    Hozier showing some Avant-garde right hand techniques. Skip was a player of the Piedmont Blues, which was done with the Thumb and Pointer finger exclusively. Hozier playing Claw style position but not using his pointer finger, very strange

    • @angelamouse2412
      @angelamouse2412 5 лет назад +38

      I'm going to call it Hozier style finger technique since i recently learned he taught himself how to play

      It's probably because each of his fingers is as long as rulers! He had to fit the fingers in there somewhere. ;) But sitting here moving my own fingers it does seem more natural to not force the pointer down to the strings. The middle one seems to descend more easily than the pointer finger.

    The first time I ever heard Hozier, I thought I heard some Skip James influence in his guitar playing...and here he is playing a Skip James cover! I can't believe it! Also some of his song-writing reminds me of Skip James, the lyrics.
    I can see him in his attic bedroom at his parent's house listening to Skip James.

    Okay, this video is freaking me out. I just fell in love with Hozier last weekend when I heard his album all the way through for the first time. I couldn't stop listening, I bought his cd and tickets to see him in Portland next month. Today I was just thinking how much he reminds me of Jeff Buckley, and how sad and sudden his ending was.
    Hozier, sweetie, if you read this, please stay away from the fucking water, especially with your boots on. Jeff would probably still be here if he had just taken his boots off. I need to see you in a few weeks, and you're making me nervous here.

    Fantastic blues guitar and voice. If I didn't l know who this was and couldn't see his face I would think this was an original black blues singer. I spent many years immersed in those people down south and just want to attest to the greatness of this singer. I'm blown away!

    Absolutely in love with your music, your covers, your eyes, your presence as you play. I have been raised listening to 60's, 70's and 80's rock. Only in the past 4 years has blues and jazz been a large influence on me as a musician. Van Morrison to John Lee Hooker in blues has incredibly inspired me also. I'm truly a jazz enthusiast I love Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. My voice stylings have always fit better with jazz. Your voice is of an old soul that gives me goosebumps with every new song that I listen to. Have you ever been influences by jazz Andrew Hozier Byrns?

    If you think this is good there is something wrong with you. I have heard two covers of this kid and in that time both Screamin Jay Hawkins as Skip James (not fucking Alvin Youngblood Hart) turned around in their graves!!! This hipster kid should really stay away from playing the blues, far far away!!!

      please leave, you don't need to hate on him you have your own opinion but you don't need to be so rude. he's amazing and if you don't realize that than just don't listen to him because you obviously don't deserve to.

      I "need" to hate on him just as much as you "need" to defend him. If you think I'm being rude for telling it like it is then that's not my problem. Funny thing is that all of a sudden Skip James is mentioned in the title which wasn't there before my comment!

      haman0180 have your flawed opinion all you want but your calling someone you don't know "kid" is basically stupid and shows your superior complex for which it means having a discussion with you is senseless and a waste of time

      Yet you still take the time out of your day to respond. Owh the irony!

      +haman0180 Music, being the all inclusive form of expression as it is, I suppose no artist would "turn over in their grave" for someone experiencing joy in something they were to create. Just my 2c.
