    The main reason for plating, is it allows you to knit with, for instance, a sparkly metallic yarn, which may normally be very scratchy next to your skin, so you would plate it with maybe a smooth cotton, that knits on the back side, making the fabric much more wearable.
    It is also useful for knitting stripes where the colour change is less regular or for non seamed pieces of knitting. Without long strands being carried up the sides by the colours.

    Wow! I have only just heard of the plating feeder so came to research it. Thank you so much. I have an Empisal knitting machine but it has been in storage for 30 years. I am busy cleaning and servicing it. I believe it is similar to the Brother machines. Your videos are always so clear and easy to understand. Greetings from Perth in Australia. ❤️

    Can you do plating and Intarsia at the same time so your intarsia graphics are plated to the same yarn as the main garment?

    • @Knitology1x1
      @Knitology1x1  7 месяцев назад

      Great question, I am not too sure… I would say it is probably not possible, since the intarsia carriage doesn’t have a plying option ( at least not for my brother machine) but can’t be 100 % sure without trying. 🤔

    Hi! Thanks so much for the video!
    I have a double bed sinker plate for my brother kh970 but for some reason the plating feeder won’t attach? Is there a certain sinker plate you can recommend?

    • @Knitology1x1
      @Knitology1x1  10 месяцев назад

      hi thanks for watching 😊 not quite sure why that would happen... the first thing that comes to my head is that maybe the plating feeder is not the correct one for your machine? 🤔 I think the ones for brother would all look the same but cannot be entirely sure ..
      this is a link with the one that I am using for my kh891 with a kr850 ribber bed : shop.sckmcl.com.hk/products/plating-yarn-feeder-for-brother-knitting-machine-kr850-411997001

    I love all your videos and thank you for sharing such golden knowledge with us! This really inspired me to try a plating feeder on my ribber set up, however I’m finding that the plating yarn is skipping stitches on almost every row. I’ve tried a couple of different yarns and tensions but nothing seems to work. I was thinking it might be due to different yarn weights. I wonder if you might have any ideas or tips on why this might be happening? I’d be so grateful 🙏 Thank you!

    • @Knitology1x1
      @Knitology1x1  Год назад

      Thanks so much ♥️ so sorry to hear that you are struggling with that…I honestly don’t know what the issue might be ; the yarn thickness should not matter so much for o cause such an issue, I have tried with both yarns the same or one finer one chunkier..
      Are you able to knit fine on double bed otherwise? It might be that the beds are jot aligned properly..
      Hope you will manage to solve the problem! Good luck! 🤗

    For a standard gauge what thickness of yarns do you recommend?

    • @Knitology1x1
      @Knitology1x1  7 месяцев назад

      There are loads of yarn counts that work on a standard machine, it took me years so understand yarn counts ( And there are still some that confuse me!
      If you are just starting out , a place to get yarns for standard gauge is Uppingham yarns or Yeoman. Hope this helps 🤗
