For anyone in the process or considering doing a K24A swap with an 02-04 RSX harness, this conversion is a must! You will quickly find that P0335 will keep your car from revving past 3000 RPM and will trigger Limp Mode. There are key details that online swap guides do not tell you. This being one of them. Thank you Brian and the good folks at VTEC.academy for clarifying this!
I just ran into this problem last night. Thankfully, I had a CRV block sitting in my garage. So a quick sensor swap solved that problem, but now I know that I can use the TSX one on the CRV block. Great information. Thank you.
Your video caused the light bulb in my head to finally click!!! I'm messing with those dang r18 engines, the ones that crack. I had an r18a1 with cracked block and rebuilt it with a r18z1 from 2012-2014 civic. I used the r18a1 internals and knew I had to use the r18a1 crankshaft trigger wheel to be able to be compatible with my 2006 ecu. Well, 2006 sensor actually caused my main pcm fuse to blow and would not work on the r18z1 block. Probably different gap or angle. I could only get my motor to start with the 2012 crankshaft sensor. Also, I kept wiring it like the old sensor, pin 1: ground, pin 2: 5v signal, pin 3: 12 v power. After watching this video, I began to think if Honda had changed the wiring. Also, I noticed the blue wire being in different location when taking this sensor and connector off a 2012 civic at the junk yard. I assumed that the colors changed, but no! Blue wire is 5v signal for crankshaft position sensor for 2006-2011 and 2012-2014 civics. I switched ground and signal pins, turned on ignition, and checked blue wire with multimeter and it was 0.023 volts, basically 0 volts. I moved the crankshaft sensor, so it had metal in front of it, and it turned to 5 volts!!! Did exactly what it's supposed to. I didn't crank it since it's nighttime now, but tomorrow I will crank it, and hopefully, that p0335 will be gone. I know r18's are insane to work on and nobody would waste time on them unless they were boosting, but I learned so much about engine building, fixed a car that has sentimental value, learned how to pin connectors, and learned car electronics! Videos like this help me prepare for my future k24!
This video ties in nicely with the ktuner conversion harness wiring. But a missing link: if ktuner ecu is used for a k24 swap with an rsx type s engine harness, do we need to swap the crank angle sensor from the k24 to rsx?
I was gonna ask that. But I’m doing the same and it runs. But throws the code at the moment, either my crank trigger plate is backwards or the sensor is bad. I’ve tried every way to wire the sensor.
@@VTECAcademy thanks for the respond, i had an issue that I was troubleshooting. I did figure it out tho, the 5V test wasnt needed. this video actually helped me haha.
I need to add something to this, which is common sense yes. But, when you shave down the k24 sensor and re pin the plug on the k20 harness you can bend the terminals on the sensor and it will throw that p0335 code. I have been dealing with this code for like a week now and never bothered to look at the terminals of the sensor which i bent.
We have used this solution a couple of times at the race track when the proper part wasn't available. We always call it a temporary fix, but will ofter leave like that for months sometimes. I haven't run into the problem you are talking about, but I will be careful if we have to use this solution in the future.
Hey brian would de pinning a 8th gen si stock harness for the k20 camshaft position sensors (intake) sensor getting a code p0339. Would a k24 work if able to de-pinned?
Iv got a k24a2 from a type s accord 06 auto can i use that harness in a eg swap like can i delete the dbw and will the conversion harness work really keen to know
You could just get a 2003 accord throttle body. It will connect directly to the intake from the stock k24a2. I pulled one out of an 03 at a pick your own part yard and it ran me $42. Came with the TPS and IACV on it.
Great tutorial 👍 can this be done with the knock sensor as well? Or can u just cut the k24 knock sensor wire and reconnect them to the type s engine harness? Thanks
Whichever you prefer as long as the connector and sensor match. K20 with K20, K24 with K24. I personally cut the plug off and soldered on one that matched.
hey brian i got no spark on my k24tsx i have no spark and the only codes i am getting is a crank sensor code and a mulite plex code you think it haves to do with the crank angle sensor ??? i followed what you said on the video and still nothing do you have a email we can communicate with thanks in advance i have a ktuned harness p0335 and p0600 thanks again
Thanks for the video. Im wondering if u could help me out. I have a 03 ep3 with a jdm k24a engine with ep3 engine harness and kpro v4. I just swapped by engine harness to a 03 rsx type S and now after installing the harness I can't get the car started. I install new base map and it still won't start just cranks. My issue is way worse than this, K24z7 engine which has 60 tooth sensor at rear of engine. Might be a matter of swapping timing covers and adding the front sensor. not sure if it will work yet.

Hmm, I ran the shifter cables underneath the car through the exhaust tunnel, and in between the sub frame and the firewall. No problem with the heater core. Added benefit when you mount the shifter box 2 inches under the floor of the car is the stock interior trim pieces can still be used.

That kind of works. The solution is to buy the Kpower Industries timing cover so you can add the front sensor. No stock timing chain cover works.
