Since apple silicon has a lot of ARM infrastructure built in its very easy to port emulators that basically require less interpretation since most handhelds ran on ARM
i got my M1 manly for gaming a year ago because I was so confident in the community. i glad I was right. right of the bad there was so little stuff available.
I'm amazed how well the emulators run on the m1 max. I just finished games that 5 years ago on a $3000 alienware gaming laptop just couldn't keep up. Not only did I play them, but in 4k! I still max out the the m1 max some times, but even the heavy graphics games still work.
Building a gaming community on Mac through community efforts is very important and it adds a lot of value to the platform. While I don’t see Mac catching up to Windows any time soon those emulators are a big part of it.
Switch emulator is a godsent, (just the recompiler thing that has a workaround anyways) we do have RE Village as a native app also, if you own no consoles and only a mac is a pretty good game running really smoothly on my base mac mini

This emulator plus CRT shaders makes the best PS1 experience I ever have since... PS1 experience :D It's actually better because PS1 have that wobbly graphics and I can't emulate CRT look of my 90s tv. DuckStation is a stunning software.
I tried to play on this emulator in Xenogears, on vulcan the game crashes at certain moments... it doesn't crash on OpenGL, but at certain moments graphic bugs appear, for example purple stripes on the entire screen, some glitches....
@@aceDevastator Yes, it turned out to be stable to configure. I decided not to use Vulkan and turned on OpenGL. So that there are no graphic artifacts on OpenGL, I have enabled the checkboxes in the Enchancements tab: - True Color Rendering - Software Renderer Readbacks
I love duckstation but it really depends where you use it (much older android flagships run it fine for a bit then start having dips so you need more so a flagship android from the past 3-4 years to get complete smoothness this is probably cause duckstation is very accurate) but I think beetle core ps1/mednafen is supposed to still be the king of ps1 accuracy
Would be nice if someone mad an all in one app with all these emulators in it. Line openemu or retro arch are. I like a less cluttered applications folder 👍
It definitely is. Switch emulation. Has a library as extensive and diverse as the PS2. And the first time ever perhaps , the emulator and next generation remakes/ releases will coincide together.

I'm struggling... I have a MacBook Air 2017... I downloaded DuckStation... a PSX.zip... ps1-bios.zip... I can't seem to get much further. I went to some sites like Vimm and others... all downloaded files are '.7z or .rar... one file was a zip that opened up as a .bin file but it said 'FAILED TO BOOT SYSTEM' No BIOS image was found for NTSC-U region. Can someone help this poor soul gain the ability to relive the greatest years of his life... playing MGS Skullmonkeys Silent Hill Crash Tekken Fear Effect ect.???
This is great, I know by a long shot texture replacement is still to be determined with ps1 but with this M1 feature, is it’s possible it can do it? I’ve seen some on RUclips used replaced textures on duckstation while using Vulkan yet they were on windows..
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I get strange pop-up alerts in the centre of the display.. Weird letters, lots of "a"'s in a row. (Yes, I'm using keyboard until I can source a decent joypad) :) Appreciate any help to deactive these strange display pop-ups. Thx

Depends on the game. Most games were locked to 20 or 30fps and raising it would just cause it to speed up. Remember in this era it was common to tie a lot of game logic to frame rate.
Have anyone experienced any issues with DualShock 4 (PS4) controllers in the past using the native macOS Steam Client? My problem is that once i want to Disconnect my Controller in the Systems settings, it also closes/crashes the Steam Client as well. Was wondering if this is a widespread issue, or may have something to do due to the fact that Steam runs under Rosetta on Apple Silicon Macs.
A combination of the numerous people who now own an apple silicon Mac as well as some of those who work on Mac working on these emulators. Many of these emulators are open source so some have taken it on them to port the emulator to Apple silicon.
yeah but its a shame that generation of games (same with n64) had such terrible textures. it's really unplayable, those systems have no aged well. i honestly cant believe we ever paid money to play those games. lol

Tried so many emulators on my 2018 macbook pro but all of them crash when I start a game. All I want is to play Silent Hill, this is so frustrating!

Ps4 controller on my Mac is probably the best experience with a Ps4 controller besides on a Ps4. Only iOS and iPadOS match it. Windows totally sucks.

CVGS on MacOS9 is the best way! ^ iMac or eMac and their great CRTs.
If a CRT is what you want, you can use a USB-C to VGA adapter.
