You have the typical sizing each other up, a little bit of anticipation. And both teams trying to out play each other. In the 2nd. half however, both teams played spectacular basketball as both teams consistently went on spurts. Again, UNC & UK are two virtually evenly matched basketball programs.
I was there at the game surrounded by a sea of kentucky blue. When Luke Maye hit that shot I was 1 of about 10 people in my section that went crazy. Luke Maye's shot still gets me pumped to this day
Man those shots by Monk were just ridiculous at the end. May had some big shots through out, and Jackson just has a great feel for the game... Really fun game to watch, maybe the best one yet.....
I wish they'd show the Monk shot and the quick inbounds from UNC in real time. That was the beauty of the shot, the UNC players knowing exactly what to do because that's how they practice it. UK was scrambling and the quick hit ahead paid off in Mayes dramatic shot

perfectlemonade is correct....Roy William's offensive philosophy is to have his players immediately push the ball back up the court as soon as the opposition scores a field goal, and for them to respond back by scoring quickly. Many teams use the same strategy. The only difference is that Roy William's coaching style and players are slightly more talented than most teams. Coach Calipari often uses the same philosophy too with the talent he often has with many of his heavily talented UK players. Basically UK and UNC were two very evenly matched teams. It was an outstanding game. I'm a UNC fan through and through, but I think UK should have been a top seed in this tournament and were a bit hosed. Regardless, I'm glad UNC won.
Almost 2 seconds after the 3point shot to make the score tied. The coach should be in focus and attention to call a timeout. But he don't pay attention instead he joins celebrating and shouting. What the coach was that? His players try hard as much as they can but this coach don't do his job.

Why was Gabriel put on ice nearly the whole second half? He's one of UK's best defenders. Once again, small-ball leaves us out of the final four. I love our guards, but only 2 should be on the court, at a time. Gabe could have guarded the wing players effectively & the kid from New Zealand that never plays could have played a lot more this year in the paint and around the elbow & base-line.

Williams was right to zone, but Cal should have put Willis or Gabriel at the 3 slot and ran traditional hi-lo plays to off-set the zone. Darius Miller was the best zone buster I ever saw at kentucky. He'd flash hi post on the foul line and turn and read and re-act. Plus, he was a 6'9" SF with range and great fundamentals on the defensive end.
Willis should have been green lit to have more isolated plays set for him to score. He was a mismatch problem for Carolina. Regardless, it was an outstanding game between two heavyweight programs. I only wished these two teams had an opportunity to play in the Final Four instead of the Elite 8. I still scratch my head on why UK was a 2nd. seed in this tournament.
Duke definitely should not have been a two seed. They got hot late and was gift wrapped a 2 seed. Honestly, UNC was gift wrapped a top seed. But I do agree that UNC was the best team out of an extremely overrated ACC Conference this year.
