  • In this video I review the New Balance Fresh Foam X Vongo V5, a maximum cushion stability shoe from New Balance. Some say it's similar to the New Balance 1080 V11 but with added features to provide support for overpronators. Check out my review to see what I thought after running in it for the past month and clocking up around 80km / 50 miles, in the shoe.

    I over pronate extremely bad and currently wear the Wave inspire 17 which hold my ankle very well and I always land straight. But I am concerned about the lack of cushion for long miles. These look a great option. Great review.

      Thanks, I think you'll find this shoe nice and cushioned. I've run distances up to 30km in it now and it's really comfortable. I wouldn't describe myself as a severe overpronator but I do overpronate quite a bit and I've found these shoes are keeping me stable.

      Hi Chris and everyone :
      After 5 days of walking in the v5 , I can state the following points from my own personal experience :
      1. It's comfortable out of the box.
      2. Didn't take time to break in.
      3. Felt little warmth under left foot.
      4. Didn't help much in stability in left foot...no problem with the right foot.
      5. I tried many other brands stability shoes and I still have pain with left calf..same situation with the v5.
      6. Perfect for slow base walking , with no issues at all.
      Best wishes for all 🙋🏻‍♂️🕊️

    Always thankful for your stability shoe reviews. I am curious how you compare the max cushion of the vongo vs the gts 21 and gts 20. Both shoes I personally have and love. But never tried a max cushion shoe. I need to stop watching shoe reviews as it makes me want to go shopping :) I also like that color way. As someone who takes a 2e I find that Brooks color way choices are a little uninspired. Or I just don't have the choice in colors locally.
    Keep up the great work.

      Thanks Chris. I'd say that the Fresh Foam mid sole in the Vongo is a bit softer than the Adrenaline GTS 21, although I'd wear both shoes on my longer runs , where I'm locking for comfort over the longer distances. I like to have several shoes that I can rotate, that will react a little differently to my feet/legs.

    Man I hope I can find these in a store so I can try these out. Stability shoes are good because I overpronate as well, and I think overall they're just safer to run in, and I can even run in them in the winter because even thought there's no ice grip, when you're running the best way to prevent you from falling is to take stable confident steps.

    I’m considering these and have been waiting for some reviews, so thank you. It’s a toss up between these and the Saucony Endorphin Shift 2. I like the stiff rocker effect in the Shift, which protects my arthritic big toes (I’m about to retire a pair of version 1). Can’t decide if I’m better sticking to what I know though.

    Hey Chris greet review mate. I’ve always ran in neutral shoes (many, many pairs lol) but picked an injury up in my last marathon and have tried these to try and protect it a little but. Got to admit, liked my first run in them. Having had 2 pairs of the 1080s, it’s very similar. My uk 10.5 came in at 316g but felt lighter. Just wondering how you would complete this to the Kayano 28 as looking at a pair of them as well?

    In your comparison review of this shoe along with the asics and brooks, you showed that the toe area had worn a hole in the upper. Did it become worse? Did it make the shoe unable to run in? Really want to try the shoe, but want to make sure it will last. Thanks.

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  2 года назад +2

      I've done 420km in the shoe now. The hole hasn't got any worse and it only happened to one shoe. It doesn't impact the performance of the shoe. The Vongo V5 has been my go to shoe for long runs during my current marathon training block and I still really like it.

  • @amyrhonorato8798
    @amyrhonorato8798 3 года назад +1

    This is an amazing shoe the cushion doesn't fail to deliver comfort ever and its nice and responsive too you don't just sink into the shoe. That being said the tongue does move around for me and sometimes that can create some discomfort so I think that this shoe would benefit from a gusseted tongue. Another thing is that for me the rubber has worn a good bit after about 60 miles (although that is a problem I have with most shoes I tend to wear through them really fast). Anyone looking for a good and cushioned stability shoe should take a good look at this shoe because its really really good. Also does anyone have an idea of why I wear running shoes so fast or any suggestions on how to help that ??

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  3 года назад

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Vongo. Excessive outsole wear can be caused by several factors including the type of surfaces you run on, whether you are a forefoot, mid foot or heel striker, how heavy you land, wearing the shoe when not running in it (eg driving), to name a few.
      I heel strike so the rubber on my shoes tends to wear down on the heel first.

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  3 года назад

      Just in the process of filming a "Best Stability Shoe" video, so stay tuned for that. I tend to retire shoes once they have a good amount of distance in them or if I just don't get on with them. Due to the lower volume of running since my Ultra, I still have plenty of miles in my current shoes, so not planning to add to the rotation for a while.

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  3 года назад

      I don't consider my feet to be wide. I've never worn wide fitting shoes in any other brand except for New Balance but I needed wide for the original New Balance Fuelcell Prism but not the Prism V2 and also needed wide in the Vongo V5. Could just be the shape of my feet but as I say, I've never needed wide in other brands.

    Thanks for sharing! I'm currently looking to add another pair of stability shoes to rotate along for long runs along with my current Saucony Hurricane 23s. Do you think its necessary/important to have shoes with different offsets in your rotation? (Both the hurricanes and the Vongo V5 are 8mm)

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  3 года назад +1

      Personally I'd be less concerned about different offsets. 8mm is a fairly common offset these days and having two pairs of stability with the same offset should be fine. Personally I like my stability shoes to use different approaches to providing the support. The Vongo does this differently to the other shoes in my rotation.

  • @steve9377
