    As great as the super arranges are I always find myself prefering the simplicity of the original versions. There's just something so nice about how simple, straightforward and energetic it is.
    I've been waiting for this song to come up though, one of Unisuga's best imo. The intro is so insanely good I could listen to it over and over and over on repeat. Also, it's actually just an area theme, not a boss theme. In Origin you're climbing the same tower the entire game, and there is a desert area within the tower. Rather than exploring a vast desert, your'e running through sand- and enemy-filled corridors frantically trying to not sink into the sand while moving from platform to platform, so the theme fits the fast-paced nature of the area really well.

      Couldn't agree more. There is something subtle and magical in the originals that simply can't be recreated in these remixes/super arranges. Personally I love the ost from the first two games even more, and I wish they are done one day in the channel. Full osts are worth it.

      The original versions are almost always better for Falcom songs. They just kinda… overcompose the super arranges, but yeah that’s the point and I get it.
      Simple clean instruments are far better

      The more guitar solos the better for me, especially when its real performance.

    Ys is pronounced "eece" just like you're saying. The name is a reference to a mythical city off the coast of Brittany (or the northwest portion of France) that supposedly sunk into the sea, ala Atlantis. It actually had a city similar to it that exists to this day, you know it as Paris. Par-Ys. When Paris sinks under the sea, it is claimed that Ys will rise back up to the surface. Falcom did things like this a lot back in the 80's and early 90's, using a kernel of some ancient legend as a jumping off point for an original game. Just rather than Ys sinking into the ocean, it was sent up into the sky.

    As someone who knows people very deep in Falcom fandom, this song was one I always heard about but never heard myself until now. What an incredible piece! It certainly lived up to the hype!
    To answer the question about the last CD I bought: there was a while back when I bought all the Persona Reincarnation albums and those are probably the last CDs. I do buy a lot more vinyl records nowadays of VGM though, so I still got that addiction!

    Please please please considering doing a review of the original soundtrack of East book one and two the PC engine OST. Trust me my man it is the best one phenomenal even if you don’t do a review I highly recommend that you listen to it on your own it’s the best video game soundtrack or is the best video game soundtrack of all time Hands-down. Furthermore, you can look up the JK band from japan who perform these tracks in all its intended glory. Thank you for reviewing and showing appreciation for one of the best soundtracks of all time but by all means listen to the PC engine OST version of ys book 1&2

    Silent Desert is among my favourite tracks of Origin. Also probably one of the most kickass desert-area themes in gaming (though it's not an actual desert, the whole game takes place in a tower). I do hope to see Water Prison show up at some point, it's my favourite dungeon theme from Origin. Though honestly all of the dungeon themes in Origin after the 1st one are amazing. The first one isn't bad, just more along the lines of something traditional you'd hear from a dungeon theme in these types of games if they're not called Ys.
    Your pronounciation of Ys is good btw. You're of the few RUclipsrs who actually gets it right. I personally didn't find it out until I was on my 2nd or 3rd Ys game and pronounced it like 'Wise' before then. But 'Ees' is the correct one.
    Dunno if you're ever gonna play an Ys game, but for the best recs to start with:
    Ys: Oath in Felghana: Best overal soundtrack of an Ys game. Probably has the hardest normal mode in a satisfying way. Gameplay is pretty great. About 7-8 hours for a playthrough.
    Ys Origin: Overal soundtrack is 'slightly' behind Felghana IMO, but still superb. Gameplay is a little bit easier and has more variety. Downside is that you really need to play through 3 times with the 3 different characters to get the full story (takes about 5-8 hours per character). Last story is really good though, the other 2 are pretty decent but fairly straightforward.
    Ys 8: Best story in the entire franchise, though the start is a bit rough (doesn't really get interesting until chapter 3, but only gets better and better as it goes on). Soundtrack is pretty good for Ys standards, though not quite a match for the best (there are some golden tracks though). The game itself is very long as well. Even on the relatively easy normal mode it'll take 35-40 hours for a regular playthrough. I'd recommend at least the hard mode though since the combat doesn't really amount to much more than button mashing on normal mode and you'll actually need to time some of your dodges and parries on hard.
    I think the first one I mentioned would probably be best to start with. Only requires 1 playthrough and really shows Ys at its best as far as music goes.

    Ys Origin has such a good soundtrack, though one of my favourites is a lower key one - Water Prison. "Kind of Castlevaniaish" Yes! Ys Origin gives me some Castlevania vibes sometimes. It also takes place all in one tower though there are different environments within which also felt Castlvania-ish to me.
    And this is background music for an area with lots of sand, and if I remember right and not mixing up areas, traps and fire. Still very much a go go go energy.

    that desert section is inside a tower that is not that big but do go quite high in the sky. meaning, each floor is dense with monster. Ys is also an action game, more so when they were still in top down 3D.

    One of my favourite tracks from Origin and one of Unisuga’s best Ys compositions imo. The original already had really great energy and then Jindo amped it up even more with his SA. The area where this plays (Silent Sands) is one of my least favourites, but the fast pace of the music, really matches the speed of the combat and platforming over sand that you do here.

    Hey if you do plan to play an Ys game in the future if your a story guy id recommend ys 8 but thats about 60 hours if you were to complete it 100% but pretty worth it for story/gameplay aswell. Or you could play a shorter older Ys game like oath of felghana or ys Origins, not story strong but much shorter about 20 hours which also have very fun gameplay but also challenging

      Agreed on VIII, Oath in Felghana and Origins. Probably the strongest entries and good starting points

    • @thenonexistinghero
      @thenonexistinghero 10 месяцев назад

      I think Felghana is a better starting point than Origin mostly because it just requires 1 playthrough. I do think Ys VIII would be a superb entry to the franchise for most people, but if anyone looking to carefully dip into Ys before spending 40 hours into 8, I think Felghana is the best starting point. Origin's superb as well, but it requires 3 playthroughs to get the most out of it and I don't see most streamers actually playing through all 3 stories. The game structure and order are practically the same between the 3 characters save for a few minor things and a few different bosses. The game's definitely fun enough to play at least 3 times though (but I've beaten it like 15 times lol because I wanted to beat it on every difficulty with every character).

    Ys Origin features one of two protagonists (+ one secret unlockable one) on their quest to climb a tall tower and defeat the natural guardians of the tower as well as the various members of an opposed enemy faction. (This is a very simplified explanation.) The entire game, past the intro sequence, takes place in said tower. Many floors have certain themes to them, such as the submerged area or the fire area. This song plays in a set of floors covered in sand. While I can't blame you for thinking this was a boss song, this is actually a dungeon song.

  • @Nysteria
    @Nysteria 10 месяцев назад

    The whole game of Ys Origin is played inside a tower, this is one of the themes of one of the major areas of the tower, not a boss at all.

    You are pronoucing it correctly its a refrence to a mythical floating city off the coast of France in old proto British it was also called Ker-Is Obsucre as fuck mythology at this point though. An Atlantis/Mu kinda thing.
