Sammy Hagar is famous. He sang with Montrose, solo, with Van Halen after David Lee Roth, with his own band the Cabo Wabo’s and Chicken foot. You should know his most famous solo hit “I can’t drive 55!” You should listen to that. Donna I know will know this song the moment she hears it!
I've seen Sammy live with Montrose, Van Halen and solo and his live performances are always upbeat and fun. It's always just one giant party.

'Mas tequila' ... was one of the post-Van Halen solo songs that Sammy Hagar released in the late 90's... He took a track by Gary Glitter and made it his own party anthem.
Sammy Hagar was an established singer long before he was asked to join Van Halen in 1986... Hailing from California, Sammy Hagar started singing at an early age and rose to fame by 1973 as the lead singer of the band Montrose, featuring guitarist Ronnie Montrose... they had radio hits like - 'Bad motor scooter'... 'Rock candy' ... 'Space station #5'... Guitarist Eddie Van Halen cited Montrose as one of his favorite bands in the 70's when Van Halen were still a local band.
After 2 records w/ Montrose, Sammy Hagar was fired and he claimed he was penniless... despite their success. In 1976, he launched his solo career and spent the next decade on tour and making solo records... One of his early singles was the song 'Red'... and the press would refer to Hagar as the 'Red' rocker... so, he liked that moniker and kept it.
Major hit singles came in 1982 from his album 'Standing Hampton'... his first platinum selling record w/ the singles - "There's only one way to rock" (which Van Halen covered live when he joined the band) and 'Heavy metal'... Next album "Three lock box" arrived w/ the hit single "Your love is driving me crazy"... in late '82 and the album sold gold.
His 1984 album 'V.O.A.' produced his signature hit - "I can't drive 55"... and was another platinum success.
In 1985, Sammy Hagar was considering quitting music when he got a call from Eddie Van Halen asking him to audition for Van Halen... Hagar was adamant when he went to meet the band and heard the new music for what became the '5150' album and was blown away... He signed on as original singer David Lee Roth's replacement in Van Halen and in 1986, the '5150' album went to #1 on the US charts.
In 1987, he released what was supposed to be his last solo album 'I never said goodbye'.
Hagar's era w/ Van Halen was often referred to as 'Van Hagar'... and after 4 consecutive #1 albums by 1995, the relationship between Hagar and Eddie Van Halen deteriorated and he was out of Van Halen in 1996... In 2002, Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony was seen playing in Sammy Hagar's solo band; Hagar speculates that was the reason why Anthony was eventually fired from Van Halen.
Despite the bitter exit from Van Halen, Sammy Hagar wasted no time making new music, releasing the solo album 'Marching to Mars' in 1997 and had a hit - 'Little white lie'... He announced his new band for touring was Sammy Hagar and the Wabos. They released 'Red Voodoo' in 1999... and then, the album 'Ten 13' in 2000... and 'Not 4 sale' in 2002.
Hagar's ventures outside music included Tequila and his investments paid off big as his brand Cabo Wabo Tequila line was sold in 2008 for $100 Million.
In 2002, Sammy Hagar announced a major co-headline tour w/ David Lee Roth to celebrate the legacy of Van Halen... but the 2 were always at odds on the road and despite the success of the tour, Hagar was not willing to work w/ the original Van Halen singer.
In 2004, Sammy Hagar and bassist Michael Anthony signed on for a Van Halen reunion tour in N. America, but Eddie Van Halen drug and alcohol abuse made the concerts an unbearable experience... Unwilling to continue the tour, both Hagar and Anthony left the band for good... In 2007, Van Halen announced a reunion tour w/ David Lee Roth and Eddie's son Wolfgang as the band's bassist.
In 2006, Sammy Hagar and bassist Michael Anthony were the only Van Halen members present to induct Van Halen into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame... Hagar kept releasing new records and touring successfully... He also launched more ventures in TV shows, food and other businesses and has always been an avid promoter of rock music.
In 2009, Hagar and Anthony formed the band Chickenfoot w/ guitar legend Joe Satriani and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith... they released 2 successful studio albums - 'Chickenfoot' (2009) and 'Chickenfoot III' (2011)
In 2015, Sammy Hagar announced his current solo band was Sammy Hagar & The Circle... featuring bassist Michael Anthony, drummer Jason Bonham (son of Led Zeppelin's late drummer John Bonham) and longtime guitarist Vic Johnson... They released the live album 'At your service' in 2015 covering Hagar's entire career and some Led Zeppelin songs... They have since released 2 studio albums - 'Space between' (2019) and 'Crazy times' (2022)
After the 2020 passing of Eddie Van Halen, Sammy Hagar revealed that he had made peace w/ the late guitarist by phone before his death... In 2024, Sammy Hagar has announced a major Van Halen tribute tour w/ guitarist Joe Satriani playing alongside Michael Anthony and drummer Jason Bonham to celebrate the legacy of Eddie Van Halen.

As far as I know, he started out in Montrose, went solo, joined Van Halen , then went back solo. Cabo Wabo is a club, which I don't know if he still owns it or not. He known for songs like I Can't Drive 55 and Bad Motor Scooter.
He'll be 77 in Oct. Have been listening to him since the '70s Van Halen and solo. Standing Hampton, V.O.A., Three Lock Box all great solo albums and seen him solo/w Van Halen.

Sammy has made much more money through his personal businesses and investments then he has in music. Investor.Warren Buffett has even asked him to talk to do a seminar for his people. And according to a friend of mine who knows him he said he’s a really nice guy
Sammy started the Tequila brand Cabo Wabo and then sold it for a fortune. He has the Cabo Wabo bars and now has a brand of rum I believe.

His song Cruisin' and Boozin' always reminds me of my high school days since that all did in our small town. (Pop a buck in the gas tank, and we'll drink up the rest.) Saw him the first time on the Street Machines tour in 78. That album has some good songs on it like Trans Am, This Planet's on Fire, and Plain Jane.

Sammy Hagar Started with the Montrose band. My favorite song by him is his 1st hit called ... "RED"... Studio version. He is a red head. So is my ex' wife and our daughter. Let's see. Who else is a red head?

Sammy is a great front man. He is truly a performer that wants to please his fans. What is really sad about this Album is it was right after he was gone from Van Halen. Alex and Eddy Van Halen started talking shit about how Sammy was lazy and never wanted to perform he just wanted to party. Sammy started touring and pumping out records showing he absolutely wanted to perform and hadn't missed a step.

Sammy was the founder of the Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Sammy now has one on Huntington Beach. He also owned Cabo Wabo Tequila. Sammy partnered with Guy Fieri as owners of Santo Tequila and Mezquila. He partnered with Rick Springfield for Sammy's Beach Bar Rum. He's now coming out with a beer called Red Rocker Lager.
