I grew up in a household that thrifts so I love the hunt for those unique gifts. Best gift that was thrifted though was a set of vintage books. I still have those books and I treasure them.

I love attic ornaments more so than new. I always think who loved them and enjoyed them. I bought a Royal Doulton plate two days ago in a thrift store. Lovely blue. The perfect gift to myself.

I regifted something once. There are somethings that are worth much more being older and used. I'll take a hundred yr old diamond piece of jewelry any day over new lol. But seriously, I have shopped in very nice thrift stores in very nice areas and found amazing things. I think it's especially wonderful if you find something someone has said they really wanted and were looking for. 🥰🎄❄☃🎅💖✝

Last year I bought my brother a Land of the Giants annual from Ebay he was over the moon, it brought back some happy memories in what had been a very difficult childhood for both my brothers and myself, this year another annual of a different TV programme 👍

My mommy used to give me new/like new care (packages) arranged in a basket and tied up with new dish towel/dish clothes. Things she knew I'd like. I loved those. I miss getting those. She was great at shopping/thrifting. I'd give anything for one more day, one more visit, one more basket of perfectly curated thrifted items from her. I love you forever mommy!

One of the gifts for Christmas so far is second hand. I gave my son and his girlfriend my old Kitchenaid stand mixer, for their cozy retro kitchen. I found an unopened set of attachments for it, second hand. No way I could afford to buy it new, so it was a very nice find.

Few years back, I found a lovely m and S tweed jacket that looks vintage, for £1, still have it, I wear to 1940s events. .Many more years ago, I got a man’s dinner jacket in a charity shop, and wore it to parties. I love old books.

One of my favorite gifts was a cashmere cardigan that has safety pins embroidered. I enjoy sewing, so this gift was perfect for me!

2nd hand is my favorite! The things I would want are not plentiful bought new.

I have thrifted and charity shopped for many years and have bought many lovely gifts for friends and family. I have, as you suggested, mixed charity shopped and shop bought items to create bespoke gift parcels. my friends and family know me well and we have even gift swapped and upcycled things between us and have done for years. my entire wardrobe is pre loved as is most of my furniture. I wouldn't have it any other way.

old books - aah the lovely vintage smell, ooh the thoughts of who read them before me. Especially old encyclopaedias from the late Victorian period. Musky old libraries in manor houses. OK I know, slightly crazy but hey they smell amazing. 😂

My kids Christmas presents are a mix of thrifted and new and you'd be surprised how many people are snotty about it. Thrifted is better for the planet and your pocket xx infact going into charity shops just after Christmas when there's lots of new presents people didn't even open there dirt cheap can be a great time to thrift too xx

I work in a charity shop, and we get so many toys in the run-up to Christmas. Last Christmas, we had to start giving stuff away for free, and we still couldn't get rid of it all.

I actually put in requests for something vintage/antique. Of course I love a bath bomb, chocolates…..and a video game, if you’re a gamer girl like me, but that little token of something well thought out, that has history and is unlike anything you could buy brand new, just adds depth to the whole present giving and receiving.

Everything I have and buy is secondhand so I wouldn't mind getting secondhand presents.

Wonderful. And all so very true and good advice.
I would add, if there is a family item you like and would one day like to have make it known you like it. With tact please. I think about the various fabulous things my parents have accumulated over their life that I adore. Truly some amazing pieces. And I have been very fortunate that over time, they have gifted some of those to me. So not only have they been loved by them, but also have a second life with me. And bonus, I get the additional memory of my parents imbued in the item too.

I spit out my coffee with the ...:"it's 2nd hand?" We once lived in a bougie neighborhood and the parents would do a registry for their kids B-day. I let my daughter choose and didn't use the registry and the Mother met me at the car and handed the gift back saying it was tacky.

Don't exchange gifts with each other in the name of this ludicrous Christmas carry-on. Instead donate to SHELTER throughout the year. That's doing something really special for others who actually need the gift of money, and for the best/right reason. Come on sheeple, buck your ideas up about reality and stop living a fantasy fairy tale whilst others are dying on the streets!
