The so-called Fancy Feast alcohol stove made with a cat food can and a tomato paste can with a carbon felt wick is a definite upgrade to this stove. It also provides its own pot stand.

I started doing this but ended up just eating the cat food instead.

I've cooked different sorts of foods using this car can stove from scrambled eggs to sausages to making coffee and tea. This is a very versatile stove and it really doesn't get simpler than stove.

Wider can will be more stable AND you can add more holes for burners.
It will still hold about the same amount of alcohol, maybe more.
About windscreen - get a tall can wider than the cat or tuna can you are using.
Remove the top and bottom, then cut straight up from bottom to top.
    Be careful of sharp edges.
Bend open the large can wider than the container you are cooking with (cup, pot, skillet),
Place the stove inside the tall can, light, and it will block most of the wind.
For daytime use of the stove, put in a pinch of salt. It will turn the flame orange.

To keep the fuel from spilling out easily, can you use cotton balls inside the can to soak up the alcohol???

How long will it burn with one oz of fuel?

Instead of a pot use 1/4 inch steel plate and weld fins to the top. Use in place of a pot and you now have radiant heat.

Could you possibly explain this a bit more, sorry I am slow but i really want to learn from your wisdom.
So will you be using the cat can as the stove and then the steel plate as a pot ? I am having hard time imagining this.
How will the fins look ?
And what will be the use for the radiant heat?

@@MrGrace123get a 4 or 5 inch square piece of steel 1/4 inch thick. Add more strips of 1/4 inch steel standing up to make fins. This will create more surface area and allow air to flow through it, heating the air more efficiently.

If it's tall enough for the holes and fuel. You'll need to have a wider pot on top of it too.
