  • I always get a lot of positive feedback on my videos about Derwent Drawing pencils so here is another one. I always love to share what these pencils with their limited colour range can achieve, so today I'm using just the Derwent Drawing Pencils to create this realistic artwork of a Laughing Kookaburra on Canson Mi-Teintes paper. It shows that you don't need to work big, or to include lots of fine detail in order to achieve a realistic look.
Thank you for watching my video. Please leave a comment down below, like my video with a "thumbs up" and subscribe to my channel. I upload a new art video every week, and work primarily in coloured pencil and traditional gouache paint. My focus is wildlife as I have a passion for conservation and biology, but I also do pet portraits and "how to" videos as well.

Very beautiful! I drew one a couple years back and think that they are beautiful and awesome bird. That year I drew a few typical species of Australia as we were very worried and love all the animals there as in all Australasia. Great job. I am doing a colored pencil drawing of a sapsucker. It is quite camouflaged. I really enjoy the Pastelmat but it is so expensive. I am using Derwent Lightfast, Drawing, Polys, a few Pablos and Luminance. I use the Polys as my base then mix and go back to the Polys for detail. I enjoy your work very much!

They are certainly a wonderful bird, but I find basically all birds wonderful 🤣 All the best for your Sapsucker piece :)

Hi i want to know before buying derwent colouring pencils i have a black carson mi-tientes pastel paper and thd pencils don't seem to blend well with just the pencils themselves so interested if the blend well on the paper

There are lots of different types of Derwent pencils, which can change how they blend. I find Canson Mi-teintes paper to be good for blending though, though it can take a bit of getting used to.
