This is why I hate when designers use the word seamstress as an insult, this people are beyond amazing! Designers would be nothing without them

what's wrong with the word seamstress?
***** There's NO thing wrong with the title seamstress it just doesn't always accurately convey or apply to all the other areas of apparel production work (and jobs) that's all. Not everyone in apparel production on the highest levels to the "B" level actually "sews" either by hand or machine. Some Apparel Tech work is pattern drafting, cutting, marking, pressing, textile prep... Some Apparel Techs (including "seamstresses") do all or many of those and some just specialize in one or a couple.
Sometimes the title seamstress doesn't always convey the extremely technical and complex levels of garment production. It's also, unfortunately, commonly applied to someone's grandmother or a home/craft sewer or someone who works in alterations.
From an industry standard the common term is "stitcher".
The main point is most people in the industry claiming to be "fashion designers" don't know half of what goes on in a pro workroom or what it really takes/means to be or how to work with an Apparel Tech or "seamstress"/stitcher. Hell most of them don't even know how to sew.
Coco Chanel actually said about Cristobal Balenciaga that he was the only one who is great enough to be called couturier, seamstress. All the other designer were only usual fashion drawers, she said. I think she can't be more right. The seamstress is higher than the designer.
A seamstress works exactly as the designer wants, in the way they wants the beads arranged, the crystals placed and coming down to which fabric, which bead, etc. They just do what they are told to do. And do you really think a fashion designer can't sew ? Almost all of them started designing dresses by themselves. Now they employ skilled people to do it for them. It is very sad that people say things just by watching videos !!!

The 3d printed checkered fabric was beyond words. I hope Chanel goes further with this idea!
I don't think it's 3D printed. I've seen a Turkish artisan do something similar by hand. Since this is Haute Couture I'm guessing it's probably hand-made.

So much goes into making these outfits, a lot of people take it for granted. When everything is hand sewn and maticulously prepared there is a whole new appreciation not just for the garment but the people making them as well.

+shawolshawol No, not all those are the ones caught on camera. Also they're not seamtresses they're Apparel Techs and artisans... Those not in white coats are usually the apprentices (or juniors) they should be young as it takes 15-20 years to become good. Those in white coats are the Premieres - the elders who have been doing this for over 30+ years...

I become cross whenever people misuse the word "couture," and these making-of videos should explain why. So much tedious work goes into making these clothes come to life, and no small detail goes unnoticed. To make something that is "haute couture," is to make something that takes hundreds of hours to embroider, sew, make and design. I have so much respect for Karl Lagerfeld's modern-yet-timeless designs, and the workers of the ateliers that go to such great lengths to have these designs come to life. ♥

LOL For realz! I know they try to go for something new, a unique look, but those are hairdon'ts, not hairdos. Sadly, when the H&M is so bad, so weird, it detracts from the clothing IMHO. Ewwwww! :)

sydbarrettmadcap It’s called style. Not much people have it, and it’s okay if you don’t understand it. A famous Vogue-writer once said: “ Some people just have that eye for beauty, who can see beauty in something that hasn’t been accepted by the common opinion yet, as it didn’t have the time to accommodate itself to society.”. But that doesn’t mean that you’re wrong just because you don’t see the beauty in this yet. Still, think about it. Chanel is selling more than any other luxury brand except Louis Vuitton. This must be right somehow.

Dontstopshaking None of this much effor on details is noticed on the runways cause the models walk fast and so many at the same time. Then you get these huge runway set ups and many celebrity guests close ups. It's all very distracting and I'm still here for the clothes.
