Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is not only known for his bravery and governance, he was known for his sense of justice too. He never allowed anyone to target the non Hindu women in the areas he captured. It is recorded that he defeated one of the Mughal Governors who fled the battle field leaving behind his daughter-in-law who was brought to the court as a gift to Shivaji. Shivaji not only got extremely upset with the concerned officials but sent the lady to his mother to be taken care of. She was later sent back to her family with gifts in a manner which resembles the traditional ways in which a woman go back from their parents home to their in-laws. Not only this, let's not forget that there were many Muslims who served in Shivaji's administration. No doubt, he waa devout Hindu, but he respected all religions. His campaigns against the Mughals had nothing to do with religion. Also, please note that the Indian Army does not in bring any particular religion to support motivation. Sir, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was the first King who fought against the Mughals and established Hindu empire. So called Aurangzeb was in Maharashtra where Maratha ruled and Aurangzeb died after 27 years without defeating the Marathas.
A couple of points Cheema ji. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj started the foundation of Maratha Empire. It was the largest empire in India from South like Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujrath, MP etc but went right across Attock river in todays Pakistan. He created a very powerful navy too. Indian Navy flag carries the seal of Shivaji Maharaj even today. Irony is the last Mughal emperor of Delhi was paying protection money to Maratha rulers to defend him.
