Some wooden features have got to be the sketchiest things ever. Especially any wooden feature in the rain, it is instantly the most terrifying thing ever.
I had no appreciation for just how slippery wet wood could be until my wife and I each wiped out on the same turn of a boardwalk during a lazy Saturday morning neighbourhood ride. (Shamefully not even at the bike park.) According to the ER doc she broke 'at least one' rib, and a surgeon had to set my broken thumb with pins resulting in months of rehab after the cast came off. Lessons learned the hard way.
I’ve ridden road bikes a lot. I just got a Mountain bike. I’m finding that little drops, some downhills, and bridges are freaking me out. What are some ways to build confidence? I see these videos where people are just sailing off off stuff, and it looks so fun… but how do you get there?
Is that chicken wire? If that breaks you are asking for a puncture.... however in my region we use roofing shingles or an ice and water roofing underlayment (for those who don't know it's just a bunch of tiny stones embedded in tar and the underlayment is thin but with alot of length and hight which is normally to be used for big obstacles while shingles are more or less used on skinnies) and if you get a puncture it's from your own stupidity then
Most bikes will manage wooden features fine. Using suspension will make it a lot more comfortable, but it's not essential. Although, it really does depend on how gnarly the features are. We'd always recommend checking the trail grading! 👊
"I'm goin auuuuuull the way up there, get so much more braaahaap and I'm gonna hit it!" 😂 Lovin U Blake, U're the Best! ❤😎
Why do i feel like whenever blake gives tips, i wanted to ride a black diamond trail blindfolded. Blakes confidence is so contagious
Right? I feel the exact same way. It never ends well. 🤣

They always seem to look more intimidating than they actually are (especially in the wet). They're great fun though! 👍
Wet wood - aargh!
Excellent video, Blake; as always. Wow! Austria has absolutely beautiful mountains.

Look at Emily Horridge RUclips videos; how to- drop off, ride rock Gardens, climb roots etc. She explains things in a confidence inspiring way.

Blake. I have a complaint. You make this look too easy. To level the playing field a bit, I think you should try doing a run on a unicycle.

Can you ride it with any bike?
Most of those features, yes, the bike does not matter all that much if you take care and know your way around them. Suspension sure helps though.

Just don't
I'll think I'll continue to avoid the wooden features. Lol
They can seem quite intimidating, but they are well worth a go! Start small and build up at your own pace! 👍
I get nervous just from watching this video 😟
