Ran into the limp mode on our 08 Explorer years ago. Replaced actuator on TB, cleaned the TB, Replaced sensors, replaced electric gas pedal. Nothing helped. Even with trouble codes. Finally discovered about 12 inchs from TB connector after pulling g off some of the loom and tape. Someone before us has skint each wire back a little. For whatever reason. Then taped them back up and retaped the loom. Well the tape apparent got hot and came loose. The skint spots shorted on each other and sent in the limp mode. I repaired the skint wires. Cleared codes. No more issues.
Thank you Will. Good job. I appreciate your videos. If you have time a close up tutorial on your Micsig scope would be awesome. Have a blessed and safe week.
Thanks Will and Tammy. Not the ideal place to work on a car...but at least it seems the people were friendly and no one hassled you. Looking forward to part 2!
Nice one Will. Lucky you were travelling with some equipment. It really does need to act up again to be able to make that 100% call but I think getting the used TB was the right move. Now that I've said that it will be pin fitment lol.
Kirk Abrahamson thank you!! I’m hoping to capture it tomorrow... starting to get worse .. we made it there and home safe... yesterday in town it happened again
Awesome video. Great to see all the oe equipment on hand to get some more data. Bet they loved the show they received free while you performed some diag
Robinson's Auto Diagnostics thank you:) im glad I decided to bring all the tools and everyone along on this adventure.. it has been a awesome experience for me
It's Wal-Mart...Seeing something out of the ordinary is normal. 🤣 I believe you were on the right track being heat related..As soon as I heard it start buzzing I said "oop, It just cooled off" 😃 I'm waiting to see if you stuck along the roadside changing a throttle body or at least Ice packing that old one in part 2 Hope you were able to captured that waveform too. Cheers
I have the same car, having the same issue, watched your video, went outside and hit the TB a little. Car started right up and was able to drive it home, will order me a replacement part asap. Thanks for making the video. Any suggestions on AWD malfunction alert?
in the shop, heat the thing with heat gun while it's hot and running, if it's going to act up from heat, that should trigger it. alternately shock cool it with inverted cans of "air duster" while it's acting up, or liquid co2/nitrogen.
I think it's a messed throttle body. Wouldn't be the first one i have seen. I don't know if it's been done but i believe there was a recall on those. Keep us posted.
wysetech2000 in believe so as well.. he made it back home with no issues then this morning the ghost came back lol hopefully a follow will be captured tomorrow
If you would of disconnected the POS cable computer would of reset I own that exact auto worked every time it's the MAF IS PLUGED OR FAULTY took mine out and cleaned worked and off I went
Excellent diagnostic video. I'm having issues on a 2006 but they're intermittent and coming from the transmission. It'll work absolutely perfect one day and then up come the codes, (P0701), and not want to move. Just clear the codes, disconnect the battery, clean it up and put it back together, and it runs perfect. What's up with that???🙄
Your wife is awesome!!! If that was me I would have to bleep the F words out every 2 seconds, and to have her record a video on top of that, mine would tell me to shove that camera up my ass! She would also be screaming "You had to take this piece of sh*t car? you couldn't give me a ride in a car that isn't broke"? LOL Great video!!
What about an ohmmeter and measure throttle body motor? Yes, cooling would decrease resistance, but if its done fast enough while hot, it gives at least some ideas. Instead of oscilloscope and all that ... So maybe winding insulation failure or internal connection or carbon brushes just gone.
liviu2004 I like this thought 👍 it’s acting up again and with hopes will bring in the shop this afternoon and catch it:) I will perform this test for you as well
That's an odd site in front of Walmart. Usually when hoods are opened the owner is dumping fluids into thier car that's on its last legs . Your busting out the scan tool and the ids and a scope . Not accustomed to seeing high level diagnosis on these grounds
Steven Tenney 😂😂💪🕺 was a good experience lol felt out of my element for sure.. had some nice people ask if I needed help wasn’t all bad 👍 always an Adventure
All I hear is the CFT30 input shaft bearing grinding away every time you start it. I had a Freestyle, everything was great, except the transmission. I only had to keep the throttle body clean, I never had to replace it.
I have a hydraulic pressure unit issue its giving me the p0942 code it still drives but it wont drive for long. I get the helicopter noise in park and neutral but its all good in drive.
Ain't that something, Will!! How many times have I been stranded on the side of the road, and said to myself, "THIS NEVER HAPPENS WHEN IM CLOSE TO A PLACE THAT SELLS WHAT I NEED"? Walmart for oil, trans fluid, coolant, gear lube, washer fluid, tires, batteries, a whiffle ball bat, plastic bowling pins, my little pony accessories, a crock pot, a steam iron, fast food, a bathroom break, viruses and bacteria, old fat women dressed in tights with their midriff showing, almost anything. And, boom!! You answer my question! And you break down in a Walmart, with the one and only thing that Walmart can't fix or supply. Darn your luck!! Don't make any drastic decisions, or financial changes, right now!! I mean, first your razor breaks down, then your vehicle!! I believe I'd put on a helmet, grab a fire extinguisher and a sandwich, stay away from cracks in the sidewalk and black cats, and lock all the doors, and wait it out!! I'll put my underwear outside my pants, have an "S" tattooed on my chest, grab my favorite cape, and come save ya! P.S. No pics of the fat guy in tights, when I get there!!
Wow, a real-world problem. Guess your just like myself. I basically travel with every tool I own in the car. Sometimes even known high failure parts. you just never know. Good video Will and Happy New Year I guess. don't want to jinx you.👍
FORD = Found Outside Retailer Dead :D I must be learning something...as soon as I saw the throttle not responding on the scan tool I'm thinking to myself "go whack the throttle body with something", and sure enough you did. Those electronic throttle bodies are annoying...had one fail on my own car, not cheap to replace. What was so wrong with a throttle cable that they had to computerize the throttle system?
Hey i see you have the Hantek cc65 current clamp too.. Are you able to get that thing to be accurate enough under 1amp to reliably use it for current draw testing and if so whats your trick? It works good for me for most tests but its usually a few hundred ma off if i try to use it for current draw testing on vehicles that have a small enough batt cable.
willi have a question 99 blazer 4x4 muffler flange to converter flange its like 3 studs tht look like wheel studs what is the best way to remove those and put nuts and bolts your s 10 is the same i think
Jose Ramirez I will be doing a video on this soon 👍 this a a great grab and go scope.. might not be the best however will do near anything you will encounter.. there isn’t many presets therefore it takes more in-depth learning to use.. in which I think is great.. I’m using a micsig
Hello brother, I made a purchase scope as well as the one you have of 2 channels and I would like very much if you would make a video about the scope and how to use it. Thank's
The freestyle was a good looking car. I've always liked the way they looked. Unfortunately Ford put a piece of shit cvt transmission in them. They also have other issues.

I'm glad that my Walmart visits are not this eventful! =)
Thomas EXOVCDS lol 😂 was a first for me as well 🕺 check that one off the bucket list.. now I can say I worked at Walmart 🤣🤣🤣
The problem was right in your face! Washer fluid low!🤣🤣
DiagnoseDan...that don't have anything to do with the throttle body!!!
He needs new distributor cap bearings, and a muffler belt!
Pass it needs an oil change😏
@@roadkill5333 🤣🤣😉

DiagnoseDan lol see Dan I knew you would pull through for me
Well at least the weather was good for a change. Thanks Will and Tammy for sharing.
Bill K very true I’m thankful!! Your welcome anytime
Thank you Will. Good job. I appreciate your videos. If you have time a close up tutorial on your Micsig scope would be awesome. Have a blessed and safe week.
Billy Yoder your welcome!! I can do this 👍
Usually if this happens to me it's pouring down rain. Nice video Will. We've all been in situations like this when on a trip somewhere.
Ron Baynes I know that feeling as well lol thankful it wasn’t raining 🌧
Thanks Will and Tammy. Not the ideal place to work on a car...but at least it seems the people were friendly and no one hassled you. Looking forward to part 2!

I got a freestyle 05 SEL that happened to me changed the trotter body and you are good to go

RareDiamond Ching you’re welcome 😉 I’m hoping to capture it today 👍 it’s acting up hope it stays till we get it in
This is where a snapon scan tool with troubleshooter would help out alot. Then use a vantage pro or a vantage ultra to test the component.
Greg J Feeney that will surly get the job done 👍
good job Will and Tammy like that you explained exctly what you were doing what you were testing
Or I stand corrected. You have a pretty good arsenal
Greg J Feeney 💪🕺 constantly investing

I have replaced a lot of those throttle bodies

Jman26063 I do believe so:) I was just outside the park on 209
robinsonsauto Yup right off 84, probably saw you working out there and said to myself "The things you see at walmart"
Hello, saw ur video. I also hv a Ford Freestyle 2005. It displays fail safe engine mode. Iv changed the throttle body and the issue still persists
Sounds like a PS or Alternator growl also? good video!

Will your videos are top notch hope you are well all the best in 2020
being a ford, I auto-assume cracked coating and corroded wire in the middle of nowhere or right at the connector lol...
I’m guessing that the winding is going open in the throttle body motor.
Josh Olson very good assumption I’m hoping to to prove this ;) be nice to catch it in the act
Great video
Greg J Feeney thank you!
Great video...
MIKE CONT thank you
THANKS 🚹 👍 👍, WELL DONE
My fiance car does that while shes driving the wrench comes on and It slows stops going. When she turns it off it goes again then starts back running
07:07 That's why i moved from appartment to house with garage.
Just needed a Bigger hammer lol great video
A BFH would have solved this 😂💪
TPS not reading throttle angle change, throttle is responsive and regulates engine speed on start?
willi have a question 99 blazer 4x4 muffler flange to converter flange its like 3 studs tht look like wheel studs what is the best way to remove those and put nuts and bolts your s 10 is the same i think
Jo O'Daye sometimes they knock out and other times I need to heat around the flange some then knock out
please tell me, how to change keyless for Ford Freestyle.

I'm surprised a Karen didn't show up and complain about you trying to diagnose the car in the parking lot.
