This is the ideal drivers car to me/for me. Love thats its NA, manual, lightweight, small. Its an old school recipe for an enthusiast that just doesn't care for all the other modern bloated, heavy, tech loaded, insane HP stuff. Cant wait to own one
Thanks Jake for another great and descriptive review of the Toyota. I almost feel like I’m driving car with how thoroughly you describe the driving experience-thanks!
Would not have guessed that there were real suspension setup differences between them - granted, they're pretty minor, but still, it shows some effort. Also really impressed they all have a limited slip differential, especially at this price point!
Nice review man. I actually just got back from Lime Rock Park this weekend, lol. Went to the IMSA races. I've been waiting since last November for this car. Finally got an allocation for a premium manual trim coming in next month. Would like to know how easy it is to get used to the manual transmission (clutch bite point etc). I've never owned a manual car but have driven quite a few with mixed results. The only clutch I've got used to is the impreza, mainly because it is really easy to tell where the bite point is. While the Ford Focus ST's I've driven seem to be more vague. After watching quite a few videos on this car, I'm guessing it's somewhere in between? Much love from Boston
Hey man, I've been on the waitlist for a while as well. I've pretty much seen all GR86 reviews on RUclips from the U.S., Japan, and Korea (It just came out in Korea, and there's nothing but overwhelmingly positive reviews & ofc sold out) - pretty much everyone says it's an easy car to learn on even if you are new to manual transmission and/or sports driving. Congrats on the allocation!
Congrats on the allocation! The clutch is pretty easy on these, fairly light without being just an on/off switch but handles traffic without killing your left leg. This GR86 was part of a string of five cars we reviewed back to back (one per week) with manual transmissions, and it was definitely on the easier end of "jump in and go" without taking a long time to get used to anything. You'll be good. Come join us for our Trackcross in October with your new car! www.outmotorsports.com/event/rainbow-road-trackcross-october-2022/
Have an order in for a BRZ Limited manual (WR Blue), even though technically stock for stock the BRZ is a better car that just needs more camber I can't get over how great the neptune blue and the GR86 looks over the BRZ. I wonder if the stock throttle map on the GR86 makes it not as usable compared to the BRZ throttle map during high speed sweepers where you want to stay one speed at the edge of grip. I just can't justify to myself paying more than 3k markup for it and the market is crazy. I found the exact GR86 I wanted but they wouldn't go below 6k markup and the adult in me wouldn't let me do that even though I could afford it. Perhaps I'll get a GR86 later when the market cools down. Yeah the FA24 is in the Ascent but the Ascent FA24F only has direct injection and 10.6 compression with a turbo. BRZ/GR86 has both a port and direct with 12.5 on the F24D. Subaru said they didn't want to turbocharge it because of CoG concerns but we all know it's because of cost and non-competition to the WRX/Supra. Anyway for all you GR86/BRZ owners if you want more power in the mid range (seriously like 5 hp) remove the charcoal filter in the air box (dyno proven). No high flow filter is needed. Anyway enjoyed the review, good job.
It's the better transmission in this specific car by FAR. Your options are a manual or a torque-converter automatic that began its life in the Lexus IS 250. The automatic listens to you and holds gears (yay) but is slow to shift (boo) and has really long gearing, which makes the car feel slower than it is (double boo). Apply context and critical thinking and the comment makes 100% sense.
@@OutMotorsports its the better transmission based on OPINION ... I can bet that auto transmission can outshift 95% of the people in the manual version. Next the auto has manual mode so YOU shift when YOU want to and once again, it will shift FASTER than YOU or faster than 95% of the people ... There are a handful of people in this world that can out shift an automatic. This automatic is not your 70's or 80's or even 90's technology. So, you should take your own advise when it comes to using critical thinking because clearly you didn't use any when you made that comment.
lol yep exactly! I'm going to buy a new GR86 with the automatic for sure! Zero mods, I don't believe in doing mods. Just enjoy my sexy sports car in Neptune Blue!
???manuals of any performance car that offers the option are more heavily sought after because not only are the transmissions usually better but they’re all around more fun to drive. The only time I recommend getting an automatic transmission is if the car is so fast that a manual makes it dangerous to take your hand off the wheel.
The six-speed automatic isn't *bad* in the 86/BRZ, it will listen to you and let you sit against the rev limiter as long as you want. Gearing is longer and makes the car feel slower though, and the shift response is also slow. Keep in mind, the automatic in these cars began its life in the 2005 Lexus IS 250 (Toyota's A960E) and transmission tech has evolved quite a bit since then. Assuming you can drive a manual or want to learn, it is *easily* the better transmission choice.
If you enjoy driving, and you should if you are buying THIS car, the manual is the one to get. The auto is for people who just don't care. But why would they choose THIS car?

I drift into corners all day with this bitch. It’s a fantastic car to get heads turning when you busting some moves.
excellent video. best explanation of GR86/BRZ differences i have ever heard. nice work.
Glad you enjoyed!
Great color and fun car. Love this channel.
Thanks for watching!

i love this car thanks for this clear description

Toyota and Subaru wanted the cars to behave differently and it's nice to see that they took different approaches to making the car rotate!
I been hearing complaints about the sloppy steering compared to the 1st gen. Wonder if it’s a way to fix that? 🤔
Dunno what's sloppy about it, if anything they made it a bit better.
How tall are you? And what’s your inseam? Did you actually fit with a helmet??
6'1" with 32" inseam. I fit with a helmet but it's really tight.
This is the FIRST car in the US without rear reflectors!

fun vs real fun is different. If you have one or no legs, we completely understand
And the MSRP IS OVER 30 grand for that piss poor HP and Torque wth
Power and torque aren't everything, and if you believe they are then this is not the car for you.
@@OutMotorsports thats the best response to that objection of this car ive ever seen.

@@TylerPinkney You can enjoy driving with the auto too. Auto also comes with sport mode button, unlike the manual. Don't be jelly now.
