I live in Mississippi. Where Peavey is located and was born. My first amp was a 5150. Yep. I've played all other brands over the years and my goto amp is my Red Stripe 112 Peavey. I placed a Blue Marvel in it. It can get almost any tone I want. The best thing about Peavey is I can take ANY amp to their shop and they'll repair it for $50-$75. That's customer service. I collect Peavey. It's easy around here. Anyway, enough about me and Peavey. I just found your channel and I subscribed. I enjoy the rambling and jokes as much as the gear reviews.
The CD player input is what really sells it. Take that boutique amps! Who needs hand wired components when you can hook up your brand new Sony Discman??
Hey I have one of these!. My brother is a commercial electrician, and he found it and a Epiphone Special electric guitar in the dumpster. No joke, a dumpster. The guitar was covered in cooking oil but the amp was clean. Probably some girlfriend threw out her ex's stuff. Cleaned them up and still have them.
I played Peavey Bandits all through the 1980s into the 90s. I used them at all my gigs. I always brought 2. Depending on the night I'd start with one turned on and switch on the second amp if it got really crowded and I needed more sound. I've owned Fender amps and Marshalls but the peaveys never let me down. Your amp sounded great. My first amplifier was a Fender Deluxe Reverb, next was a marshall, next was Music Man, next was Vintage Fender Twin, and next were Peaveys.
I have had the Peavey Bandit 112 currently I have the Peavey Studio Pro 65, I bought it because it weighs a little less and with 65 watts I have enough, they are both excellent amplifiers, they do not have built-in effects but they do. a pure sound close to valves, no digital amp satisfies me, these red stripe are a real marvel.
They called the master volume “post gain” because part of the trans tube technology was that you could actually get a drive from the output amplifier as well as from preamp, like you can with a tube amp. Normally with solid state amps only the preamp can be overdriven.
Woa that's an awesome little amp there, go Peavey! First 'amp' was a homemade headphone amp a friend made. First 'big' amp was a Peavey Bandit 65W (12" speaker) bought in 1980s, used for years but it was finally stolen in the 90s along with my favourite guitars. Amazingly, I still have the Peavey Companion 15W (8" speaker) I also bought in the 80s. Can't use it in my old apartment so it's amp sims and computer headphones for me.
My first amp was a 10 watt Holmes amp that I bought because my last name is Holmes. My second was a Peavy Stereo Chorus 400. I currently own a Fender Champion 20 and am thinking of upgrading to something better
I couldn't remember the model of my peavey amp (which was my 1st guitar amp) so I just dug through my guitar pics folder on my PC and sure enough, It was a Blazer 158 lol. It was a solid amp that did the job.
My first amp was a Project\ Kit\ home built by my Uncle Reg. It was a transistor Amp approx 25 watt head and separate Cab. It looked quite professionally built and had a spring reverb tank as well!. My uncle gave me and my brother and cousins our first Guitars and taught us those first few chords bless him
Haha that’s awesome! My first amp was the Peavey Special 212. Had it from like Jr High through the first couple years of college, so probably like 7 or 8 years. It was a pretty badass amp. I think about it every once in a while and sometimes think I should track one down again someday the same way you did, for nostalgia’s sake.
I bought this amp back in 2002 together with my first electric guitar - the guitar I gave away (was a J&D LP-style (housebrand of MusikStore-Cologne)) but the Amp is still here and in top condition :)
First amp was a Traynor guitar mate (no idea what wattage, or anything else about it) First guitar was a Rossetti or Rosaletti (chunk of wood covered in vinyl) strat shape.
My first amp (late 70s) was a Brentwood, bought from a Woolco department store. It was about the same size as that Peavey, solid state, with a little 6 or maybe 8 inch speaker, one volume control, and a tone control. No gain or preamp.
My first amp was a 10 watt kustom bass amp, i got it for free when i bought my first guitar on a pawn shop. I still have it, good (of course bassy) sound
My first amp was a Samick LA10 Had it for a while and loved it then the input jack solder points broke from the circuit board so my dad took me to my local music shop and got me a Fender Champion110. Omg I loved that amp! After that moved up to a Peavey Bandit 112 (the silver stripe version) loved that amp even more. From there I've had all kinds; Marshall, Line6, Fender, Peavey.
I just bought a Peavey Studio pro 40. It sounds just as good as anything I've ever played through. I used to think they were junk amplifiers, I was wrong. And it only cost me $80. Made in USA too. Peavey is a very underrated amplifier. My first amplifier was a modeling version of a Crate. I don't miss it at all.
Peavy Studio Pro 110 with an after market celestion 12” speaker, maybe from the person who owned it previously. Or the person before that. It still rocks! (mostly)
Bought my first guitar as a freshman in college which was a classic white SSS Squier Strat from a cook at the restaurant I worked at and needed an amp. Went to a local guitar shop with a small amount of cash and bought a used Peavey Bandit 112. It was soooo loud and I had no idea what anything did. Still wish I hadn’t sold it, it was a good amp. Now I have a bunch of amps and mainly use my Spark to model whatever I want.
Cool that the screws of the handle go all the way through the electronicals....so if it shortcircuits, and you pick up the amp with the handle, it's hammertime! That's some proper engineering that!
My first amp was a mid to late 60s Fender tube amp that I’m pretty sure was a Princeton Reverb. I bought it used along with a Fender Jaguar and the pots were pretty scratchy and they both needed work so I sold them at a garage sale for ~$200. Hindsight is 20/20.
My first guitar and amp l bought at "Eds Guitar" Bird Rd here in Miami..an odd ball match but being 12 years old l didnt know any better.. a 78 Gibson SG Jr and a Acoustic 10 watt amp, looking back l cant believe they let me out of the store with that amp, no one explained it wasnot intended for overdrive tones and ld be better off with a Peavey or some other brand..
My first amp was a Peavey that took two D batteries and was portable or plug-in. I forget the model but it was the smallest amp they made at the time, circa 1985. It was good enough to start with and I played my Squier strat through it for months before becoming dissatisfied with the tone. Then I got a Ross which was about 20- or 30-watts and very loud with a Fane speaker. But the tone was still lacking. But I had accumulated a number of pedals, from a DOD distortion to a bunch of Boss pedals with their own floorboard/carrying case. What I did was I used the Peavey and the Boss Turbo Overdrive to push the Ross and got some very hairy distortion, but it wasn't the best distortion. About a year later I got my first solid amp, which was a Marshall JMP 100 stack. I drove that thing with a 70s era MXR Distortion + and it was awesome. I also experimented with a Rat, Tube Screamer and other pedals. I played a lot of amps but decided one of my favorites was a friend's Princeton Reverb and I loved gigging with that and a few pedals. It did the job beautifully.
My first Blazer was a bit faulty. Some caps was bad, and it sounded amazing and very tube-like, but sometimes it began to overdrive too much. I have recapped it, and it lost it's vibe and mojo with it's malfunction
@@landonbailey In fact I've felt in love with red stripes, so I've bought envoy 110, Studio Pro 112, XXL head, and I wish to find Bandit for reasonable price.
My first amp was a 1967 Alamo challenger with a Kramer pacer oddly enough. I recently gave it back to the friend who gave it to me when his died. I’ve gotta an S-ton of Peavey amps from tube to tube and SS to solid state. Audition 110 is my favorite lately.
Hey buddy..just got power cable from Sweetwater to a 2003: blazer 158 I had given to me...I'm stoked..it has the USA made blue marvel speaker made in Mississippi in it..got JHS screamer as well..diving in shortly..lol..I'm stoked
My first amp was a Dansette. Yes, you read that right, an old school record player. Bought it in a pawn shop for a couple of quid and wired my guitar to the pickup. It's a wonder I didn't electrocute myself. But, it was valve (tube) driven and had volume and tone knobs. It probably sounded horrible, but I didn't notice.
I had an early (late 50's) Gibson tiny combo. My dad picked it up from a friend that no longer played. It made noise but that was all. I thought it was terrific at the time (8 years old). You could say it matched my play.... Ha!
That's a nice little amp. My first amp was Marshall solid-state combo. I don't remember the model number but it had 2 x 12" speakers and "Valvestate" on the front. Maybe 100w? It had a 2 switch pedal for switching the overdrive and something else (reverb? It had lots of knobs). I didn't have a guitar at the time (1998-ish) but always planned on getting one so when I was offered the amp in trade (a good deal for me) I took it. Fast-forward almost a year and still no guitar, a friend who played in a band asked if he could try it out and ended up making me an offer for it that was a tidy profit for me. I wish I still had it as he made it sound really damn good and it was better than what I have now.
A bit of Googling tells me that the amp I owned actually had a tube preamp with solid state power amp section. It was a Marshall Valvestate VS265. It had 3 channels and a 3 switch pedal with a spring reverb and 130w (2 x 65w into 2 x 12" Celestion Goldbacks). Like this one reverb.com/p/marshall-valvestate-vs265-3-channel-2-x-65-watt-2x12-stereo-guitar-combo I wish I still had it now.
My first amp was Marshall MG50CFX, then I got the Fender Champion 100... both great amps, so far these are my only amps and I'm doing the best I can with both of them... I would definitely recommend them for any beginner
In 90 I got my first amp it was a dean markley 10watt practice amp it came with the guitar I bought from a guy. I traded it like a month later towards a Peavy pacer 150 from the 80s that once belonged to the Bentmen from Boston. Bought it from their sound guy.
My first amp was a little 15watt VOX amp with a 10” speaker. Can’t remember the exact model. Then I was given a mid 90s peavey bandit 112 used that for a couple years, then I bought a 2014 Fender Mustang IV. That thing was sweet. Then I sold that and now I’m rockin a 2018 Peavey Classic 30. Now I want to get a marshal. Lol 😎👍🏼
My first amp was a 10watt something I got used along with a guitar . The first I bought new was a Peavey Envoy 110 in the mid 90's . I just gave it away with the guitar. Now I use a Vox VT40x and it's awesome 😁
Gorilla GG-25 combo...back in 1988! Btw, I had a Blazer too (years later, for bedroom practice), in the late 90s...no red stripe though. Great little amp!
My first amp was a 1980 Marshall JMP 2204 and a 4×12 cab... was 350 for the head and 150 for the cab in 1990. Was a ton of money for a kid. A lot of lawns were mowed for that. Still have it. Never had a practice amp before that as I had already played for 5 or 6 years by that time on a classical guitar
My first amp was a Fender RAD from the early 90s. Still have it. My buddy had the Peavey RAGE 108. The thing was tiny but it did have reverb which my amp did not. We sounded terrible (both in musicality and tone) but we had fun. Also, in my neck of the woods the place to go for gear was Musicplex in those days.
My first amp was a Peavey as well! Not quite the same as yours, but I don't truly remember stuff like that from the mid-90s... Rage doesn't sound quite right either though it could've been... Anyway. It came as a bundle with my first-ever electric guitar, an all-black Epiphone Les Paul Special II. Man, I jammed that thing a long time, and even got to use it on stage years later (mic'ed up, of course). Sold both the guitar and the amp together a decade later, and still regret it. Ah well.
First amp was a Peavey Backstage 50 from the pre-TransTube days of Peavey solid state amps. That was one of the worst amps I've ever used. Thankfully new guitar players have tons of great sounding affordable gear, as well as well built, solid sounding guitars and basses to choose from at the entry level.
My first amp was a Regal 15W that had no tone what so ever. It sucked ! However, I did get a Blazer 158 later on for a practice amp. It was the silver stripe model, and i regret letting it go. If I ever find another, I'll get it. Then I'll have a Bandit, Studio Pro, and Blazer, all silver stripe.
Now I'm wondering how my first amp sounds to my modern ears. It was an old Kona KA10(I think) amp. Only a bass, trebel, and volume knob. I was in hog heaven when I finally got a Zoom G1XN multi effects pedal. Both of those model names are just a best guess cause I can remember what they look like, the brand, but not the model.
My first amp was the Fender Mustang 1 V2 which I bought in January. Cheap amp, great tones and the cleans is awesome. Finally upgraded to a Marshall Origin 20 combo two weeks ago! Still loving both amps
A little late to this video, but my first amp was a Peavey Rage 158 in about 1993. I bought it brand new from a Mr. Entertainment music store in Alberta. I picked up that amp and a Vantek strat copy. I still have the guitar, but I sold the amp ages ago after I upgraded to a Bandit 112, which I also sold. I've been thinking about buying another Rage, but it seems hard to find one from the early 90's.
So I did some further digging, trying to remember which pevey I was given by my old man as my first amplifier. After looking around, I believe it was the Pevey Back Stage. It had one blue knob I think for gain. It was given to me alongside a teal burst Bentley Acoustic electric which I soon traded him for a squire bullet offset style something or other.....good times
My first one was indeed the Rage 158 ! I agree the distortion sounds really good and fat ! It just developed some weird noises after some time and i thought that it was my cheap guitar. I still have it ,watching me from the top of my wardrobe . This vid has a pretty high frequency of funny jokes 😄😄😄
Among my collection of amps (most tube / valve) is my little solid state Peavy Rage 158. Just mic it up and run it through the PA for big venues. Light and portable with awesome tones both clean and distorted. Killer amp!
Fender Mustang LT25. Got it a year ago when I started learning guitar. I hated it until recently after Fender finally updated it & you can tweak it via desktop software now. My electric guitar sucks, so I don't play it much, I play the acoustic 99.9% of the time.

My first amp was a Peavey, but it was for keyboards. It was really loud and very clean. This was the late 80s (I'm old).
Line 6 spider. 150 watts for playing every power chord.
A Peavy Audition 20. It had a great overdrive sound until I took it to Steve's for a checkup. It never sounded the same again.
Peavey rage 158
Yamaha GA-10. Still have it, but don't play with it since 2016, when I got a Boss Katana.
I returned to my Peavey Renown 40 years later after using same amp back in early to mid 80s and love it.The Peavey Renown is a rocking amp!!
I have a red stripe Rage, bought it around 2001 for practicing....still works perfectly! Peavey makes great amps!
I have the exact same one 👍
Good yes but my Boss Katana is better but I guess it’s normal because of the 25years difference.

My first amp was a Gorilla TC-35 35W Tube Cruncher Amp. Bought it back in 1989. I still have it.
Just bought it as my first and saw this vid the recommendation
My first amp was a little white Gorilla amp. I think it was 15W...mid 80s...wish I still had that thing for sentimental reasons
The CD player input is what really sells it. Take that boutique amps! Who needs hand wired components when you can hook up your brand new Sony Discman??
It's an aux in actually, a lot of amps still have it nowadays, you can plug your phone for example, but music through guitar speaker sounds shit

Same as The Rage, just with a reverb.
If you kick it you can get some strange sounds out of the springs.
My first amp is a Crate V5 tube amp. I still have it. I have purchased other amps since then but I will not sell it. A keeper.

That Blazer sounds really good to me. I love my Peavey Bandit (Red Stripe).
Sounds great

American made Rage 158 red stripe series, looked just like yours. I replaced the speaker with a Jensen Mod and it sounded great!

My first amp was a 10 watt kustom bass amp, i got it for free when i bought my first guitar on a pawn shop. I still have it, good (of course bassy) sound
My very 1st was part of a starter package in the Argos catalogue, but the actual 1st proper amp was a Peavey Bandit.

First amp, Squire Champ 25GR, still in my possession, still cranking!!
My first amp was Marshall MG50CFX, then I got the Fender Champion 100... both great amps, so far these are my only amps and I'm doing the best I can with both of them... I would definitely recommend them for any beginner
Thanks for sharing!
Lol
😎👍🏼
Sony boombox..plugged into the mic input. Its what I used for about a year.
I still remember my first amp, where I got it, the price.... because I got it today... a Marshall Code25.. Can't wait to start my journey.
ah nice! congrats
Thanks for sharing!
I haven't bought my first amp yet. But I've had my eye on a Vox Mini3 G2 after watching some of your other videos ;)
Those amps aren't bad. Just need to know how to run them. 🍻 I had a Kustom 15 from the 90s and black korean squier bullet strat.
The rage 158 had distorsion button
A knob, more like 2 knobs.
A clean channel and a distorted.
My first amp was a Hughes&Kettner Attax 80. Solid state German amp. Very solid and versatile. With a great reverb too!
When i got my first amp i was 13..that was 37 years ago..i cant remember. .the first one i remember was a small Crate combo amp..
Great little practice amp....the reverb tank makes it great....
Holy Crap Landon, I’m not going to walk, I’m going to run full speed to buy one of these near me for $40.00 that thing sounds incredible!
worth a shot! good deal
I love my acoustic but videos like this make me realise I need to buy an acoustic at some point, I’ve got some saving to do!
My first amp was a vox VT40X. Great amp all around and perfect for when I was a beginner. Upgraded to a Fender EC Twinolux
Champion 20 and 40 by FENDER! The best. Dot
Ah well.
Peavey sounds the best of all the small amps I have heard. Though the particular model you have isn't quite as good as the newer ones I have heard.
The first decent amp is the Peavey ENVOY110 with red stripe.I still love it and will never let it go.Good enough for small gigs.
thanks for sharing!
Landon is Mac in Always Sunny In Philadelphia.
I hope that's a good thing :)
Mine was a Guild thunder bass with a pair of 15” speakers. Bought it in 1967.
A 1990 Peavey Rage 158 "Blue Line" Made in USA
Now I'm wondering how my first amp sounds to my modern ears. It was an old Kona KA10(I think) amp. Only a bass, trebel, and volume knob. I was in hog heaven when I finally got a Zoom G1XN multi effects pedal. Both of those model names are just a best guess cause I can remember what they look like, the brand, but not the model.
I bought a used Peavy Bandit in 2001 I think it was a 50 Watt?
Peavey Rage was my first. 1989. Edit, just picked up a NOS Red stripe Rage to tool around the house with.

Thanks for the video. I'm considering grabbing one of these one Reverb TBH. I am impressed with it! How does it take pedals??
it sounds alright
My first amp was the Fender Mustang 1 V2 which I bought in January. Cheap amp, great tones and the cleans is awesome.
Finally upgraded to a Marshall Origin 20 combo two weeks ago! Still loving both amps
My first amp was a Fender frontman 15 watt back in 95, not a bad first amp and kept up with a drum kit
My first one was a Peavey Backstage 30 around 1980
A little late to this video, but my first amp was a Peavey Rage 158 in about 1993. I bought it brand new from a Mr. Entertainment music store in Alberta. I picked up that amp and a Vantek strat copy. I still have the guitar, but I sold the amp ages ago after I upgraded to a Bandit 112, which I also sold. I've been thinking about buying another Rage, but it seems hard to find one from the early 90's.
nice! do you recall the price in 93?
@@landonbailey Sorry, but that's too long ago for me to remember. Lol
Killer amp!
My first was a Crate GX15. I feel old now.
Fender Mustang LT25. Got it a year ago when I started learning guitar. I hated it until recently after Fender finally updated it & you can tweak it via desktop software now. My electric guitar sucks, so I don't play it much, I play the acoustic 99.9% of the time.
Dude your so damn funny...
The Jerry Seinfeld of guitar You Tubers!!

Perfect! 😆
