KC Royals Fans Broke All Star Voting in 2015

- Hey everyone!
The all star game is almost here, so I knew I had to talk about something all star related. The Kansas City Royals were a hot team in the mid 2010s. They also had a very passionate fan base. However, sometimes fans can be a bit rowdy. A perfect storm of circumstances nearly led to 8 Royals players having a place in the all star starting lineup. I hope you enjoy the video!

As a Royals fan this was a great video.....so what if I have 92 email accounts... Omar had a sweet swing
I agree my 18 accounts were all very important to my everyday life
Homar infante was a legend
I just made up random accounts to vote. Not sure all of them counted but had to do it just in case.
I'd say most of the royals deserved it but idk about Infante and Morales
@@brycearmentrout3975 morales in 2015 raked i think he deserved it
Damn those Royals squads were so exciting to watch, the last successful small ball team.
The rallies were incredible for those Royals. Every time they were down late, they just would not quit until they were ahead. After that, that bullpen just sealed the door on you.
Honestly the royals have a somewhat similar team but with less spread and more power. The only thing that’s killing us is our bullpen and starting pitching.
*speed
@@forkpoo7202 and inconsistent play all around
As a royals fan these couple years of dominance was nice we suck now. But we have Patrick mahomes now are dominating again so that's nice.
I miss my 2014-2017 royals when we weren't garbage
Same
I always routed for the royals because my favorite team is the Ray's and we were horrendous for those years, so I'd always cheer for the royals unless they faced the Ray's
Me too
We can cry together 😢😢
I wish the Royals could take back Eric Hosmer lmfao
I'm a Royals fan, and 2015 was the most fun I've ever had in my 30+ years of watching baseball. I did vote all Royals for the All-Star Game, but I only did it once. There was this prevailing expectation, this faith, that the Royals would play the All-Star Game and win home field advantage for our inevitable return to the Fall Classic, and then ALL of that happened. Beat the Mets in 5 games and had a parade on a beautiful November day in Kansas City. It was jubilant, with nearly one million people crammed together in front of Union Station and on the lawn of the World War I memorial. Out of everyone there, there was NO division - no christians or atheists, no democrats or republicans - everyone there was a ROYALS fan and that's ALL that mattered. The KCPD reported only 3 arrests during the event and I've never been more proud of my city.
That closing remark of Omar Infante having an OPS+ of 48 to end the season could literally have been the entire video
Crazy to think just how much things have changed in 6 years! Also, I could see this happening with the Padres because of their popularity rn and just how many legit dudes they have on the squad
No one truly understands how those WS teams impacted Kansas City unless you lived here. Those teams gave a whole city hope again, which will probably never be replicated again.
I mean you guys have Mahomes
@@fourtwenty1813 yes we do but 2015 was before 2018.... the 2014 2015 royals seasons were the best times i have had in this city I loved the superbowls but man the energy the belief in this team it was unmatched literally anywhere you went royals shirts hats everything everywhere home games sold out every night. I love the chiefs and the energy is close but I don't think anything will top that 2015 season it was just magic
@@spoonsz Couldn't have said it better myself
@@lanceshelton8208 i agree with your original statement as well now were spoiled sports fans but back then we were so hungry for a winner first the royals now chiefs. If you said this 15 years ago no way I would ever believe you lol
Royales were misunderstood, before their time, love how flashy the teams get now as it brings new life to our beloved sport
@@AnthonyBabyRickeys Now I see one of the reasons why Eric Hosmer went to the Padres. Especially when Fernando Tatis Jr came up they got along pretty easily.
Yeah I remember being so mad when Omar Infante was leading the 2nd basemen voting in the AL.
i didn’t even like him but i still voted for him
He was snubbed tbh
Ehhh even Royals fans knew that votes were going to start being added to totals by MLB in order to avoid the Royals sweep.
I would just like to note that this team during that time and probably still today were loved by many fans from alot of nearby states who don't have professional teams like Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Oklahoma. And I would guess alot of people from around the country included. Who loved underdogs. This wasn't just because of the people in Kansas City, MO.
I would think more fans on the western states that connect to Missouri would be Cardinals fans
@@rpatterskc1 mostly true but in places like Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska where Alex Gordon is from, And the triple A club. Arkansas where the double A club plays. I imagine in this region there would be many cards fans as well.
As a Roylas fan, this was one of if not my favorite memories from being a Royals fan lol. In our defense the AL did win the All Star game that year lol
And the Royals did use that home field advantage to beat the Mets in the WS lol. Suck it haters
That team was electric. It was worth all the years of suffering us royals fans had to go through. We will be back someday soon
Bobby Witt jr and nick pratto are promising. Hopefully that someday is in 1 or 2 years.
Pratto can barely hit his weight in A ball. He’ll be lucky to even make it to the pros.
@@alwillk He's young, still has time to develop, and slash line of .276/.407/.593 is pretty good through 54 games this year. And not to be an ass or anything but AA ball is considered pro baseball
As a Royals fan, the 2013-2016 royals lead to some of the best moments in my life
sport storm uploads. today is a good day
RIP Yordano Ventura
RIP ace
2016 NL is another great example because the entire Cubs infield started in the All-Star game. THID BETTER GET A VIDEO FOR TOO
Fun year to be a Royals fan, that's for sure. Miss those days
Yeah
Love the content bro keep it up
thanks for making a video about my royals. they don’t get enough love in my opinion, that 2015 squad just worked like a well oiled machine and is still my favorite ws. would love to see a few more royals videos! 💙💛💙
You can’t be a Royals fan and a Red Sox fan
@@0v3rgr0wn why not i love both clubs and there history i do like the royals more tho
As a royals fan I miss 2014-2015 good times👑🦁⚾️ #crownnation
I wish it was 2015 again. Not just for the Royals, but because it was my best year in general for me
Back in 2016 I was living in my car for a few months. McDonalds had a deal where if you installed the app you got a free sandwich...just had to use a new email address to create an account. I had about 60 gmail accounts and ate a lot of mcdonalds😏 It was a life saver though
Damn glad to see you’re still kicking it brother
This video makes me so happy as a Royals fan. They were ahead of the curve but always forgotten.
Great essay! Super interesting
Let me tell ya. As a royals fan, if you’ve even been somewhat decent. You’re gonna get love, in any sport Baseball, Football college sports.
Most underrated RUclips channel ever.
Royals fans are a different breed when it comes to the all star game
#BooCano #ASG2012 #Justice4CountryBreakfast
Thanks for the vid on the royals, we don’t get much attention
How about the HOF cases for Billy Wagner and Francisco Rodriguez? Both have pretty good cases, but K-Rod might have trouble with the character clause.
Or Joe Nathan.
@@baseballfan7006 Sure, maybe Troy Percival, too
Wagner is definitely gonna get in better numbers than Nathan and Percival and started his career earlier into the steroid era. K Rod should get in on talent and numbers but wife beating ain’t cool. I don’t think Nathan and Percival get in ever.
It WAS a fascinating time. Kansas City, and the entire area, was absolutely captivated.
Cubs had a similar season in 2016. Was pretty funny to watch Addison Russell start an ASG
That run from the wild card game in Oakland to the World Series in NY was almost like one continuous season. The 2nd year seemed preordained. Waiting for the world series felt like waiting to open presents Xmas morning. No doubts.
I was a middle school student in Kansas at the time. We would get extra credit in lots of our classes for voting for the Royals players 😂. That team meant evverything to the city, still does.
I love being a royals fan
That fight montage was sick
Great video. I was afraid almost halfway through that it was a hit piece against the fun loving royals that brought me so much joy. I believe you're right that the small celebrations put a target on their backs, especially with the "that's what speed do" gesture (we only get the start of speedster Billy Butler's gesture here: ruclips.net/video/JbLd7vlrDMY/видео.html though we see the dugout giving it back to him) but stealing bases and putting the ball in play gets fans engaged. I'm conflicted; I love the long ball, I love dominant pitching, and I also love scrappy baseball
Sports storm the most underated youtuber
this was crazy but remember literally the next year when the NL All Star starting infield was literally just the Cubs’
I miss tf out of Yordano man
Fun fact at 5:50 That game lead to the Oakland As hiring MORE POLICE OFFICERS for every royals game that season
*Cries in Mets fan*
I remember this giants doing it all too well. Loved it lol
What would you think about doing a video on the 2016 Texas Ranger? They were a team that had the best record in the league but only 12th in run differential.
the bit where the fan shows that the trick is opening an incognito window is really interesting cuz that seems to suggest it was just preventing you from cheating using a cookie that tracked that you had used that email address from that computer without any other form of check which is so crazily bad as a system
Eddie and Ace man. Always throwing hands gotta love it.
Mike Sweeney was the last Royal in the all star game prior to the 2013 season. He was an all star in 2005
Yeah but Sweeny never started an all star game he was just the royals one player to go. Dye was actually voted in
the 2016 Cubs also had 7 players elected to the All Star game. At the time 5 were named starts.
Let’s go new vid
Hey I'd love to see a video of the 07 Phillies run. It gets over looked alot due to the Rockies run. The Phillies were 7 behind the Mets with 17 games left and went 14-3 including a 4 game sweep vs the Mets. Just think if they went 13-5 or lost 1 of those 4 vs the Mets we could of had 2 game 163 in 07.
The 2015 Royals started Make Baseball Fun Again. We did that
I still have confetti from the WS parade. What a great time to be alive. Now its time to see what Patty Mahomes can do with the Chiefs! 😂
Already has 2 SB appearances under his belt, hopefully it’ll keep going
A big point to remember is how KC fans felt that Royals players were disrespected during the 2012 All-Star Game (when KC hosted). Fan favorite Billy Butler was among the league leaders in homers, but he was left off the Home Run Derby. Royals fans let their voice be heard then.
So many people thought the 2014 Royals were a fluke, and then Royals players were disrespected by the opposing teams (and somewhat vilified by the media). So once again, Royals fans decided to get their back.
It's not like it was wholly underserved either. KC had just come off a World Series appearance, and they had the best record in the AL. Escobar, Gordon, Perez, and Hosmer were all gold glovers; Cain should have won one by then (he finished 3rd in MVP voting that season), Moose had a nice bounce back season, and Morales wasn't exactly a slouch at the plate.
Infante and Rios were just funny though.
You should look into the Chicago cubs 2016 starting all star game infield
7:43 wow how dare he be happy about getting his first career hit
Respect, Royal fans.
Kansas City is the GOAT. Our sports have been so spoiled the past decade, I'm so glad I'm from this town.🔥🔥🔥🔥
I remember this it was wild
RIP Ventura. He was my favorite pitcher in 2015. So angry and fun. Huge potential too
Stop. He wasn’t any good. He had a good arm who could barely find the plate. His last year 2016 was his worst.
It was more than just KC, The Royals were America's team for the 2010's , iconic
Bro as a young royals fan I never knew that the royals were a villain team
Honestly I remember the 2010 Rangers with little celebrations towards the dugout after every hit.
When the 2015 Royals traded for Ben Zobrist, I wasn't entirely sure what he was for, and all the articles called him a "utility man" capable of playing almost any position. The question marks at the time were RF Paulo Orlando (the sub for the injured Alex Rios) and Infante, and because Infante and Alcides Escobar had an almost telepathic connection in the middle infield I thought for sure Zobrist would be playing CF with Lorenzo Cain taking RF and benching Orlando. Shows how much I knew.
Without Zobrist taking over for Infante the Royals probably don't win the WS in 2015. IIRC Infante was batting under .100 in July before Zobrist came onboard. Zobrist was a perfect complement to the rest of the contact-hitting Royals, batting moneyball style right behind the white-hot free-swinging Escobar. Meanwhile, having Rios batting at 9 was a luxury compared to what the other AL playoff contenders generally had there. It also took the pressure off Rios to perform and allowed his form to return in time for the postseason.
so i was little when the royals one it, i didn’t care much for baseball then so i thought my mom was crazy when she raved for this team. i regret it now seeing how broken the 2013-2017 royals were.
Ventura was a trash talker, but a extremely talented pitcher. So sad that he passed.
I remember a lot of non-Royals fans said they would vote for the Royals so to make a mockery of fan voting. The attention and complaints Is what led to Omar Infante’s support to spike upward.
Royals were riding two great years
I was really enjoying this video, then u showed clipped of the royals a's wild card game.
as an a’s fan being 11 when that game happened i was absolutely heartbroken after losing the past 2 years to the what seemed like unbeatable tigers with verlander and miggy i was so relieved to face a different team and one i thought we would blow thru but yet the royals found a way and looking back on it i’m grateful for that royals team it was a real underdog story that all sports need at times
To be fair they were such a perfect team
Not even close. They were probably the worst World Series champ of the last 15 years. The has a gray bullpen, mediocre starters and a few good players. They same team could barely hit .500 in ‘17 and ‘18
@@alwillk gray bullpen?
How about best bullpen of all time, lineup that got on base at a high rate and drove in runs, and starters that were good enough to get our bullpen in with a lead. Fucking dumbass
*great bullpen. Typo.
There seems to have always been an easy solution to this problem. Just make it so you can only vote for a max of 3 or 4 players per team. I was actually shocked they didn’t do that after 2015 and that whole close call with Omar Infante.
Oh also I miss these royals, they were so fun
Man can you imagine how much more exciting these Royals teams would have been for casual fans if they were allowed to celebrate like today?
We went from underdog boys in 2014 to villains in 2015. Couldn’t have been a more fun stretch of fandom. The bullpen, the speed, the salvy splash, getting Cueto, Moose ascending after struggling for so long, Gordon being so clutch…. So fun.
I was at the game during that hard slide by lowrie
remember when stanton almost made the allstar game when he'd only played like 5 games all season
Honestly, you can't blame Royals fans, they were just more passionate than other fan bases.
Other teams may cringe but these years were so much fun living in KC.
this is why we cant have nice things....
I went to the library and sent votes from all their computers 🤣
No one cares about kc anymore as a resident. It was so fun back in 2015 however. Going to playoff parties for each series and at Halloween walking from house to house with everybody having their garage door open so we could just walk and in talk and catch the world series game. Good times
I miss yordana ventura
Idc if Yordano was a trash talker he was a hella good pitcher.
We not gonna talk about the 2016 cubs? 7 starters!?
The Royals really weren’t a team you could hate. I’m a Tiger’s fan, and as much as it pained me to see a division rival win it all when my team didn’t, I’m glad it was the Royals
R.I.P yordono vinturna
I remember the Royals throwing at the Blue Jays 4 times/ game with no consequence
Video idea. Posey hof case.
That’s “Future Hall of Famer, Omar Infante” to you
I’ll admit that I voted at least 8 times for the same royals players after I noticed I could vote like 35 times in 2015
Royals would be lucky to get 2 now
As an A’s fan i dispised this Royals team I hated playing them and they were always involved in fights. But hey its apart of the game and At least they got their ring tho. I do like the style of baseball that this Royals team played but I hated when my team played against them.
When manny absolutely haymakered ventura into another dimension
MLB : Allows fans to vote
Also MLB : cries when fans vote
I may get hated because of this, but MLB should have done what they did after Cincinnati. Fans get to vote for the final roster spot, maybe they can do campaigns for players, but that’s it. The rosters should be decided by the players, managers and coaches.
A case for the HOF: Mark Grace
2016 Cubs broke it too
R.I.P Ace
Those were the days to be a royals fan lol
I remember being so mad Moose got that final roster spot over Brian Dozier (since the Royals had enough players on the AL roster). Dozier's game performances before the ASG helped him make his case. In the end Dozier replaced some injured player and preformed better than Moose in the ASG. So, I'm very happy and content with that! (Win Twins!)
Way to leave out the fact that Scott Kazmir tried to knee cap Lorenzo Cain in that game where Kelvin threw at Lawrie.
The issue had been resolved when Ventura hit Lawrie in a blowout got tossed and everything was fine until Oakland tried to take out another Royals player.
The 01 mariners had the same amount in the all star game
300,000,000 ballots for the all star game? If only politics could get those kinds of numbers…
