  • Uber said they are going to show advertisements to passengers at every leg of the trip, when waiting for a ride, on the way to the destination... Wait that means they are going to send drivers tablets for in car advertising. Are they going to be worth it or pay peanuts? Join RSG contributor Joe as he talks about the tablets and offers another option called Play Octopus. Would you put a tablet in your car? Let us know in the comments.

    I drive an X/XL town and Country Van. I have cold water for passengers and I also have a Roku device that mirrors my home setup, I have live tv through youtube tv, and Netflix, Hulu, Disney +, etc.. when the Roku isn’t playing, I have a screen saver with slides using photo streams providing info about me, my vehicle, entertainment available, and a personal motto with “tips are appreciated” under it. I have just over 2,500 rides in a year and half with a 5 star rating. Not full time, I average about 18-20 hours a week most weeks. My passengers appreciate what I offer.

    All I think about is transparency between the driver and passenger.I rather have a display that shows the passenger on how much the driver is getting out of the gate,and I am sure the passenger is willing to tip more,than have this shenanigans.cause in most city’s right now there is a surplus of drivers and the fares aren’t profitable for a full time driver

    I average $750 a year with my octopus tablet. I turn it on when my day starts, and I turn it off when I'm done. Anyone that says it's a scam is either lying, ignorant, or really doesn't like making extra money for nothing.

      I agree, it's not a scam. Made several hundred dollars in two months. For full time drivers it's worth it. Customers like it or can ignore it.

    DRIVER BE WARNED :For those of you that are thinking this is a good idea, picture this you have one of these tablets in your vehicle need to make a pit stop, take a bathroom break better hide that tablet, don't leave it in your vehicle overnight. These things are more headache then they are worth. I'd rather not have to deal with broken windows, having my car ransacked, filing insurance claims and replacing stolen tablets. Because let's be real your literally putting a target on your back. If you plan on doing anything like this consider the environment you live in and also whether or not you want to deal with the daily upkeep and possible headaches ahead.

    I drive around with the Lyft media tablet almost daily, all I hear is drivers can make $63 more in tips for riding around with it.... To me we should earn $100 per month, I'm sure the ride share company's paid alot of $ to get them made for their own profit...

    I get more tips with octopus in my car not to mention the 25 bucks for the 250 points. But with uber they ripping off drivers like lyft taking a lot off the top when drivers do majority of the work. It's a shame.

    • @FitnessConnect
      @FitnessConnect Год назад +4

      Indeed. Since drivers are independent contractors Uber shouldn't even be interfering in what drivers use inside their own cars to make extra revenue, the snack box company I mentioned in a post perfect example. Technically if Uber wants to advertise in drivers cars with a tablet, Uber should be paying the driver a fee no different than an advertiser paying a billboard owner.

    At first glance i saw the title as "Uber In-Car Toilets". After rereading it, ah tablets, makes more sense.

  • @truthiscensored
    @truthiscensored Год назад +1

    Just know in Marketing Advertisers pay by the CPM (Cost Per Thousand). Most CPM for Billboard is about $7 CPM. Online Display $41-45.
    Which means you will need 1000 riders to make that amount. And since Uber is charging the advertiser and not you (The driver) you only getting a small faction of that...like pennies per ride.
    NOT Worth It!

    • @truthiscensored
      @truthiscensored Год назад

      Same goes for the New Car Wrapper apps (I forgot the name of it). They ripping off the driver. I seen where drivers made about $100 per week with their car wrapped. I know tens of thousands of people seen there car wrap. So the drivers definitely getting ripped off.

    I calculated the cost to run a tablet that uses 30 watts of power running for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 4 weeks, to be $1.46. I am using my rav4 hybrid's efficiency to calculate this (~35%).

    I appreciate the earning opportunities advanced technology offers, HOWEVER; enough with the third party, advertising partnerships and revenues big tech companies are generating. First of all, what is our return on investment and costs?
    So, I pay XYZ company X dollars by chance of increasing my earnings, XYZ CO receives XX $’s for advertisement slots, app games etc… AND both companies have access to users data for future “research and development”, “consumer profiling” as well as the ability to control the market AND our economy.
    Oh and who suffers most when software is exploited, and security is breached, and users devises are exposed to viruses? Lets be honest, it can take years for tech corps be caught, legal cases resolved and victims compensated. Funny thing is, the same old internet profile data has probably been sold several times, its outdated if at all accurate.
    Im not buying it. My personal data is mine to sell, not to made vulnerable for a random chance low par returns. My odds of winning the lottery are higher than coming out unscathed. SMH
