    Winter Fuel Payment - 2024 to 2025.
This video has audio, chapters and subtitles.
In England and Wales, older people may get Winter Fuel Payment to help them with their heating bills.
    Who can get it.
Winter Fuel Payment is paid if you get Pension Credit or if you get another means-tested benefit.
You may get a payment if
you were born on or before the 22nd of September 1958, and
you lived in England or Wales during the qualifying week.
The qualifying week starts on Monday the 16th of September 2024.
If you live abroad in an eligible country, you may be entitled to get a payment. This depends on your circumstances.
    How much you get.
A Winter Fuel Payment is either £200 or £300 per household. You'll get the higher amount if you are 80 years of age or over.
    About your payment.
You will get a letter in October or November explaining what the total amount is and how it will be paid. Your automatic payment will go into the same account as your Pension Credit or other benefits.
    When it is paid.
Payments will be made from late November 2024 onwards. Eligible people living in England and Wales do not have to make a claim.
    Living abroad.
You'll need to make a claim for Winter Fuel Payment even if you got it last year. To be eligible, you'll need to get means-tested benefit in the country where you live. Other eligibility criteria also apply.
A claim must be made before the 31st of March 2025.
    Living in Scotland.
If you are eligible, the intention is that you'll get an equivalent payment this winter. This will be paid by DWP on Scottish Government’s behalf.
