Awwwe takes me back to when my little girl had this surgery for her closed sutures . She was almost completely fused. Also she lost a lot of blood too at only 12months old, unfortunately she needed another surgery 5months later . Vayda is 7.5 years now and a fast past fun loving hilarious and beautiful girl. With out her amazing surgeons in Adelaide Australia she would possibly be quite disabled due to pressure on the brain. I could feel every heartbreaking moment those parents were feeling while watching this , our kids are so resilient and are a real gift to us 💝
I’ve been waiting all week, I love this show!! Also, did anyone else notice that they played the baby crying when he was sleeping at 3:26? A little problem with the editing 😂 (Edited the timestamp)
Enjoy this show and the Drs are marvellous. Being an Australian I recognised the Aussie accent straight away. He is back in Australia doing great things.
How can people consider skull reconstruction as cosmetic when it's saving a kids life and letting him have a chance at growing up and having a life? Any life saving surgery should not be classed as "cosmetic surgery"
This isn’t the first video I’ve seen of this problem, so I can answer. In this case, his skull would grow to compensate for his brain, so he would have normal function. However, as he grew his skull would become more and more deformed. Because that deformity isn’t life-threatening, some people would consider this a cosmetic surgery.
All of the fissures are not sealed just the one. So his head would continue to grow front to back instead of round. So depending on how much growth there is to be done he might look as though his head was shaped like a football but nothing would happen to his brain as his skull is still able to move. Therefore it is considered cosmetic as death is not the result of doing nothing. Disfigurement is.
Tineke Williams Yes, they would. I had two boys born with Craniosynostosis, one in 1980 and one in 1991. We opted not to put our 1980 son through surgery. He’s almost 40 now, and his head is still misshapen. My 1991 son did have the exact surgery pictured here and today, at 29, his head looks normal.
I had a chranial reconstruction of sorts when I was a bit older than Robert. Mum says when I was about 3, that was a big year with major surgeries on my face, eyes and head, but nothing worked with my eyes after my retina haemorrhaged 3 weeks after my corneal graft or transplant when I was 6 months old. I lost it all, sightwise and partially, hearing wise, but for hearing, you have various different hearing aids. For eyes, there is nothing fully functioning so far as false eyes go, No batteries or microchips will simulate sight... Not yet, anyway.
The doctors are nice but some of the nurses are another story - some of them are quite rude, especially when it’s time for the child to go to theatre. Parents are worried for their kids; the last thing they need are rude nurses. Also, with kids scared and with no idea they’re being helped, why can’t one of the parents go into the or with them at least until they’re asleep?? It’s awful hearing a child scream in terror as they’re taken away from their parents!
Why have the reconstruction if it's cosmetic like has been said, I would rather my child live with a misshapen head than risk them dying. I'm not saying it to be horrible, I just don't understand, I've had 38 brain operations and had no choice, I certainly would not have cosmetic surgery
It's not completely cosmetic... His brain would develop differently than other kids'. The brain needs proper space to grow and develop. His skull structure would have no provided that. It CAN be cosmetic, but he most likely would have developmental problems with his brain.
Such brave little ones. I love shows like this. So sad we dont see programs like this on t.v. anymore.
@ 16:56 Mom's reaction, - THAT'S WHAT TRUE LOVE IS...

It was not ‘’cosmetic. It is just that this neurologist was in a plastic surgeon’s room
This is amazing
How is adorable Kareem???
I think the doctor is an Aussie , well done .
Yes he is an Aussie. Recognised our accent straight away.😁
Gosh, the technology and professionalism, if they were born early 1900’s they would not be able to be helped.

Such sweet kids :)
7 units of blood for a baby is scary, so glad he’s ok.
does anyone know if kareem did well?

His brain would not be able to grow normally. He would be mentally abnormal.
