When I was describing Level 3, I said there are currently no Level 2 cars available today, I meant Level 3 cars and I meant commercially available. Clearly Google, Uber, and others are testing Level 3 and above cars.
I'm probably not the first to have though of this : GPS data will contain a autonomous level classification for each road. The car will know and only take a route that is Level 4 compatible. Thoughts ? Also I suspect cars will be networked. Cars ahead will communicate to cars behind them of up coming hazards.
Carpenter Family very good point. I wonder if there will be one authoritative database of road data like this. Car-to-car communications will add a lot to the situational awareness.
So when do you think Level 5 will be available to the public? I believe Ford is planning to have level 4 out in 2021, and Tesla may do it sooner. But the way the guy was talking about it, it seems like it won't be in the 2020s?
Bill I see telsa releasing more and more cool features slowly, the next ones are auto lane changing on highways, better auto exit ramp control, better auto parking features, better summoning features with the ability to just get out of your car at a store or restaurant and your car will park itself and pick u up when you want to leave. We should probably see level 3 and/or 4 next year by Tesla, but the problem will be if any legal regulations get in the way, however Tesla seems to just want to push forward and let the regs catch up!
cbcdesign001 must have been a technical group, 0 means no automation subsystems, 1 mean one automation subsystem, 2 means 2 automation subsystems, etc.
Primthos I've purchased the Tesla self driving option for $3000 which is on top of the autopilot option for $5000. All Tesla l ready have the necessary hardware (HW2) needed. The self driving software upgrade is not available yet probably due to both it not being ready and no clear regulatory rules. I've heard Elon state that he feels regulators might require companies to prove their self driving system is 5 times better than humans.
Nick's Tesla Life Wow. Bummer. Shouldn't be impossible to prove because they are a lot better than humans. Selfdriving wont fall asleep, drink and drive, drive high or get road rage. Plus they are aware of spots humans can't see and they never get tired. Hope they are able to push L3 relatively soon.
My guess is that it will come out slowly by simply enhancing Autopilot. For example, it would be cool if they could recognize red lights in AP on a divided highway with stop lights and bring the car to a stop when there is no car in front of you. Or if your stopped at a red light with AP on, and you turn on your blinker, it would be cool if it could make the turn for you. Since it would still be AP features, not self-driving feature, the driver would still need to be in control at all times.
Tesla doesn't really say that, but I can see how people can think it from their descriptions and video on their web page and that you can actually order "Full Self Driving Capability" it today on the order page! Tesla's "Autopilot" option is Level 2 and Tesla's "Self-Driving" option is level 3 or 4, however you can order the self-driving option today, but it is not shipping yet. The fine print on these pages is listed below and this basically means they have this close to working in their labs, but for various reasons they can't tell us when it will be available. My best guess is that it will roll out really slowly through out 2018. >>>> TESLA FINE PRINT: Please note that Self-Driving functionality is dependent upon extensive software validation and regulatory approval, which may vary widely by jurisdiction. It is not possible to know exactly when each element of the functionality described above will be available, as this is highly dependent on local regulatory approval.
Audi's Traffic Jam Pilot or Audi AI is a limited level 3 system for just highway traffic jams when traveling less than 37 mph, but for that limited use it is level 3. That was released after I made this video. Tesla's Autopilot does very well in traffic jams, but 1) still requires you to have your hands one the wheel, but the warnings less frequent when your driving slow; 2) doesn't have all the restrictions of traffic jam, speed and highway.

Nick's Life. The new Audi A8 has level 4.
This msg is 8 month old, any progress?

Carpenter Family I can't wait to see all of these technologies come to life over the next 5 or so years.
I love your video but could you upload it with better resolution XD
Sorry, don't have it in a higher res.
I agree
i'll wait for level 6 lol

Bill. The new Audi A8 2018 has level 4 already.
If we are going to have an automation scale why start it at zero, no automation? Start it at 1.

Doesn't Tesla have a lvl3 capability that you can buy but it isnt activated due to laws?

i dont get it, tesla says model s and x are full autonomous apparently but its stage 2, hmm

@@TeslaLife ok thanks
Those days I refer to as ride sharing are not such. They are nothing more than an illegal Taxi
circusboy90210 it does appear that taxi drivers may not have much of a future.
The audio in this video is quite poor.
Yeh..............
I had more problems with the video myself not that I wish to be critical.
so he telling us that we might have level 5 by 2050 LOL
That sentences in that "narrative-definition" column just doesn't read right.
Oi listen I wanna drive me golf r jog on with the auto drive cars
A ba ba ba ba ba ba
Audi is level 3 I think

Why don't they try to develop a self driving bicycle? It would be just as successful!
Interesting, that may be next
Because with a bicycle your body weight is what controls your turning.. so that's a no.
But people with no practical knowledge or experience think anything is possible which it isn't!
this is for you my friend! ruclips.net/video/LSZPNwZex9s/видео.html
Gaa! somebody else thought of it first.
Video quality is rubbish
