Look at the lyrics to this song, it was written about their song Creep. And about exactly what you said, Creep gave them their fame but they were not happy with how it was the song that was keeping them alive. They left Creep out of their live sets for many years.

      This is our new song
      Just like the last one
      A total waste of time
      My iron lung.
      Amazing

The Bends is a truly great album, with many excellent songs on it, yet it's about 6/9 as far as ranking their albums. That's how good they are.

I’m sure everyone has said this, bc it’s true, do the “From the Basement: In Rainbows” sessions. Top tier. Top. Tier.

Definitely do How to Disappear Completely next, preferably the studio version , but if not, the "live at Canal Plus 2001" video on RUclips is great

Indeed Thom isn't necessarily a vocal virtuoso but I can't think of another singer that sings with as much emotion, for example nobody could cover 'Nude' and it give you goosebumps like Thom does. The Live From The Basement sessions are a must watch especially if you prefer to see bands playing live.

Need to check out their live set “from the basement” for the album In Rainbows.

I have seen them at least 5 times and I noticed they amp up the energy from their studio recordings at their live shows.

You can see them live in a recording with their various "In the Basement" series. The In Rainbows session in particular is beloved.

My Iron Lung is a direct response to Creep. "This is our new song. Just like the last one. A total waste of time. My Iron Lung."

I remember seeing Radiohead, first time, 1995 as a 16 year old in Norwich (East England), in a small venue of about 700 people, going absolutely. Fucking. Mental to this

Oh man, if you're starting out with knowing only Creep then strap on, you're in for a wild ride. Remember the feeling when you were just discovering King Gizzard? Yeah, that, but very different, but still somewhere in the spectrum of that feeling.

Or the very under rated Hail to the Thief . I've been listening to that a lot recently and thought this would have been the album to release after Ok Computer and before Kid A as it seems to be the missing link between styles.

What a banger of a song... was lucky enough to watch this live. You should listen to the studio version tho or an earlier version.

The Bends is my favourite and In Rainbows. They love hate Creep also. I don't think they play it anymore. But love that it put them on the map and gave them the money to do make the music they want.

You could argue Creep pushed them to distance themselves from it and really grow in their songwriting. If you want Radiohead as a guitar band, go for 'The Bends'. Great album.

Just a word on some of their life performance, Thom Yorke does have a tendency to sing the songs in a different way to the way they were recorded. I think it's probably cuz he gets bored of singing the older songs

I think you guys are making a big mistake, with not listening to the studio albums first ! You are missing out on the little subtleties in there music. Unless you just like head banging stuff. And yes you were right some people are drawn to the Peter Gabriel version of Genesis ,that love Radiohead.
