Nope. It's Chandler who really evolved and to be actually more mature than the rest.
Ross actually regressed throughout the series. The first 2 seasons he was like the most sensible and level headed friend but by the end of the series, he was like one of the weirdest and silliest. I cannot imagine season 2 Ross wanting to kiss his cousin or break into Mona's apartment or do a lot of the facial expressions and physical comedy we see during the later seasons.

Monica is smart but she has OCD and traumas to deal with just like Chandler... he's not emotionally smart at the beginning but he evolved to not be such a smartass.
Joey is smart with attracting women, a kind of street smarts like Phoebe, something Ross and Chandler are not.

It's hard because they're so unique in different ways. Joey is good looking an funny, Rachel is sweet and the girl girls want to look like and guys want to date, Chandler is hilarious without trying, Phoebe is quirky and whatever goes lol, Ross is a great father he's smart and funny then aside from the jealousy a good boyfriend/husband lol, Monica is probably the hardest to like because of her OCD lol but still a great friend and she can cook thats always a plus 😄. My 2 favs Chandler and Rachel next would be Ross and Joey.
I actually like these two. Two opposing views yet they come together in the name of friendship lol. Sometimes Ross can be hard to ingest but Phoebe can have fun with him now and then. One of my favorite scenes was Ross apologizing to the cat Phoebe believed was her mother reincarnated. Lol.

Ross has the best face reaction to Phoebe, every time she does something drastic you can see his face processing what the hell she is doing. One of my favorite friend combination, Phoebe testing Ross to be a little more light hearted while Ross looks after her, he bought her a bike and taught her how to ride one!
Ross has the best facial expressions of any character. This is the biggest reason he’s my favorite character.
