Reason 11 is more for the users who work in other DAWs not for the core Reason users. It´s a shame that the developers don´t seem to care too much about workflow improvements and general updates. Reason still can´t export Mp3 files for example which is the standard for audio files ... The VST thing with Reason is a great idea, but it shouldn´t be the Reason for a "11" it should be more like an extra option for people who want to use Reason in other DAW like the synth Europa. Also the last update was similar. Nearly no workflow changes, only some extra instruments. I can´t see any motivation in the developers right now to improve Reason as their DAW.
Second Sun Beats exactly, I hope they don’t abandon us loyal and dedicated users, but it def is my biggest fear. I still do think it is a great idea to have “parts” of Reason available as a plugin, but I truly believe the main reason a number of ppl still use Reason is because of the instrument racks via Rewire. It’s kinda like a Catch-22. They are gonna sell a TON of plugins, but alienate their core customers with this next update
@@Mr_Cru2 I have the feeling that they are now trying to sell their Rackextensions via updates instead of investing time and money in porgramming Reason as their DAW. This Reason Suite option show us their intention I think. I wouldn´t be surprised if the next updates would mainly consist out of more Rackextensions. Maybe they didn´t sold well in the past and now they are trying to change their strategy to distribute them? However, the next update will defenetly show us where it will go ...

@@DeejayAfro However it is, I get this Upgrade and still support Reason or Reason Studios for their great product. The next over next update will show if Reason want to be a competitive DAW on the market or not.
I'm watching this a year later. I bought 11 Suite on this passed Saturday. Considering all of the extra devices it came with, I'm fine with the purchase. I only already owned both Umpf drum modules and the Drum Sequencer. That makes 13 extra devices worth around 1000 USD for 249 USD. Are there more things I would like to see? Absolutely. But I personally don't feel like I'm missing anything right now. Certainly not anything that would stop me from making music
Having said all that, if it wasn't for the Suite, I definitely would've skipped 11. I actually went from 7 to 10. Neither 8 nor 9 had anything that jumped out at me.
avace917 I feel u on that! Yeah, after having it for about 6 months now, I can def say that it is worth it just for the extra racks alone AND the ability to mute midi notes and also wrote midi notes according to the grid resolution. Didn’t think those last 2 would be much of a big deal but they have helped streamline my creation workflow a lot
Only 3 minutes into your video but just wanted to point out, in my opinion, those 3 effects from the Main Mixer were only added so you can use them in the rack so that when you use Reason as a VST in another daw, you'll have access to them because you won't otherwise.
Wilderness Void ah! Didn’t realize that was the main reason for transitioning those into individual plugins. Makes sense, but to me that also feeds my concern that the plugin will be their new focus in the distant future.
You know what the biggest insult is for me at this point bro? Because we were so loyal to Reason, we have completely missed out on amazing VSTs. All of a sudden, Reason ditched its core-users, TO BECOME A VST!!!!! I mean seriously, you really want to give your money to a company that is bluntly showing us the middle finger? I sure won't. MAYBE if they catch up in future releases I'LL CONSIDER, and even by then, I'd be so used to my modern and efficient new DAW that I won't even be excited to come back.
Karim B. Very good point! We’ve had vst support now for....like 2 or 3 years and as u said, it’s looking like they are abandoning the daw for the sake of their own vst
benja303 I didn’t really think I was in my feelings. I simply expressed disappointment that we weren’t getting more features and concern over their potential to prioritize the vst over the daw. In a way tho, I don’t think it would be wrong to take their business decision personal because it does impact me personally when it could affect my livelihood
D.O.N MUZIC bruh!!!! I remember using a Roland Fantom back in the early 2000s and it spoiled me cause I have yet to find another way to chop a sample that was as quick and easy
@@Mr_Cru2 I feel that bro nothing wrong with that I need to do the same, also they still on the fence about making reasons a aax format to use with pro tools so at the moment no pro tools usage and I feel they need to make it to where we can collaborate between reason users via the cloud or like how fl studio has the flp where anybody who has fl can open the complete full session and get working and send it back to the originator for a callab
Thanks for your point of view fam! Im using Reason since day 1..and this is the first time im not that excited about the update to 11. Automation Curves,Crossfade is cool..And like you said..Masterbus compressor on the master bus..They need to make eq with automated gain option:)
@@Mr_Cru2 Yeah the Izotope stuff rocks! Using the Synaps GQ-7 Graphic Eq with gain automation. Great Eq. I produced/mixed & mastered all the songs on my channel. Just refamiliarizing myself with what has been going on with Reason, as I haven't touched it in years (6 is what I have)... Funny that there's so much focus on VST's now. The main reason they took so long to support them was that VST's were notorious years ago for creating system instability. Reason's response after some years was to create Reason Extensions, which TBH, lent to their stability claims, because it just worked. Of course, in the long run, there are SO MANY VST's out there, you had to figure that they'd eventually have to give in, considering how much of the industry is using them... and that leads me to where I am. There are so many options out there, and as an old school buff, I'm totally excited about the fact that Roland has made their old school offerings available digitally - but they only support VST 3.6, which Reason still doesn't for somehow. So yeah, maybe they just need someone with some more expertise in that area, but I certainly hope that they don't give up on just listening to feedback and progressing the platform while still adding industry standard support to it.
Cool video, I share many of your views/opinions. I see why they made they made the Mixer Processors into Rack Devices, it's so you can use them inside the plugin version within another DAW.
You're absolutely right about them focusing on the plugin rather than the daw. I also think they are focusing on making reason more like a company like Native Instruments. I think going forward, their focus is gonna be on selling instruments and effects rather than workin on making the full daw better.
If they do that, they will be just like any other VST maker, maybe a little more flexible because of the rack. There are many "sick" VST makers out there to compete with. Reason's strength right now, in my opinion, is that you can route anything to anything else, on any channel, because they make both the DAW and the instruments. No other DAW + VST instrument combo gives you that flexibility. Also, Reason instruments are more CPU friendly than any VST instruments, because of the VST plugin framework adds extra performance overhead.
Chief rocks whoa!!! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽I reached one ☝️! I hate that I have to say these things about the daw I have come to love so much, but its unfortunately disappointing
I feel like this for the money reason 11 cost I should be seeing more rack modules, a larger instrument and loop library, export to mp3 +other formats , there should be a shit load of more tools and of course 3rd party vst plug in capabilities . Every other daw does this and has been for years. reason is my choice as a daw I still run r5 I've tried the newer ones but to me I don't see the need to upgrade yet I'm not spending the money till more is added to the package .
Sadly, i think this trend will continue. I did enjoy the workflow features, but truthfully, i think they continue to add racks and effects to the packages to alleviate the fact that they are not really adding much to the actual DAW
Great video! Just wanted to address Beatstars uploads. I just started on there last month. They take wav file uploads, and looks like they convert to MP3 for you. I saw advice of needing to convert your own MP3 files before uploading, so I don't know if this is a recent change since I just got on board.
Jason Kartz yoooo!!! U are 100% correct about that! I hadn’t realized that and I’m guessing that happened back when they updated the website! That is dope!!! Still though, I’d like to have he option to export as MP3 for my google drive folder that I use to send beats out
Mr Cru2 Totally agree with you. That should be a feature regardless. Just wanted to save you some extra work. I was doing that for my first few uploads until I realized I didn’t need to convert the files.
What a fantastic video, very detailed description of your thoughts with Reason 11, I have to agree with you on the notation editor and the video feature where u can sync your music to video, I thought that would be one of the major additions as well as the notation editor, I mean, I was using Cubase on an Atari ST way back in the 90's and that has always had a notation editor, the pointless features as you documented quite well were the additions of the channel EQ, compressor and master bus compressor, what was the point of developing that when it's available on the console, absolutely pointless, having used the VST plugin on Ableton as a reason beta tester I can say it is a breath of fresh air and should be kept and worked on to fix bugs etc... the curved automation is a feature which should have been brought in way before 10, maybe on Reason 8 or something like that, even earlier, the ability to mute midi notes is also a good idea, as is the multiple notes feature, crossfading audio is needed but should have been added earlier. Great video and subscribed. :) Mike
Thanks fam! I appreciate the insight even tho I am a year late.I have since switched to FL....it just made sense to have a DAW that already has most of those features. I do know that they had to include the Channel Racks in Reason 11 for the sake of being able to have those available in the plugin because the plugin does not have a mixer channel. The only one i ever used in Reason was the Master Compressor because unlike the compressor in the mixer channel, it had an input knob which was very nice to be able to use. At this point tho...i am pretty sure i am done with Reason. Unless they make MASSIVE changes with the update, i doubt i will ever go back.
Thanks! That video helped me alot. It strengthened my thoughts about the update. I don't use other DAWs for now so I won't use the plug in at all. I think I'll wait to the next one, hoping they'll offer something more attractive.
@@Mr_Cru2 I didn't get the chance to dive deep into this, I don't like where this is going and I hope they'll continue to update and invest in their DAW regardless of the Reason+ thing. I'm not getting it. I don't need to. I'm not producing or mixing for a living yet, and even if I did, having endless options for sounds and devices complicates things. I don't need all that. If there's a good instrument that I actually need, I'll buy it. Most people are angry about it, if Reason studios are smart, they will change their ways.
Mr Cru2 I feel you. Imma stay down too. We just gotta stay on them and speak out hoping they tighten up. Right now I use maschine and seroto sample in reason to work with samples. It works. But if that power was all inside reason, it would make it more streamlined
@@Mr_Cru2 I feel the same, the've been working hard on killing rewire and making Reason as a VST plugin, but their sequencer has been stagnating. Hopefully this will get more people onboard and provide funding for improving the existing features. I'm skipping 11, and waiting for 12. If the sequencer performance issues / features don't improve, I may reconsider. By performance I mean, scrolling around, zooming, etc is very laggy on a high definition screen, which is pretty standard on most laptops nowadays. I can't stand the lag. No other popular DAW has this problem.
Already a Reason user? You can upgrade straight to Reason Suite for just $249/€249 when Reason 11 is released. Announcing Scenic Hybrid Instrument New instrument: Scenic Hybrid Instrument is a cinematic dream machine of atmospheric sounds and powerful performance controls. Scenic is included in Reason Suite and will also be sold separately on its release on September 25. I think you missed that point !!! when you upgrade you get Scenic hybrid with the 16 more RE's
Deejay Afro ur right, I did skip out on taking about that! Maybe after I upgrade I’ll talk about it again, but I did hear about how there is no discount for ppl who have already purchased the racks included in the upgrade. I get that it’s still cheaper than buying them all individually, but it just feels like a 💵 grab. I’m already going to be paying over $100 to upgrade...it would’ve been nice to include a free rack in that too. I could be wrong, but I started in Reason 4 and I can’t remember an upgrade where we didn’t get a free new instrument rack included
Been using reason since 2.0. Pissed off at the sheer amount of money that has been spent on RE's to then see that they are free later on. Reason has just been a massive money grab. On the cusp of leaving reason behind after this upgrade and going ableton.
Manler Records I feel ur pain man! That is one of the main reasons why I never purchased a rack extension. I just always had the feeling that they would integrate plug-ins like every other DAW
Cassie G IF there even is a 12👀 then again, if their main plan is to transition into just being a plugin, I doubt they’ll pull the rug out from us in less than like 10yrs
@@Mr_Cru2 I may invest in Ableton Live just so my eggs are not all in one basket. But I'm sure they will continue to support Reason. It would be nice if splice officially supported Reason, I have no idea why not.
I’m also skipping this one. I’ve skipped 7,8,9 then eventually got 10. Gonna stay content with 10 for now. Multi midi clock is the most valuable feature I could ask for in the future, for my hardware analog synths. That’s all I really need Reason to give me. Other then that I just want more instruments from them. Reason 10 is locked in my home studio for while.
Nice video. you make several valid points. I also think 11 should have been a 10.5 update. BUT.....MP3 is obsolete technology. Let it go! but like I said. Nice Video.
Terry Moore 👍🏽 Thanks Terry! It def should’ve been an update, not enough of a significant change to justify a new version. And I hear u, MP3 is goin the way of 💿, but I feel like it’d be a different kinda bitterness on my part if they had it and then took it away with version 10, but ive been on it since 4 and we’ve never had that option, and back then it was SUPER necessary for putting music online
Exactly what I've been saying all along! This was a PERFECT 10.5 update (especially after 10.4??!!! since when do they stop at a ".4" release instead of a ".5") I seriously can't understand..And if they marketed it a 10.5 instead, core reason users like myself wouldn't have gone that much bananas on this weak major update...
Agree, completely. Honest Reason user since version 4. Should have been an update. Upgrade to 11 for VST aspects, then buy a cheap version of Live! Winner!
Exactly! but, i have since moved on to FL Studio....and i rarely ever use the plugin cause it is a CPU hog!!!! Oftentimes cause FL to crash, but then again, FL is very unstable
Loving Tracktion Waveform, big updates yearly, great price, rack like FL Studio allows any routing, track freeze, chord track, etc. Anyone thinking about a switch check them out.
Got the same fears regarding the DAW improvement taking a back seat and this crazy upgrade which will simply make other DAW users say ..great I don’t have to use reason anymore ... just the plugin .. big disappointment ..
colin dias yeah, that is a sad reality that could possibly come true. Reason Studios is def gonna have to do something big to reassure their core customers
The best feature on Raeson is ReGroove, of course it has more things like Refills and rack extensions, but nothing like Regroove in other DAWs that I know of. Reason never crashed me. Stable and solid as a rock. I don't know how it will be with VST. For what they want most, I need "Combinator" to have more knobs, really? 4 knobs ... How many times I had to use 4 Combinator to create amazing things. "ECF-42 Envelope Controlled Filter" is not in the Reason Intro edition, the most basic. For 80€ you would have the best VST Rack, but without the possibility of using your FxVST inside the Rack and without the ECF-42 Filter it limits you a lot, and is made on purpose so that you buy the standard version or Rack extension. THOR could be used as an audio FX ... but something as basic as a filter? I feel insulted. Buying the standard version does not make sense if you are going to want "more things" that are in the Suite, buying devices separately is more expensive than buying the Suite. I could already buy REASON in a Ren-to-own way ... I have seen some video about that they bought Rack extension for version 10 and then in version 11 they included such devices, nothing happy, really. What will happen with the next version? Will the same thing happen with any rack extension you have purchased for version 11 or earlier? Reason 11 Intro 79€ Reason 11 Upgrade for Intro/Lite 269€ Reason 11 Suite Upgrade 249€ Total 597€ , Reason 11 Suite 549€ I think it would be more worth buying hardware that Reason 11 Lite gives and then upgrade. You have to think very well if it is worth updating and that Rack extension is bought, because in the long run the investment made in Reason is very expensive. I feel safer buying a VST that won't leave me chained to Reason than buying a Rack Extension that will later be included in a new version of Reason. Sadly, they discontinued the Intro version in an attempt to get ppl to buy into Reason+...which i think is a dumb move that seems to alienate their core users
Seems to me the reason that Reason Studios made the individual components of the mixer available to process instruments inside of reason rack when you’re using it as a VST in another DAW. Additionally, These SSL type EQs, compressors can be used with say a Combinator scenario. Where using a full SSL channel strip would take up a unneeded CPU cycles Why is it an issue if another DAW had a feature years ago and you’re just getting it in Reason. Either you can use it or you can’t. Does that mean you don’t want the feature because they’re only getting it now in 2019? Long time users will recognize that Reason’s editing system has always been linear based so when they re-wrote the audio engine/graphic resources they moved to a vector-based editing system, and it takes time to implement these features systemwide
To answer your question, no, it doesn't mean that we DON'T want the feature, it just further confirms that we have lacked features which we have been asking for for YEARS and then the features that we do get are still pretty outdated. The general point is that Reason is lightyears behind other DAWs in terms of workflow features that would immensely speed one's process up. I have since moved over to FL and I can honestly confirm that FL's workflow is top tier compared to Reason's. I can create and mix a lot quicker. Now, of course, its not for everyone, but I have def noticed my beats sounding better and since i moved over and i would chalk that up to the tools that FL gives me access to.
Yes Reason should have mp3, but in the meantime the quickest path is Audacity, or from Ozone after mastering. My pet peeve is still the piss poor MIDI support, still can only send sync out ONE MIDI port! After you have MIDI in from external device or a sequencer track there's no routing, splitting/joining MIDI, or any way to distribute MIDI streams from Players to multiple devices unless they're all stacked into a single combinator. And of course no multichannel input support for VST, and no MIDI output support AT ALL. For a DAW that prided itself on all the crazy creativity enabled by the rack system and arbitrary audio/cv wiring, they seem wilfully blind to any creative possibilities MIDI might offer. It's frustrating. I'm not sold on the 11 upgrade, too little for the cash, even though I actually like the rack. For me Suite is not doing it, I have about 1/3 of the stuff already, and for the rest, I have alternatives at least as good. I am ambivalent....
TheRealWinsletFan I feel u man, but I still have hope they can turn things around and bring more of those things in future Upgrades. I have to think that financial resources have always been a key factor in Reason being behind in the times with some of the features it still lacks and hopefully Reason 11 plugin will bring enough of that in to help us core users maintain a modern daw
Maybe they will soon. We dont know what's said in those board rooms. I highly suspect Vst3 support will be implemented after the top of 2020 if not before. @@ruff2007
We already heard about the "end" of the world" when Reason 10 started using VSTs. Ohhh the "horror" some Die-Hard Reason users said. Now, becoming a "VST" as others have mentioned here is a good thing, as it will bring even more users than Propellerhead (now Reason Studios) has ever had before IMO. More users mean more money for future support. and thats also a good thing. I do not agree that this move has dumped its core users, what it did was open up a whole nother world for its core users to explore in. Yes its a change, but I think this change is good for all. And there are effects in 11 (and are unique to Reason) that other DAW users will LOVE to use, not to mention the synths!
GotMilk Duds I understand ur point, but I kinda see it like this; if I am a Pro Tools user and now I can enjoy the best aspect of Reason within my own daw, then what is going to compel me to abandon, or even utilize Reason? I’m sure in theory, giving other daw users a taste of what Reason can do will be appealing, but I think we’d be hard pressed to actually think a significant amount of ppl will actually become Reason users over a VST. And I gotta staunchly disagree that ppl thought Reason was over when they began VST support. If anything, VST support is probably a significant in factor in keeping Reason users from transitioning to other daws. That was their biggest victory in YEARS
I've been running a really old version of Reason, and I've learned some. So i'm thinking about buying Reason 11, but then so many trashes Reason.. so i'm thinking maybe I should get Ableton instead? Is reason really worth getting? The only thing keeping me for buying another program than reason is that I allready know it a bit (no expert by any means) and I like the sounds etc..
Hefnaheimer honestly, there was a time when I switched to Logic for a few years and I wish I hadn’t. I too had already known Reason very well and was able to work quicker in it. In my opinion, stick with Reason. The jump from 4 to 7 was HUGE because it added audio recording, and the jump to 10 was crazy because we finally got vst support. It’s not a bad DAW at all!! I love it, I just wish we would finally get some of the features that we have been asking for for so long
@@Mr_Cru2 Alright man, thanks for the answer. What are the things people are missing/requesting at this point? Something I feel missing at this point is a more fast way to program drums. I use the reddrum and route it to kong to get the kong sounds, but I feel it's a bit slow doing it that way and the way you program the drums. I've seen for example FL has a easier layout. Maybe reason has a better drum-machine at this point tho? I have reason 5 so it's a really old version. Thanks!
Hefnaheimer I’ve actually got another tutorial about a Production Template that I use. It has def streamlined my process. I also have another video coming this week about the in depth features of Redrum that might be helpful
Hefnaheimer for me, exporting in MP3, we are also missing vst3 support, the ability to use Reason and incorporate video so u can edit music for a video, and a score sheet (I.e. convert midi into actual notes). Outside of those things, I feel like Reason is on par with most other DAWs
Hi I have a question I keep trying to load the reason rack into fl studio but I get no sounds but nothing comes out, but the effect work with no problem. Ive tried changing the sound out put but get nothing can you help what am I doing wrong getting no sounds out the reason rack.
funny enough! I recently switched to FL as well and I just made a video showing you how to use the Scales and Chords player Rack. Should be the same process
Actually reason 11 as a vst is not bad for studio one users. Presonus ditched the CS18ai control surface. To me it's been a dream to use that controller with reason. They never created 3rd party daw control for it. So this actually adds reason to studio one and can be fully integrated.
Chris Thomas I feel u! The vst IS a great thing for users of other daws, but as great as that is, it seems like they didn’t put the same amount of effort into the actual daw. I can’t imagine what other daw users are gonna be able to start creating now!🔥🔥🔥
I been using Reason for a while. Now without the reason suite and the rack plugin. I doubt I would have upgraded. But this is a great deal for any reason user that master tracks in another daw
Sir Robert Robinson Dang! I didn’t even think about meta-data. I guess because I don’t use it as often in order for that to be a necessity for me, but I do know that logic has it I’m not sure about other daws though
@@Mr_Cru2 Now check this out. They did a whole new logo so that means that there is a whole new splash screen and song info window. How much of a problem would it have been to expand that part and even make more room for song lyrics,ISRC codes...smdh
Not really...4K is not going to help me create music quicker or better. It’s just a nice little addition, but at the moment it seems to be their big “standout new feature” which kind of proves my point

I use Wondershare Steaming audio recorder to record live .It saves as mp3 . You should also get VIRTUAL DJ IT IS FREE AND YOU CAN RECORD MIXES OF YOUR REASON RECORDING WITH IT TO MAKE EASY REMIXES.
I used to have Virtual DJ cause I had a controller that I was trying to learn scratching on...looking back, the only Reason i ended up getting Suite was cause of the extra racks, but ive since moved on to FL Studio

Niels Christiansen and honestly, outside of not being able to record, it was holding its own against the powerhouse daws like Logic and Pro Tools Back then
I would say yes, but they recently discontinued it because they have a subscription plan that allows you to use Reason with all of the native racks that Reaon Studios has developed
So now my go to DAW,,is a plugin??,,so i could move to Ableton and still use Reason..??,,that don't make much sense to me,,what about the producers who use Reason as their main DAW…auto cross fades good, but thats about it for me,,,disappointed.
I don't think it's a good marketing ploy to say that you can use their plugins inside someone else's DAW. To me that would be the last thing I'd announce and it would be in the 11.5 version.
Geoff Keeton it’s a great move for ppl who use other daws, and who knows, maybe this could be the thing that brings more money into Reason so that we can finally get the features we have been asking for. It’s kind of Catch-22
@@Mr_Cru2 I agree. It's a way to bring lost Reason users back to the Reason rack at least, and to get new users hooked on Reason instruments. They used to have a larger market share in the past, but they've fallen behind. Fierce competition out there. It may also be a stalling tactic, to keep Reason users from abandoning it completely while they slowly fix the sequencer. :) This "Reason as a VST" is a lot of work actually, so they'll be spending a lot of resources on it.
All Propellerhead did was help enhance the users who use other DAWs workflow and creativity while short-changing ang price gauge their core fan base. I had Reason for a minute but its the only main DAW ive used so this is disappointing. I get it business stand point but its a slap in the face none-the-less....its another example on the cons of too much convenience.
Actually as a Reason 11 suite user it was worth it to me to upgrade because I didn’t have a lot of those rack devices that I wanted. The pricing worked out for me personally. But I must say the added benefit of of being able to explore other DAW’s and have the familiarity of the rack to help with the learning curve has been amazing. Got beat map for free too! Maybe you’re waiting on 12 which is cool too. If 11 was my last upgrade I would be very happy. I suspect it won’t be.
The Reason why they made RE's out of the: Master Bus Compressor, Channel Dynamics and Channel Eq is because they wanted them to be available to the new Rack Vst. Propellerheads already has your money and future money they only care now about the new money coming in, so they were made Re's for the new users sake.. forget you.. lol
MEC D yeah, someone else had pointed out the reason for those new effects. That makes sense and I can respect that, yet it still fuels my suspicions of them focusing more on their plugin and less on their daw. I hope they prove me wrong tho 🤞
@@Mr_Cru2 a little bit of a learning curve what it has way more functionality especially in the sequencer I learned it by watching all the RUclips tutorials
@@Mr_Cru2 FL studio came across to me as being super clunky to my workflow, that's coming from Reason where my ideas become reality much quicker. The devices also feel better in Reason.
Cassie G I might do a video on that soon!!! I fell in love with Reason because it was visually inspiring. Ur right tho, my ideas are easier to flesh out in Reason
Mr Cru2 I tried Ableton Live and the workflow just didn’t work for me. If I were to ditch Reason, I would use FL Studio to make beats, then export the stems into Pro Tools, Studio One or Logic...all of which have the ability to export mp3...being able to export mp3 from the DAW I just mixed my track in is so convenient...it really is a pain in the ass to export a wav file just to open another program to import it in then to export as mp3. I love Reason but damn, the future doesn’t seem too bright.
The company formerly known as Propellerhead’s business model seem to have gone the route of Apples. As in...people don’t know what they want until you give it to them. Only problem is, IMO that strategy seems to work for iOS devices. ..not DAWS.
not worth it for a couple of effects at least throw some of those players in there. Plus I can even use plugin mode cause I have to update ableton anyway, not for me right now.
Jonothan Rogers in previous versions u could mute REGIONS, but now we can actually mute individual notes. I got to play around with it last week and it was def dope
I agree that it is behind the times, however...and this is a BIG HOWEVER, I think that it have more than enough features for someone to make good music on. I once switched from Reason to Logic thinking that all those extra features it had would make my music better, but in the, it didn’t matter.
What they did was so bad for the long time users of Reason, those who only used Reason to make music. After starving folks for over a decade without modern improvement the first they now say F all of you, go get Albeton or cubase if you want a real DAW and VST our s#%t in it lol. But Users of the big DAWs know that VSTs really run circles of most of what Reason offers, including the RE shop where developers had one hand tied behind their back become of the limitations of the format. I know where my $400 would to to. Arturia, NI or Spectrasonics. Not Reason. But thats ok, "reason studios" is going to get a taste of what real heat feels like because Live, cubase, FL Studio, logic, bitwig users expect constant improvements and fixes for their software and I don't think Reason Studios is going to be able to handle that. They just brought curved draw in automation in 2019 lol. Its what got them in constant conflict with their core users. When I went to their home page I couldn't believe this program was being advertised INSIDE ableton Live with gusto. That is just throwing in the towel right before bankruptcy to me.
I feel you 100% I will say, that since the announcement of Reason+, i have since moved to FL Studio and bruh! FL lacks very little in terms of music production (but I gotta give to to Reason when it comes to working with audio cause the fact that i used to be able to Self Contain a session was HUGE and i do miss that). Using Reason inside FL is ok...but Reason tends to crash my FL sessions when i use it. I do have Omnisphere so I rarely use Reason for anything other than the Players. If i didn't already have the Reason Plugin as a result of purchasing 11, i doubt i would've gotten it
Your fear about plug-in vs DAW development is real, unfortunately this was always there reality. That's why basic features that other DAWs have they lack, because there focus was always RE's and instruments
SkunkGrinder I’ll probably wait several month to upgrade. I’m sure it’ll be buggy right off the bat and hopefully by then, they will provide an update with “better” features
@@Mr_Cru2 I am a beta tester, It's not buggy at all ... I've tried many times to bring it back to point zero, impossible ... works better then 10 it's all what I can say !!!
Deejay Afro well that is super encouraging to hear. I have a friend who is also a beta tester but all he could tell me was the things on my wishlist that wasn’t included. I’ll still probably wait a month or two to upgrade and perhaps hope for a Christmas discount
Mr Cru2 well, it’s an incremental stuff that’s going to happen! Also to be a beta tester you need to read the introduction and there’s a link where you can apply to !
The constant gnashing of teeth about not being able to export to MP3 makes no sense to me. It's generally considered good practice to export to WAV anyway to keep a full quality version of an export around anyway. Also, converting to MP3 using something like the batch exporter in Audacity takes almost no time at all (I certainly don't get why you're using Logic to encode MP3s, that seems crazy). End of the day, other than "they can do it, why can't I?", this seems like a lot of whinging for what is arguably a nothing problem. Bitwig doesn't do it either and it's literally never felt like an issue for me.
Marc Losper I initially made a habit of exporting to MP3 back when I wanted to have my tracks on my phone so that they wouldn’t take up a ton of space. Nowadays I keep a folder of beats on my Dropbox and for the sake of space, MP3 is preferable to me, especially when I wanna send stuff for ppl to critique before uploading a final version. I stress, however, that these are not features that I hear EVERYONE complain about, they are just features I appreciated during my time using Logic like 5 yrs ago
steppa money I remember when they added Blocks and I was like “ok, that’s a dope feature that is super useful. Never asked for it, but glad that I got it.” Now, I use blocks all the time. I’m sure some of these workflow feature COULD turn out the way of Blocks, but...I dunno 🤷🏽♂️ I guess I just expected more
@@Mr_Cru2 theres always something useful in these updates. sorry i mean "new versions". Fully automating the nnxt or just adding an all round better zoom function to the sequencer, being able to loop a section while your song plays out,mp3 encoding. would all just be re coding too. But could add a much higher ability and work flow instead of running reason and another daw at the same time. I got loads of ram but i like to leave some not in use.
Since they obviously don't want to update the daw itself, to make it equal to other daws, I'm glad to have the Reason Rack to be able to use with other daws without rewire. If it truly works I may buy some RE's...something I've never done before because I never had faith in propellerhead.

Looks like its time for me to get used to another more dedicated DAW..
You are taking business decisions as a personal attack. Propeller-head is a corporation. Get out your feelings
benja303 I didn’t really think I was in my feelings. I simply expressed disappointment that we weren’t getting more features and concern over their potential to prioritize the vst over the daw. In a way tho, I don’t think it would be wrong to take their business decision personal because it does impact me personally when it could affect my livelihood
Yeah man, first time i also feel like that.. it's a shame for the hardcore reason users!
😤 and... In 2019, there's no updated sampler with the ability to quickly manipulate slices
D.O.N MUZIC bruh!!!! I remember using a Roland Fantom back in the early 2000s and it spoiled me cause I have yet to find another way to chop a sample that was as quick and easy

I agree reason 11 should have just been an update How is it you don't have individual tracks for kong?
kb productions oh I def know how to do that, I just don’t use Kong very often. I’m just too attached to Redrum because of the sequencer capabilities.

Sadly, with the news of +, i am convinced they have stopped listening to their core user base, which is why I have switched to FL Studio
But i will say this, you are 100% right about the stability issue because FL is SUPER buggy compared to the consistency that I remember with Reason
Cool video, I share many of your views/opinions. I see why they made they made the Mixer Processors into Rack Devices, it's so you can use them inside the plugin version within another DAW.
PROFESSA KAOS yeah, someone else made the point to me and I realized that makes sense.
You're absolutely right about them focusing on the plugin rather than the daw. I also think they are focusing on making reason more like a company like Native Instruments. I think going forward, their focus is gonna be on selling instruments and effects rather than workin on making the full daw better.
JoshAllen702 yep! I’m fearful but if or when I make the change to another daw I’ll be ready
@@han1218 -- the CPU friendly argument is getting very long in the tooth in 2020. It did have some merit twenty years ago.
I agree with everything you mentioned about this reason update
Jason Kartz 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Those compressor n eq things are for those who are going to use reason rack as vst in other daws. Its definitely a game changer.p
Yeah, i eventually realized that they needed to do that for the sake of the rack plugin
1yr later....how do you feel about the news regarding Reason+
@@Mr_Cru2 I didn't get the chance to dive deep into this, I don't like where this is going and I hope they'll continue to update and invest in their DAW regardless of the Reason+ thing. I'm not getting it. I don't need to.
I'm not producing or mixing for a living yet, and even if I did, having endless options for sounds and devices complicates things. I don't need all that. If there's a good instrument that I actually need, I'll buy it.
Most people are angry about it, if Reason studios are smart, they will change their ways.
Reason is really letting it's community down.
D.O.N MUZIC ima stay loyal to Reason for the time being but the appeal of jumping back to Logic is real
Omg are yall slow....you can export as mp3

I can't upgrade myself. Even going up to ten seemed flimsy. No new exciting FX devices. No new synths. Meh...
I may skip this one and grab R12. I skipped R8 because it was a bit underwhelming also.
R12 will remove the sequencer and mixer lol.
Nice video. you make several valid points.
Winner!
I instead got a cheap version of FL studio 😉
THX! I share your worries about the future of the Reason DAW. Hard-core Reason fans don´t need the plug-in
Exactly! but, i have since moved on to FL Studio....and i rarely ever use the plugin cause it is a CPU hog!!!! Oftentimes cause FL to crash, but then again, FL is very unstable
Loving Tracktion Waveform, big updates yearly, great price, rack like FL Studio allows any routing, track freeze, chord track, etc.
Anyone thinking about a switch check them out.
I recently switched to FL Studio myself

Reason 11 Upgrade for Intro/Lite 269€
Reason 11 Suite Upgrade 249€

You have to think very well if it is worth updating and that Rack extension is bought, because in the long run the investment made in Reason is very expensive.
Where using a full SSL channel strip would take up a unneeded CPU cycles
Why is it an issue if another DAW had a feature years ago and you’re just getting it in Reason.
I have to think that financial resources have always been a key factor in Reason being behind in the times with some of the features it still lacks and hopefully Reason 11 plugin will bring enough of that in to help us core users maintain a modern daw
no vst3 support.but they have vst3 as an plugin.don't make since.
ruff2007 to quote the great philosopher known as Kanye West...”How, Sway?!?!”
I think its a hint that VST3 will ve coming to Reason. Maybe as a point update after 11.
the vst3 is ready as a reason vst3.why wait till another update when they could of did it with this update.don't make sense.peace.
Maybe they will soon. We dont know what's said in those board rooms. I highly suspect Vst3 support will be implemented after the top of 2020 if not before. @@ruff2007
I was wrong! 😂😂😂
@@Mr_Cru2 Cool. Subbed! What are the missing features in reason which many are requesting tho?
Hefnaheimer for me, exporting in MP3, we are also missing vst3 support, the ability to use Reason and incorporate video so u can edit music for a video, and a score sheet (I.e. convert midi into actual notes). Outside of those things, I feel like Reason is on par with most other DAWs
MP3 export... agree
Sadly, they implemented this way too late...ive since moved on to FL
I have Reason 9.5. I really don't want to upgrade. I just want a couple of the new instruments. Like that Stum and Frickion.
Not familiar with Stum, but I know Friktion is not included as part of the Suite instruments.
@@Mr_Cru2 Man, just hate I have to upgrade to get these instrument .
Hi I have a question I keep trying to load the reason rack into fl studio but I get no sounds but nothing comes out,
but the effect work with no problem.
Awesome review dude, thanks for this one lol
You are welcome 🙌
Still no export to mp3 or ACC! this is long over due.Meta data tags...this a major problem for a DAW.
Sir Robert Robinson apparently too difficult
@@Mr_Cru2 LOL
export mp3 now...are you ready for 12 4k HIDPI?
Not really...4K is not going to help me create music quicker or better. It’s just a nice little addition, but at the moment it seems to be their big “standout new feature” which kind of proves my point
I use reason 4 and damn no mp3 in reason 11 all bad I'm getting fl studio 20
It actually does have mp3 export😒 But you’re missing out on the rack in fl 20
🤫 I recently switched over to FL
Download the 30 day trial of 11 that is what I did .Thanks For the video . i agree with all of you points . It should have been a free upgrade to current owners . They are just greedy .
Quote from Beatstars” how to upload a beat”
“click the "Un-Tagged WAV or MP3" button and click the "Select" button next to the applicable WAV or MP3 file you previously uploaded”.
Minimum Requirements
WAV: 44.1khz, 16-bit or 32-bit, Stereo
MP3: 320kbps, Stereo (Preferred) to 128kbps, Stereo (Minimum)
Ron Edwards yeah man, someone else pointed that out to me. But I also keep a Dropbox folder of my most recent beats in MP3 form. If I only use high quality wavs that folder would fill up pretty quick. I get that it doesn’t matter to everyone, but it matters to me and this video is just me expressing my thoughts about what we are getting with the update
Mr Cru2 MultCloud, a free cloud storage manager, which can put multiple cloud drives into one for managing files and transferring files across cloud drives safely. Just sayin🙂
Ron Edwards WHOA!!! Imma have to check that out! That would be immensely useful
Mr Cru2 you’re welcome 🙏🏾🙏🏾🤗
A little like me. I was introduced to Reason 4 and stuck with it
Niels Christiansen and honestly, outside of not being able to record, it was holding its own against the powerhouse daws like Logic and Pro Tools Back then
Thx for sharing I agree also I feel salty on this upgrade
BMAN 🧂🧂🧂🧂
Great video! Is Reason 11 Intro worth it?
I would say yes, but they recently discontinued it because they have a subscription plan that allows you to use Reason with all of the native racks that Reaon Studios has developed
MP3 support isn’t important, it’s quality is inferior on every level
Mat Edwards as I said, I understand not everyone uses MP3, but it is a format I use regularly so it is important to me.
So now my go to DAW,,is a plugin??,,so i could move to Ableton and still use Reason..??,,that don't make much sense to me,,what about the producers who use Reason as their main DAW…auto cross fades good, but thats about it for me,,,disappointed.
Promethious B I think u we both share the same sentiments with the rest of the core Reason-user community. Hopefully Reason Studios fixes this
I don't think it's a good marketing ploy to say that you can use their plugins inside someone else's DAW.
Victorious7 Right! The fears that we reason users are dealing with is not one that any loyal propellerhead fan should have to deal with
Actually as a Reason 11 suite user it was worth it to me to upgrade because I didn’t have a lot of those rack devices that I wanted.
Just export song as mp3 and choose the dropdown
Jonothan Rogers I believe that was added in the update
The Reason why they made RE's out of the: Master Bus Compressor, Channel Dynamics and Channel Eq is because they wanted them to be available to the new Rack Vst. Propellerheads already has your money and future money they only care now about the new money coming in, so they were made Re's for the new users sake.. forget you.. lol
MEC D yeah, someone else had pointed out the reason for those new effects. That makes sense and I can respect that, yet it still fuels my suspicions of them focusing more on their plugin and less on their daw. I hope they prove me wrong tho 🤞
The writing is on the wall Ableton Live for me it's like propellerhead just gave up
TREES30349 how do like Ableton? Have u used any other daws before? I think if I were to switch, it would be to FL studio
Only problem is, IMO that strategy seems to work for iOS devices. ..not DAWS.
bEASToUTtHEbOX very good point! Didn’t think to notice the similarities between Apple but that is very true
Just seen you on IG.
Dominique Gaines ayyeee!!!! That’s wassup my man! Welcome to the channel!
not worth it for a couple of effects at least throw some of those players in there. Plus I can even use plugin mode cause I have to update ableton anyway, not for me right now.
I have since moved to FL and tbh, Reason is far better as a plugin than it is a DAW
You can always mute midi notes....where have y'all been
Jonothan Rogers in previous versions u could mute REGIONS, but now we can actually mute individual notes. I got to play around with it last week and it was def dope
reason so behind for a all-around daw......even production compared to studio one..but i still love reasons rack concept smh
I agree that it is behind the times, however...and this is a BIG HOWEVER, I think that it have more than enough features for someone to make good music on. I once switched from Reason to Logic thinking that all those extra features it had would make my music better, but in the, it didn’t matter.
Also, I agree that the whole freedom u have with the rack is the one thing that Reason really has going for it over any other DAW
@@Mr_Cru2 I agree but for people like me who produce, post production, mix and master artist especially mastering a album its missing alot
@@Mr_Cru2 check this out ruclips.net/video/Ue-080tgGmw/видео.html
Yahshua Yahudah Ben Yisreal I can respect that. Their workflow is def not designed for post production stuff.
I feel you 100%
I will say, that since the announcement of Reason+, i have since moved to FL Studio and bruh!
If i didn't already have the Reason Plugin as a result of purchasing 11, i doubt i would've gotten it
My bad Reason ST 100 STRUM.
?
It's directed towards the non users so they can use it. I don't see the point. I think it's the worst upgrade yet. I won't be upgrading.
D_S_ C a lot of ppl are sharing ur sentiment.
Your fear about plug-in vs DAW development is real, unfortunately this was always there reality.
That's why basic features that other DAWs have they lack, because there focus was always RE's and instruments
dualidentity I guess it’s nice to know I’ll at least still have all my custom presets if or when they make that final call
I will not be upgrading. It is So underwhelming 😒
Deejay Afro How did you become a beta tester by the way?
They did some re coding and its a new version. Lol
steppa money I remember when they added Blocks and I was like “ok, that’s a dope feature that is super useful.
Nope!!
My thoughts have changed since...11 Suite was a good upgrade, but only if you didn't already have the bonus rack extensions.
REASON HAS LOST IT!!!!!!!
Yup! I did eventually upgrade to Suite, but only because I didn't have the plugins they were offering.
Since they obviously don't want to update the daw itself, to make it equal to other daws, I'm glad to have the Reason Rack to be able to use with other daws without rewire. If it truly works I may buy some RE's...something I've never done before because I never had faith in propellerhead.
Michael Hawkins good point, that’s prolly another angle they are trying to come from in an effort to push more rack ext on users🤔💭
