How many people get to play Anna live on stream with her mum commentating? Best experience in 50 years of playing chess. Yes, you would have thought I’d have learnt to calculate by now!
Malcom seems like such a sweet gentleman. While watching the stream, after he had just suffered a heartbreaking lost in one of the worse ways possible, could see he had a chuckle or two with you about something before leaving the table. P.S. I'm enjoying the beautiful cinematographic introductions to your recaps. Very well done!
"You don't get a bad position from one mistake. You get a bad position from several mistakes in a row." -Pia Cramling. I'm totally going to remember that one...
I love your commentary, Pia's commentary, your attitude towards losses, mistakes, blunders (on both sides) and your attitude towards your opponent. Keep playing this beautiful game and keeping being yourself, Anna! Much love!
Thank you for all the kind comments. If you think this mistake was bad, don’t look at the end of my game in round 1. How to get PTSD at the chessboard 😂
The chess excitement for me this week was discovering that I have a 'Pia Cramling number" (like Morphy number) of 2, and a Bellon number of 2. In fact, that has been true since the Hastings 1985 tournament where your parents also played each other. Maybe it was the first time your parents met? My connection to them is having played John Fedorowicz when he and I were both teenagers in New Jersey. I was rated 1300s, he was rated 1800s and improving quickly when I played him. The game was at a club where the strongest player to often show up was Mike Valvo. Valvo was 2260 at the time, but later 2500 and along with Botvinnik, was a leader in the quest to strengthen chess play by computers. Valvo had played Najdorf, so that was cool to find out also just a year or two ago, I think when reading Valvo's obituary. The chess community is large and small at the same time. I also found it amazing that the oldest game shown for Pia in the database I searched, was a draw against Kasparov, in a tournament for kids under age 16. Quite a way to start the list of games, drawing a future World Champion. It was also amazing to see her results against some 2600+ players when still a teenager. Starting out 2-0 against Korchnoi is pretty amazing! Wins and draws against other strong grandmasters. Maybe the first time they played her, they thought a cute girl with a rating so much lower than theirs was not anything to worry about? I watched most of your games in Reykjavik live, or soon after. This one I missed. I am glad it was not one more example of your problems being caused by unnecessary time trouble, even if it really should have been if he didn't blunder. It pains me to watch you see a very good move in 30 seconds, and then not move for 30 minutes. I know that habits are difficult to change, but that habit will need to change if you want to improve. You can't give opponents time odds every game, without enough compensation!
I am so glad that I found your channel and I am now committed to learning chess. I can finally consistently beat the idiot 250 bot on the Chess website. I love your commentary explaining your thought process with each move. You have ignited a long lost spark in me ! thank you
Early advice: give your king space. Everyone under 700 constantly hangs a back rank mate. They castle which is mentally "safe" and then completely forget that the pawns only block the front.
From her last video to now she has gone from: - boy was I wrong... I don't know why I said that, I never say that to - BOY WAS I WRONG! I love this sentence!!!
He kind of Blundered was playing a strong game and could’ve made it a lot more difficult with his Bishop pair but putting his king where she was able to get the discovery check with her Bishop cost him the game
@@michaelmassaro4375 Yes, more that he blundered than that she tricked him, not a true swindle. However she did keep active which gave her better chances of something happening.
You and your family are such a treasure in the chess world. Absolutely loved watching your games and Pia's live analysis. Thank you for including us in your journey!
Shout out to your mother commentating! I loved every second of it. Explaining why which move is the best, what might look more natural and what you will probably play.
It's like mindfulness to see your games. I learn alot, I love Annas energy and spirit and I love Pia when she comments when Anna is playing. Such an enjoyable moment. 🤗🥰🇸🇪
Pia should definitely have her own board when she analyzes the game, showcasing all the possible moves. And keep the other board showing the actual game progress position. I found that aspect really enjoyable!
I might like that dual board set up, (one for the actual game, and the other for options), because when a tuber goes off on quick tangents of other possibilities, it adds massively to my confusion. I lose all concept of the game in play.
If you've got a generally defensive position, unless there's an obvious threat like a pin or battery, the corner is almost always better, even though it looks stupid. You probably can't move, but you certainly can't be attacked through the wall.
In judo tournaments, I always tried to get opponents to underestimate me, where most puffed up and tried to look more intimidating. They were unprepared and by the time they figured it out, they were already questioning their skill.
Those glasses look really good on you. I must say that I enjoy your open and candid attitude and your competitiveness. I am not a chess player, but I do realise now how exciting the game can be.
Hi what about pawn to D4 attacking the queen at 11:20 and forcing him to move away and gain some terrain. Plus he can’t go e4 or f3 with the queen after to attack your rook because you can defend and counter attack with your bishop B7. Also it kind of opens the way for bishop B7 and queen C6 threatening a check mate on G2 if you find a way to make his bishop B5 move away somehow. Anyway I think you can get at least one tempo from this move
Like they say in American football, "Any given Sunday." Rating might indicate experience, but you have to play the game. Preparation, effort, and execution are almost everything. Imagination and stamina count, too. You kept your composure and played to win. Fate was with you. Good game.
Hi Anna. Just an opening repertoire idea (which you may have already tried). As black, after 1. e4 c5; 2. Nf3 Nc6; 3. d4 cxd4; 4 Nxd4 e5; 5. Nb5, I've seen you play 5 ...a6 going into a solid but slightly worse Lowenthal. How about 5 ... d6 instead, followed by a6 going into a Kalashnikov. This has got quite popular and is said to be easier to learn than the Sveshnikov as the strategic themes are clearer.
You played a good game for the most part. Good lessons. Now have a little more confidence, go with your gut, and prepare your backup options. Best of luck on your next game
@0:07 figure you thinking or lookin at some one else, the stare at the camera @0:16 is top notch, I enter verdict of not guilty(for of me of course) , lets continue @0:20 all is forgivin,
I’m surprised he didn’t see Ba3 coming when he moved to f1 that was a real Boo boo I think that’s why he resigned it was a really tough game up to that point but even like you said sometimes lower rated players will be more adept at making Blunders your Rooks were so strong but he also had the Bishop pair and could’ve made this game even tougher Great Win Anna I’m glad you are aware of the possible moves that your opponent can make against you you have great board vision that’s key to success Keep up the Great Work and Good Luck in future Games

Nice game!

"You don't get a bad position from one mistake. You get a bad position from several mistakes in a row." -Pia Cramling. I'm totally going to remember that one...
As Malcolm makes one mistake.
Pia is D’a Bomb !
It’s a nice quote but thinking about it, that isn’t always true I’m afraid 😅
The Botez sisters know that one mistake is sufficient, as with their namesake gambit.
Pia underestimates power of 500elo.
Anna's mom's commentary is delightful. You might think she's narrating a footbal match.😄
Pia is the best, she's always on for chess
I don't really know the rules of chess but your mums commentary makes it all sound very exciting.
Rules are easy, playing well is hard
It's exciting when you're in a winning position but gets boring when you lose a lot like me😂
Chess is really easy to learn and really hard to master.

Anna needs merch with that all over coffee cups shirts
as long as there is never a faulty batch with spelling mistakes😱
@@davewright8206 the joke would lose its punchline but be funny in its own right so win-win??
Love that serious look at 0.16...well done on the win.
She really took time out of her game to glare at the camera for the sake of the introduction montage? haha!
"In this position my bishop just becomes a big pawn in a hat". 😂
