It's meant to keep the kids busy for longer than an hour, and the worlds are surprisingly big... Plus all the interactivity can make it hard to see what stuff actually is useful. (And ofcourse they arent paying much attention, cause the thing in the drain probably requires the shrink machine which already was Arin's idea, just at the wrong time)
It'll get worse in the 3rd game, which supports multiple playthroughs as you can to a limited degree, choose where the key items are located (and thus change what sequence of puzzles are needed to acquire them). There's a bug where some combinations could be unwinnable but I believe ScummVM (which the Steam copies of the games use) includes fixes for this.
Fun fact: I had a fear of storms when I was little, and this game actually helped little ol me get over this fear way back when! Shout out Mom for making me play this (you also made me obsessed with computer games, so thanks for that, too)

As someone who’s played this game for years I’m almost POSITIVE. The pieces are always in the same place the first playthrough. Then each subsequent playthrough one piece gets moved until all 4 are in their alt locations. It’s a weird system I’ve never seen recreated in others

This and Freddy Fish 2 are my favorite point and clicks. I played them so much as a kid. And specifically with those two Humongous games you could play them multiple times since the solutions and items you needed to find changed every time you played. How crazy is that! A kid could play it once and have a completely different game from another kid and not realize it, or better yet have nothing else to do and decide to play it again only to realize there’s more to the game than they thought!

I know a lot of people use the phrase “this game was my childhood” but these games truly were I wasn’t allowed to have video games as a kid, my old school Italian father thought they were the worst thing to have ever happened. I got some of these in my cereal boxes back in the 90’s and fell in love with them! This one was the only one I never was able to have because it was always sold out in the game stores, whenever the boys play these they make me so happy and it brings back so many happy memories 🫶🏼🎮
