintenance will vary from model to model. Where did you find the information about the cooling system and brake fluid as the owner's manual information differs from yours.

I'm an older bigger guy. I like the sedan look of the model S better.

good information; I am looking at a used 2014 or 2015 model from a dealer not tesla itself; worried about it being out of warranty and the cost of repairs without warranty. I think if you buy used from tesla they give you a brief warranty.

Anyone notice that the car owner guy actually sounds a bit like Elon Musk? (similar speech cadence and mannerisms). I wonder if he's been watching loads of Elon videos 🤣. Great review from a real owner. Would like to hear about any service/maintenance bills.

Connecticut. The dual motor works really well in the winter and snow.
