This really makes for a nice gift giving idea for book loving friends who will appreciate it because you've not only given thought to a book they will like but also took the time to have thoughtfully sewn a nice book cover. Thank you for sharing.
I like the basics of how this was made. Could easily adapt to have a lining and finished edges. It is much simpler than the method I currently use so I’m definitely going to give this a go!
Thanks for this great video. I enjoy watching Jo she is funny and makes me laugh. Reminds me of my mum who used to iron everything including our underwear and soaks and tea towels. Hope you have her back quite often.
She is so right about the measurements needing to be right. Started one from a different video and measured as directed and it still did not come out right. I will try this one. I like how she measured and just did one flap at a time. Love the yellow iron.
All those tiny details and steps ar so sooo important for a verry good looking and fitting book cover, she is sooo right great video! I agree for the edges it will be better if she made a little bit stich on each side.
With the particular project I'm working on I would like a wide flap but its a wide book, so I think I may have to make a wide band in the lining fabric that wraps around the front cover and another one that wraps around the back cover and slip those on before putting the actual book cover on the book. I'll need to find a way to fasten them to the inner edge of the book cover flap to stop them from moving.
Your comment made me laugh. I was shocked the first time I saw this happen as well and missed the video I was trying to watch. I'd love to get one as well
Wow, I was wanting to do something cool with all my books and was planning on just wrapping them in a paper. I have so many old althetic shirts I was planning on making a quilt with some day but this would be a way cooler idea! I just have to learn how to sew still :/
@@tinathompson683 The only disadvantage, I guess, is that it would add unnecessary bulk. This would be a pain if you were using the book as a journal and wanted to write in it and it was bumpy along the edge. But it would make my teeth itch, too, having a raw edge - even if you couldn't see it!
How do you recommend making a book cover for those small ones where the spine doesn't bend all the way back? Like a small paperback prayer book. Thank you.
It doesn't have to bend all the way back. Bend just enough to give room to slip on the new cover. Less of a problem with small books. More so with large and thick books. A guideline... The more narrow the inside flap, the less the book has to bend back to accommodate a new fabric cover. For a small book, experiment with scrap fabric or paper first. (paper towel, tissues, wrapping paper, etc.) Once you have what will work with paper, use that as a pattern or guideline to cut your fabric. Hope this helps.
The idea is nice but I found the tutorial distracting and hard to follow. Just seemed a little bit all over the place. I've seen other tutorials on this project that make it much simpler.
I agree with the raw edges. I also think the machine is big and clunky. Can you imagine how much time is wasted pushing a button to lower the presser foot, and another push to raise it??? Lol.
Not a lot of correct info for people learning to sew which is the point of a tutorial. Dont finish edges. And why would you glue down seam allowance. Very sloppy.
The point of any tutorial is to create what was shown. The tutorial did just that. This is a project that even inexperienced sewers could do, which makes it an excellent tutorial. You don't need to be an NBA player in order to play a game of basketball. If you want to finish the seams, do it.

my face changed when I saw the iron lift itself from the board. :D It pretty much became the star of the video xD
cornycogwheels so did you see it too👀😆💖
@@fludrbywest3886 I noticed the iron lift myself. Even after the entire video I came away saying, "Where can I get that iron?"
I have always wanted one!!! $300
What sort of magical iron is this!
You have to get yourselves one. Amazing iron aside from the fact that you can’t accidentally leave it to burn a hole in your ironing mat 😊
Thanks for bringing Jo.
And... thanks Jo.

Wow, my husband has 8 grandchildren, and I think these would make great gifts!
I made a cover for my bible commentary book and it turned out so great. ❤️❤️❤️so easy to follow. Now I just have to find some more books I can cover.

This method is far superior to others I've seen, which by comparison are just sloppy. Thank you.
Well Jo really made that long winded! You could see the other lady watching her like ‘oh you do one side at a time do you?’ 🤣🤣
Love the project and all the great tips!!
Great demonstration! Thank you!

Great tips. I have tried doing a fabric cover before and failed. Now I know why. Will try again with the tips suggested here. Thanks
Ooohh!!Thank you very much for video i made my own diary cover.. i am so happy.

OMGoodness did you see that iron jump up!!? When she set it down? I really gota have one❣️ what is it called ?
Hi Martha, That is an Oliso iron. You can find it at many quilt and sewing retailers, and online retailers.
Your comment made me laugh. I was shocked the first time I saw this happen as well and missed the video I was trying to watch. I'd love to get one as well
A most excellent tutorial ✅
This is great for journals, or bibles, or books that you constantly use.

love love love!!! thank you so much xx
Thank you both. I know what I want to make next. This was a great project. :-)
So Beautiful!
I am going to make some for my Bibles!
Thanks for those little tips and secrets - measure measure measure! :D
Love the project. I believe it is possible to Bandera the seams shut.
Would this work as well with soft covers?
Thank you! Very clear. 😊
Would NEVER be able to be able to leave the unfinished seam inside. It would have been so easy to hem those before starting the cover .
My thoughts, exactly.

Can you make these for paperbacks?
Gosh i love that iron what brand is it?
Hi Luisa! The iron is made by Oliso. You should be able to find it with a quick google search.
Can someone tell me what type of fabric iron is that one? It pops up when it is layed down!!!!! 😱
Thank you for your tutorial, I made my book covers, the 1st one was not so good, the 2nd one was perfect. Thank you so much.

We're so glad you liked our tutorial. We have more in the works! Thank you for your feedback.
How can she hold the pages and mark the fabric at the same time? I’m sure there is a better way. And I can’t even sew.
Forget the book covering i want this iron that lifts itself up from the board!!!

Thank you for your recommendations! Great information.
The iron is my ideal.
I want one to carry a bible and note book and odds and ends. I made my own cover without handles.
That iron is smart!
I will give it a go
Great tips

wow
It would be nicer and neater looking if it were lined as well.
8:04 cool iron
i hope i can do it
i dont have fabric

If the book doesn't lay flat then I don't see the point in fabric book covers. All your doing then is hurting the spine's longevity.
hi
So why is the blonde lady in this video? She provides no value.
